Beautiful, Practical, and Surprisingly Sanity-Saving
I first saw these on TikTok and thought, “Do I really need bougie jars for flour and water?” Turns out — yes, yes I do. I originally bought this set as a thank-you gift for a friend deep in her sourdough era, and she loved them so much that I ended up ordering another set for myself. Now my adult daughter and I are actually enjoying the starter process — and bonding over the adventure of it all. The size is perfect, the glass is sturdy, and the wide mouth makes stirring, feeding, and cleaning so much easier than mason jars. No more crusty threads or sticky starter cement. They look beautiful on the counter, feel solid in hand, and somehow make me feel like a real adult baker instead of a chaotic kitchen goblin. If your sourdough starter has been testing your patience, these jars will absolutely restore a bit of peace (and pride) to the process.

Wonderful for Sourdough Starters
Both the tulip and the straight versions of these Weck jars are absolutely made for sourdough starters. The wide mouth and lack of ridges make it perfect for scraping down the sides of the jar. They are a breeze to clean. The lid can be made airtight by using the rubber gasket and fastening it all with metal clips. It can also be used with just the glass lid, which allows for pressure to escape when fermenting a sourdough starter. There is plenty of room for your starter to grow and be happy in this 1-liter jar. The only drawback is that these jars are a bit pricy on Amazon. If you're able to get them in person, you could definitely get a better deal for your money. Thankfully, mine arrived undamaged after shipping.

Great jar for sourdough!
I really love these Weck tulip jars for sourdough starter. The 1-liter size is perfect for an active starter and gives plenty of room for rise without overflow. The glass is thick, sturdy, and high quality, and I love that it’s clear so I can easily track bubbles and growth. They’re easy to clean and feel very durable, definitely a big upgrade from random jars. Con: The jars are on the heavier side, especially once filled, so they’re not ideal if you plan to move them around often or store them on a high shelf. Overall, a great investment for anyone serious about sourdough. I’d definitely buy them again.

My Sourdough Starter Just Moved into a Fancy Condo (and It's Thriving!)
Alright, fellow sourdough parents and anyone who appreciates beautiful glass containers, let me tell you about my recent upgrade: the Weck Tulip Jars (1 Liter, set of 4). For a while, my sourdough starter, lovingly named "Bubbles," lived in a less-than-glamorous repurposed jar. It was functional, sure, but it lacked... panache. Bubbles deserved better. I deserved a more aesthetically pleasing fermentation station. I saw these Weck jars online and was immediately smitten. The tulip shape is adorable, the glass looks thick and sturdy, and those little glass lids with the rubber seals and metal clips? So classic! They look like they belong in a European pantry straight out of a fairytale. My plastic containers felt a pang of jealousy. When these arrived, they felt just as good as they looked. Solid, heavy glass. The wide mouth is fantastic for feeding Bubbles (less mess!) and for cleaning (my whole hand actually fits inside!). The separate lid, rubber gasket, and clips are easy to assemble and provide a satisfyingly airtight seal. It's like giving your contents a little glass vault. Bubbles took to its new home immediately. It seems happier, more active, and frankly, more sophisticated. The clear glass lets me easily monitor its bubbling progress, which is both fascinating and slightly hypnotic. I've also used these jars for storing other things – leftover soup, overnight oats, even just displaying colorful dried beans. They make everything look instantly more organized and charming. It's like my pantry got a mini-makeover. The versatility is a huge plus. Canning, storage, fermentation, or just looking pretty on a shelf – these jars can do it all. They're dishwasher safe (hallelujah!), and the thick glass makes them feel incredibly durable. I feel confident that these will be housing future generations of sourdough starters (and maybe even some actual canned goods, if I ever get that ambitious). If you're a sourdough enthusiast, appreciate high-quality glass containers, or just want to bring a touch of classic European charm and organization to your kitchen, these Weck Tulip Jars are a fantastic choice. They're beautiful, practical, and have made my fermentation station (and my pantry) significantly more delightful. I'm thoroughly impressed with these charming jars.

Great for sourdough starter
I bought this set of two Weck jars to use for my sourdough starter. Each week, I take out 50-75 grams of starter to feed in one jar, marked with a green rubberband to indicate the starting level, and use for my next loaf of bread. I put the discard in the other jar (with a purple rubber band around it to mark the level) to use in biscuits, waffles, English muffins, etc throughout the week. It’s a great system to keep my sourdough well-fed and maintained. The jars have nice, wide mouths, which makes it easy to get the starter in and out. They’re thick, sturdy glass that won’t break if you bump them into something or tap a spoon against the edge. I use the glass lid and rubber gasket without the clips, so the gasses released by my starter don’t build up pressure inside the jar. It is exactly what I needed, and I’m glad I went with this option, rather than some of the plastic options I saw labeled as sourdough starter jars. Both jars (my active and my discard) live on the top shelf in my refrigerator, since I usually don’t bake bread more than once a week, and don’t want to have to feed/discard every day. I usually feed Friday evening and leave the active jar out overnight to double, then bake with it on Saturday.

Glad I bought them
INFLUENCED. I saw someone making overnight oats with these on social media. They just seemed aesthetically pleasing so I gave them a try. It sounds so silly to say that but influencers do suck me with their beautifully organized kitchen and fridges. I will say I love these for storage! I use it both with the rubber and clips and without. Airtight seal with the rubber and clips. Glass is good quality and holds up well in dishwasher. Saves room in my fridge so I will be buying more in different sizes and tossing some of my other bulky containers.

Excellent Sourdough Starter Jar
These are the best sourdough starter jars I’ve purchased. They have a nice, thick weight to them which makes them perfect for long term use. They scrape down easily after mixing and wash really well.

Disappointed
