I got this as I've had a couple of batteries gradually die due to lack of use - I drive a classic car and as it's only used a couple of times a week, the battery drains over time. I fitted a 12v cigar lighter socket in the grove box and wired it directly to a circuit which stays live with the ignition off. I put a fuse in line, though given the tiny current, it's unlikely to be needed. At first it didn't seem to be having much effect, as although my multimeter showed a good output from the panel, the red LED in the charger seemed to be draining the battery once the sun set. Emboldened by other comments on here, I disassembled the charger socket (it unscrews easily), and simply snipped off the LED which is soldered across the metal prongs of the charger. Reassembled and refitted, it's a five minute job if that. After another day in the sunshine, and another night in the dark, I tried the car again. The battery was fully charged, and the starter motor turned over faster than ever! I now leave the panel plugged in whenever I'm parked up for more than a few hours, and the battery is in a much better condition as a result. It only takes a second to plug and unplug, and fits nicely in the map pocket on the back of the passenger seat. God knows why the charge sapping LED was included - but once removed, this is a great bit of kit.

After two weeks use, I'm very impressed. I'm disabled, only take the car out for one or two short drives a week, and don't have any off road parking or a garage, so can't connect it to a mains trickle charger, and I often had the battery going flat. For the last couple of years I've used another brand of solar trickle charger bought from Amazon, also supposed to be 10W, and it did stop the battery ever going flat, but it was rather shoddily made - the back kept falling off the junction box, and the cigarette socket plug was loose fitting and was disintegrating. This solar trickle charger is MUCH better: the junction box is properly sealed; the cigarette socket plug (on my 1998 car the socket is always live, not just when the ignition is on) fits very positively in the socket; the charging indicator on the junction box only lights up when there's enough light for the panel to work AND the plug is properly connected to the car (my old one just indicated enough light, whether it was plugged in or not). And finally, with the old one I always got a reading of 12.2, 12.3 or very occasionally 12.4V from the 6 month old battery on the voltage display on the bluetooth FM transmitter I plug into the cigarette lighter socket after disconnecting the solar panel before starting the car, whereas with THIS solar panel I've had a reading of 12.8 or 12.9V every time. That's much better, and what it should be for a fully charged battery. THIS solar panel is fully charging the car battery, whereas the old one was only managing to part charge it. Oh yes - there's some real nonsense in these reviews about the red LED always on on the plug when it's connected. That's a 3mm red LED, with a forward voltage of around 2V, which would burn out if the current through it was over 30mA, and with a 2000 kiloOhm resister in series with it, so there'll be an actual current of maybe 6mA and a power consumption of well under a tenth of a Watt. Cutting it out will make no practical difference, just lose the confirmation of whether it's plugged right in. (If it did make a difference you wouldn't have almost every manufacturer of cigarette lighter socket plug powered accessories including one - they'd save on the components and boast in their advertising about not using one.)

I've been using this for a while now, and part of me is a bit sceptical about how well it actually works, but another part of me thinks it's actually doing a reasonable job and I'm expecting too much from it. I got this as I do well under 4000 miles a year, and I have noticed that my stop-start system is very reluctant to work, which I put down to low battery charge. Sometimes I used to get into my car and I would get a "Low battery - Drive car" message, so clearly my car doesn't appreciate being sat around doing nothing. As I have no intention of driving around just to keep the car's battery happy, I bought myself a battery charger, but it's a nuisance to connect and disconnect, so I sought a better solution and came upon this. The panel itself is well-made and surprisingly sturdy, the solar panels being mounted onto a metal plate. I just leave mine on the dashboard when I'm not driving the car, and disconnect it and bung it in the passenger footwell when I am driving. I didn't fancy leaving sucker marks on my windscreen, though that might give the panel a better operating angle. One thing I don't like about this, is that the red LED on the 12v plug lights up at night, so there is clearly a power drain from this device when it's not supplying power to the car from the panel, but it's easy enough to unplug the 12v plug at night, though less convenient that it might be. I think left to its own devices, the panel is a definite net gain on battery voltage, particularly in summer. If you have a battery charge problem to solve, this might not be a complete solution, but it does help. I've not had my "Drive car" message come on for ages, and the stop-start system seems a little more inclined to kick in than it did previously. It's no substitute for a real battery charger, but then it doesn't claim to be. It's alright.

