Good book on this subject
It is really well written, but only for those who really want to make IT project management this much complicated. I guess project managers dealing with really big IT projects would need this knowledge. For others, it is good to know how an IT project is successfully managed, though for most of the projects which most of the IT professionals deal with on daily basis don't need that much complications. This book quotes a lot of very good real life examples where IT projects fail because of bad management or succeed because of good management.Key point which I learned from this book was that NO IT project completes in time, and all of them take twice the estimated time, so after making a plan for an IT project, give yourself twice the time to complete your project than what you have estimated, otherwise it is destined to fail because it'll not complete on time and in the last minute you'll rush to complete it as soon as possible, and that is where you'll make mistakes.

My first IT PM book but certainly not my last
While working on my degree in Information Systems Management, this book was required reading. Though that was two editions ago, I look back fondly at this book being my first project management related book. Even after getting my PMP, I still think it was very well presented. This 5th edition is no different. Upon reviewing a copy, the author has stayed current and done an excellent job.For those who are just getting their feet wet, I would certainly recommend reading this book and doing the exercises. Even if you don't want to be a project manager, if you use MS Project, this will help you. The author demonstrates project management methodology very well through the practical utilization of a trial copy of MS Project, included with the book.Regards,Derek Huether, PMP

First and best IT PM book
Information Technology Project Management is the first book any technical project manager should read. It does a great job of laying out the challenges and tools of technical PM. It provides practical common sense examples as well as good historical anecdotes. This book has no fluff and no superfluous chapters, it's all meat. Even if you have been doing PM for years, this book has something to offer.Reading and understanding this book cover to cover will get you half way to your PMP certification. You will need to get a PMBOK or a PMP study guide and spend another 2 - 3 months of study. But this book is absolutely the right place to start.
