I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank and the instructions for this item were spot on.
I love the product. I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank and the instructions for this item were spot on. Works as advertised. I used the "B" setup with both sensors in my tank and the hose from my pump and reservoir slightly above the fish tank. I have a sensor height differential of about 3-1/2" and when the sensor #2 detected low level the pump started and when water reached float top sensor #1 the pump shut off immediately. Total of about 10 gallons. I have a 35 gallon reservoir that I bought here on Amazon and a transfer pump 120 volt, 2.0 amp, 350 gallons/hr. This setup topped off the tank in about 3 minutes.Remember guys, when you set up the sensors---the shut off will not occur until the float reaches the top--similar to the float in your toilet. So set your floats with room for play.Part 2 of review. Just tested system as water level was down approx 1. Lifted float/sensor #2 until it was clear of water. Pump started OK and pumped until water level reached top of float/sensor #1---instant cut off. I am ready for vacation with peace of mind.Part 3---went on vacation to Reno, NV in April 2016 and returned 9 days later to find tank in perfect condition. My 25 gallon storage tank was down approximately 10 gallons so the system ran twice with no problems. It is now the middle of June 2016 and still no problems--no problems with salt on the sensors as others have complained about--no problems with stuck sensors---no problems period! I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Great for the price, works flawlessly
I did a lot of research on ATOs for many months before making a purchase. I read on forums, read reviews, spoke to hobbyists, and watched videos. Since it is such an integral part of a reef tank, I had to be sure I was getting something reliable and accurate. I have found both of these with this product.IT has an adjustable pump timer, which is great for different sized tanks. It has a safety float so your pump wont run dry.It has an easy to read display. It runs on simple float valves.I keep it in my sump, and my tank has really stabilized since using this product. I look forward to using it with dosing in the future.

Good System, just need to adjust the factory settings first!
I had no Idea why my pump was just shutting off all the darn time. It was annoying and it did not top off my tank. I went to the web sight for the product and found out that it has a factory setting of only around 3 minutes. I had to unscrew the device and adjust the timer inside with a screw driver to 14 minutes to get the thing to work like it was suppose too.Does not take long to do and it now works like it should and it works well. The thing I do not understand is why this instruction was not included in the instruction manual that it came with. Would have saved a lot of hassle if they would have just included the instructions the first time!

Buying another after 5 years!
Seriosly, I’ve had this going for 5 years on a 300 gallon saltwater reef tank, and today the sensor (or something related to that) finally failed. And you know what saved my butt? The 3 minute time out feature! Yep, it did exactly as it was designed to do and stopped a flood by timing out. I do clean he float about every other month and I keep anything floating nearby away from the float as it’s a critical piece of equipment for my tank. I also use this in a sump system with a regular maxi-jet 1200 instead of a lifted pump. And I think if I simply bought a replacement float for this I could get more life, but hey, 5 years? I’m just buying a new one. Thanks JBJ.

Very dangerous ATO. Can flood your house if power is cut and restored to ATO!
My setup is a large tank with an ATO pump that I designed myself that can pump 30 gallons per minute into the tank. I have the entire rig hooked up to my home automation system so that the ATO doesn't activate when I'm home. Why? Because the pump is so loud that it will wake everyone in the entire house up in the middle of the night. Here's where we get to the problem with the ATO. My home automation restores power to the ATO when there is no one home. No matter WHAT the status is of filling level, when power is restored to the ATO, it will turn the pump on for approximately 10 seconds. Sensors can tell the unit that the aquarium is full, but it doesn't matter. The pump ACTIVATES!In 10 seconds, 10 gallons of water is moved into the aquarium. This will flood the house VERY quickly! Be wary! Why, upon power restoration, does this pump DEFAULT to ON for 10 seconds before it reads the sensors? Upon power-up it should be OFF until the sensors give the brain feedback. This makes no sense, is poorly programmed, and is SUPER dangerous!

Last one lasted 3 years. This one works great.
I got one of these when we originally got our saltwater tank 3 years ago. Well the old one kicked the bucket and wouldn't 'trigger' properly so I wanted to plunk down and get a replacement. The unit functions well, dinged a star for only a 6 month warranty with the cost of the unit.I like the included bracket system for the sensors, that we utilized this go round. We were using suction cups before, but when they are just sitting there in the water they get the slime, etc. I'm not a huge fan of EXTRA tank maintenance (so much to do already) so this feature helps.
