Question 1

Is there a little triangle at the bottom of the container indicating #2 or #5 plastic? I think only #2 and #5 are both food safe and safe for reuse.

Great question! This designation is about how the product should be recycled, not its food safety. Please be assured that our product is both FDA approved and BPA free, having been independently tested and verified as such.

The recycling symbol #7 indicates the material does not fall into the other categories #1-#6, and as such, is not necessarily a material that is accepted by most curbside recycling programs. The #7 recycling symbol signifies other plastics, such as, Acrylic, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Nylon, Polycarbonate (PC), or the bioplastic Polylactic Acid (PLA).

I just want to thank you for your question, you saved me from buying this product: "Number 7 plastics are used to make baby bottles, sippy cups, water cooler bottles and car parts. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastic food containers often marked on the bottom with the letters “PC” by the recycling label #7. Some polycarbonate water bottles are marketed as ‘non-leaching’ for minimizing plastic taste or odor, however there is still a possibility that trace amounts of BPA will migrate from these containers, particularly if used to heat liquids.A new generation of compostable plastics, made from bio-based polymers like corn starch, is being developed to replace polycarbonates. These are also included in category #7, which can be confusing to the consumer. These compostable plastics have the initials “PLA” on the bottom near the recycling symbol. Some may also say “Compostable.”#7 plastics are not for reuse, unless they have the PLA compostable coding. When possible it is best to avoid #7 plastics, especially for children’s food. Plastics with the recycling labels #1, #2 and #4 on the bottom are safer choices and do not contain BPA. PLA coded plastics should be thrown in the compost and not the recycle bin since PLA compostable plastics are not recyclable." Although it says BPA free, I don't trust it.

Question 4

The silicone seal keeps falling off of the lid.  Is there something I'm doing wrong or a way to fix this?

My relative, who works in manufacturing of similar items, has told me that the airtight silicone seals are meant to stay in place. Apparently, higher temperatures can affect the effectiveness, and the silicone ring may start falling out of place. I would contact the manufacturer to see if they will send you a replacement, might be easier than returning to a merchant, especially if it has been some time. http://progressiveintl.com/contact
