The hammer I received had a polished face. I returned it and found a 16 oz. milled face hammer at Lowe's.

Journeyman commercial/industrial electrician review: To say I'm EXTREMELY picky about my tools is an understatement. I am the most picky about: #1-linemans, #2-hammers. I must have a hatchet handle, and I refuse to own an all-steel hammer. Tool bag is heavy enough. I had the wood version of this for several years and loved it likeit was my child, but it ended up left in a ceiling on a job I couldn't get it back from.I wasn't thrilled about it being discontinued, but this hammer is a fine replacement. Lightweight handle, balanced just like I'm used to.My only complaint (with minor backstory): I CAN NOT STAND the sound hammers make in a hammer loop on a tool belt, so I always jam it in my tool belt, sideways, in the back. This hammer has a really grippy handle and doesn't slide out as easily as a wood handle. But, alas, it seems nobody makes wood hatchet-handled 16oz smooth face decently forged claw hammers anymore. I loved the wood, this one is almost as awesome, and if I'd never had the DO16C this would be the best hammer I've ever had.

The grip feels and looks a little cheaper than I was expecting, based on the photos. Still, it's ok. Gets the job done.
