It really works!
I am skeptical of any tool that claims to magically improves technique or performance. It's my conviction that nothing can substitute for hardwork and persistence. Well, my opinion about the need for hard work hasn't changed. But this device can certainly help speed the process up for learning topspin. My daughter's topspin has tremendously improved. So much so that in her group class her topspin technique is now a model for the other kids to follow, some of whom have a couple of years of practice over her.It's made of a long (extendable) aluminum handle attached to something that looks like a paint roller, except that the roller cover has been replaced by a foam-filled ball. The "paint roller" handle is made of plastic.So, why 4 stars instead of 5? Well, the paint roller handle broke after a month of use. I wrote to the company (Oncourt Offcourt) and they sent me a free replacement Spin Doctor, shipping included! The new one is standing up to good use.
