Perfect fit 2005 4runner, Super Impressed!!
Had squealing sound and diagnosed to these stock Toyota tensioner wheels/bearings. Perfect fit, easy to install, may need a torque wrench to hit the 29#'s required. I would strongly recommend replacing all of them, it's very reasonably priced, why not. There are two #2 idler wheels needed (2 of Gates 36173 Automotive Accessories) and one #1 (Gates 36174 Idler Pulley) wheel needed, these are NOT the main belt tensioner assembly but the "helper" wheels. Parts were exact fit for 2005 4runner. Easy all around install! Super Impressed with Gates, never heard of them before but quality seems excellent! Made in Canada, NOT CHINA!!!!! More Gates parts are on their way now, so impressed.

Time, money and knuckle saver!! However, it needs slight mod.
Bought this for my 2008 Toyota Highlander 4WD at 225,000 miles December 2021. For anyone who has a front-wheel-drive based Toyota or Lexus with the 3.5 V6 and needs a new Serpentine belt tensioner because it's making scary noises... THIS is your solution! You will find that the tensioner is an expensive part that requires over $1,000 in labor to take apart many components of the car to get at as it's hidden behind the A/C compressor and - allegedly - requires removal of the friggin radiator. A huge engineering mistake on Toyota's part. Meanwhile someone out there did the research and discovered that this pulley will fit on the tensioner arm to replace the original pulley WITHOUT having to remove the tensioner, saving hundreds of dollars! I just hope this pulley lasts as long as the original. This pulley is the same width and diameter as the original. HOWEVER, the depth of the bearing race mounting surface (from the back rim of the pulley) is slightly different. See in my first pic, at least the way it was sent with the washer on the mount side. The OEM pulley does not have a washer on the mounting face, so I flipped the washer to the other facing side of the pulley (second pic) but the washer made contact with the pulley. So, I mocked up a mount for the washer on my drill press and used a file to grind the washer edge to a smaller diameter. Worked like a charm! This modification allowed my new pulley to work without causing a misalignment with the belt, and I am happy as a pig in mud that I was able to do this project in one day for under $150 in parts (this pulley, an OEM idler pulley and a new belt). WIN!!!

Fits #1 Pulley in Tacoma and Tensioner Pulley on 07 Toyota/Lexus 3.5 V6
The 36174 pulley (AC and Gates) fits the Toyota 4.0 idler next to the AC unit, also named idler #1 in Toyota diagrams. The 36174 pulley also fits in the 3.5 v6 Toyota/Lexus tensioner pulleys. It's a direct fit that I discovered by chance. The other idlers pulleys in the 4.0 engines use the 36173 pulley. The quality appears top notch. It's holding up well as a tensioner pulley in our 07 ES350 with the 3.5 v6.

Started failing within 4 months
I highly recommend that you avoid these parts. Near catastrophic failure after 8 months and around 6k miles. They started making noise around 4 to 5 months in and by the time my mechanics pulled them they were greaseless and metal on metal. Spend the extra money and get a part that will last. These ain't it.

Fit the bottom idler pulley on my 08 tacoma 4.0 perfectly, even came with a new bolt. I thought it was the alternator or the power steering as there was a whining noise coming from under the hood after playing in the mud, replaced the upper and lower idler pulleys and no more noise!

Matched up perfectly for my 2006 tacoma bottom idler. Took 2 minutes to change, truck idles much quieter now.

There’s a rumour that this pulley might fit the tensioner one on FJ Cruiser that cannot be purchased separately. And it is kind of true, but do it on your risk and remove all washers. The problem is that the tensioner is aluminium and if you try to tighten the bolt that is only a few threads in, it would likely spin and ruin the thread. After that you’d have to replace the whole tensioner assembly which is a much harder project. Learned it the hard way. The Gates assembled though features the same pulley with a longer bolt. Still giving it the 4 stars, as it is a pretty good pulley and my application was not up to spec. Providing an option with the longer, left-handed tensioner bolt would make it a 5 star.
