Another yummy book
I have a few of Geoff Well's books and they never fail to delight. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious. Definitely will be trying my hand at mince this year. It's also the easiest guide I've read for fruit cake. Much less intimidating than other recipe books.

Not for those who DON'T want to use prepackaged items.
In his introductory remarks, the author disparages using prepackaged items, stating that fresh is best. I agree. However, in his trifle recipe, he advocates using packages of ladyfingers, frozen fruit, and a can of fruit cocktail. He says not, under any circumstances to use prepackaged pudding mixes, as we have in the U.S., but you can use a pre-packaged custard powder. Worst of all, he states that when preparing this dish without alcohol, use freshly squeezed lemon juice (which is fine,) or using the prepackaged lemon juice from the store!!!! Really? That stuff is good for one thing only...putting on baking powder for a cleansing product. He then gives a recipe for homemade custard, but at then end actually says to use food coloring in it, to make it look more appetizing. In an aside, the word "it's" is used as a posessive. "It's" is a contraction for "it is." The appropriate spelling for the possessive is, " its. " This is only one example of the lack of good editing in this book.

Not much new or for the holidays
Except for the roasting the turkey information all the other recipes and information is in the previous books. Not sure how authentic they are for an English Christmas.
