A heavily illustrated classic on the evolution of the handloom. The handloom—often no more than a bundle of sticks and a few lengths of cordage—has been known to almost all cultures for thousands of years. Eric Broudy places the wide variety of handlooms in their historical context. What influenced their development? How did they travel from one geographic area to another? Were they invented independently by different cultures? How have modern cultures improved on ancient weaving skills and methods? Broudy shows how virtually every culture has woven on handlooms. He highlights the incredible technical achievement of early cultures that created magnificent textiles with the crudest of tools and demonstrates that modern technology has done nothing to surpass their skill or inventiveness. Review: Book of Looms - Had a lot of historical content. Used as a resource in art with middle school students. Review: Helpful for anyone doing research on looms and traditional weaving. - This book is a useful reference on the technology of looms and weaving throughout the world... I would recommend it to anyone who needs a compact and well done treatment of the subject.

The loom, a simple tool
The loom is a simple tool designed to hold warp yarns in allignment and under tension such that they can be alternated to allow the weft yarns to pass over and under them to create a fabric. This book shows some of the simplest looms and more complex ones. The ingenuity of man to design these implements is amazing. From a simple ordering of a series of sticks to large elaborate frames built of wood or metal, looms have been designed to simplify the process of weaving for weavers. He shows how remarkably similar looms have been built in different continents around the world.

The Book of Looms History of the Handloom from Anco¥ient Time to the present
This book is very interested in knowing history of looms. But my interest is a little differs from the book. What I really want to study was history of looms and its products, such as quality of cloth, roughness, density of yarn, shrinking, difference of quality between wool and other fibers and so on. But it was rather difficult to know full contents of the book, always as far as buying book on line
