It holds a stick of butter, just like it promises.

This works pretty good, but I recommend keeping the butter very cold/frozen, or it's a pain in the neck to get it out of this container. I wanted one for our Irish butter that comes in a 2# stick that I have to cut in half to fit into our butter dish. So the other stick needed a home, which this does do. It's just such a tight fit, getting it out if it is warm is quite a bother. Other than that, it does what you expect it to do.

Do not buy this thing. No way it comes even close to holding a stick of butter. It is way too narrow! It's made in China, that's why. They think small....

This is my second one. The first one I have had for at least 10 years or more . I bought this new one because I started using sticks of real butter and needed a place to store it. It has held up great! I keep the butter in the paper and just drop it out when I need it. I have never put it in without the paper wrapper and don't know if it would come out as easily. It keeps my butter and margarine fresh.I rarely need to wash it, but when I do, I just open it and throw it in the top rack of the dishwasher.

My mom had gotten a single stick butter holder like this for me many years ago and last year it broke. I was still using the cracked and broken one to store my butter sticks in because my husband doesn’t like butter so this item keeps it contained great. I started searching for a replacement this year and the only place that I could find it was here on Amazon. It was a bit pricey for a small piece of plastic so I hesitated making the purchase. Now I have it and it perfectly replaces my old broken one. The butter stick fits in perfectly and it is easy to open and close.

great when you don't need a whole stick

I was pleased to find this again. Great for storing a whole or partial stick of butter or margarine. I keep the wrapper on which is the neatest way to use it, IMO. With care it should last for years, although the hinges are the weak spot. Still functional even if they break.