Zuerst: Ich bin kein Elektrotechniker/Mechatroniker und das Panel ist erst seit 3-4 Tagen im Einsatz, daher ist diese Rezension (wie eigentlich jede) mit gewisser Vorsicht zu genießen! 1) Das Panel tut was es soll. Es ersetzt mein gut 15 Jahre altes 1,5Wp Panel, welches damals das 3fache gekostet hat. Platziert ist es in einem Opel Tigra TwinTop, der in 16 Jahren vor allem durch Herumstehen auffällt und daher eine regelmäßige Batteriewartung braucht, vor allem im österreichischen Winter. Seit dem Einbau gab es nur bewölktes Wetter, aber unter Tags steigt die Ladung der Batterie messbar an, es scheint also zu funktionieren. Angeschlossen ist das Panel direkt an der Batterie. Zur Kontrolle hab ich einen Tester mit Display permanent in die Konsole des Autos eingebaut, welches mir die aktuelle Ladung der Batterie anzeigt. Wie gesagt: Nachts merkt man das Abfallen, unter Tags das minimale Ansteigen der Spannung. 2) Anschluss: SAE-Stecker sind Standardstecker, man bekommt sie also auch als Verlängerung, und (wichtig!) mit Sicherung, damit bei einem Fehlstrom nicht das Auto/Boot/.. in Flammen aufgeht. Wer wirklich längere Strecken überbrücken muss sollte ein SAE-Kabel mit dickem Querschnitt verwenden, dann halten sich die Verluste in Grenzen (einige tun hier so, als würde bei 2-3m Verlängerung kein Strom mehr an der Batterie ankommen!? Also wers nicht glauben will kann sich das mit relativ einfachen Formeln aus der Physik/Elektrotechnik ausrechnen: Das geht). 3) "Die LED zieht die Batterie leer" -> Wie soll eine Diode ("die" Diode, nicht "das" ;) ) mit einer Leistung von einigen mA eine Autobatterie leeren? Selbst mein OBD2-Adapter braucht dazu Tage, bei einer betagten Batterie, und der zieht richtig Strom, wenn man vergisst, ihn auszuschalten. Ich denke die Leute, die wegen der LED schimpfen, haben ein ganz anderes Problem: Der Zigarettenanzünder ist nicht am Dauerplus sondern am Zündungsplus angeschlossen. Sprich das Panel kann die Batterie nur laden, wenn der Zündschlüssel steckt und die Zündung an ist. Die Leute lassen das Auto dann wohl in dem Zustand stehen, und, wenn sie zurück kommen, ist die Batterie trotz Sonnenschein leer -> Klar, weil mit der Zündung alles mögliche an Geräten, Lüftern und Beleuchtungen mitlaufen, und die fressen deutlich mehr als das Panel in direkter Sonne liefern kann. Aber klar: Die LED ist Schuld.. 4) "Panel darf im laufenden Motorbetrieb nicht (permanent) angeschlossen bleiben" -> Ich habe das mit dem alten PV-Panel gut 10 Jahre gemacht, keine Probleme. Hier hab ich sicherheitshalber ein 12V Wechselrelais eingebaut: Sobald die Zündung 12V auf das Relais gibt zieht es das PV-Panel von der Batterie weg. Hilfts nix, schads nix. Praktisch: Da mein Batterietester zwischen Relais und Panel geschalten ist und damit durch die Zündung den Kontakt zur Batterie verliert kann ich somit im Fahrbetrieb sehen, ob das PV-Panel im "Leerlauf" die ca 21V schafft, also einwandfrei funktioniert. Was mir nicht so gefällt: Leider ist das Panel in einem Kunstgewebe eingebettet, und nicht in einem Hardcover, so wie mein altes PV-Panel. Da das Teil mit aufgeklebten Magnethaltern auf der Armatur hinter der Windschutzscheibe gehalten wird und die wirklich stark sind zieht sich beim Abnehmen der Stoff wie ein Kaugummi. Zum Glück musste ich es bisher nur zur Reinigungszwecken wegnehmen, somit sollte das kein großes Problem sein. Würde ich aber noch einmal eines kaufen würde ich aufpassen ein Panel in einer festen Kunststoffhülle zu bekommen.

Voglio precisare che non è un caricatore, se la batteria e scarica o danneggiata e non mantiene la carica questo pannello non la resuscita. Serve per mantenere una batteria già carica chiaro il concetto. Pannello fatto bene e ben curato con due tipi di attacchi: accendisigari e pinze per poli di batteria. Naturalmente deve essere collegato alla spina accendisigari accertandosi che la luce del display si accenda.

J'ai choisi ce panneaux solaire pour assurer le maintien en charge de la batterie 12V d'une alarme infra-rouge qui n'est pas reliée au courant secteur et qui contrôle l'accès à ma piscine. Je n'y croyais pas trop, car on est souvent un peu déçu par la puissance réelle des panneaux solaires. Eh bien ce panneau, en plein soleil, parvient à fournir une tension jusqu'à 18 volts (sous un très faible ampérage évidemment). Mais dans la pratique, il maintient sans aucun problème une batterie au plomb/gel à peine charge, même sous un ciel nuageux, tant que la consommation électrique reste faible ou occasionnelle. C'est donc parfait pour une alarme. Il n'y a pas besoin d'installer un régulateur de charge entre le panneau et la batterie, car le panneau comporte une diode anti-retour qui évite à la batterie de se décharger pendant la nuit par retour du courant vers le panneau solaire. Je l'ai vérifié, ça fonctionne parfaitement. Les 4 ventouses qui équipent le panneau permettent de le fixer sur une surface très lisse, comme un pare-brise ou une vitre, sinon on peut le fixer avec des attaches rapides prises dans les oeillets de fixation des ventouses, ou grâce à la sangle élastique large au dos du panneau. Le panneau est fourni avec un câble pour branchement dans une prise allume-cigare et un second câble muni de pinces crocodiles. Le fabricant affirme que le panneau est étanche, mais je n'ai pas encore pu vérifier ce point... important. Pour tout le reste, ca correspond parfaitement à mes besoins. Ce panneau n'est pas un chargeur et ne rechargera pas une batterie de voiture complètement HS. Mais pour ce qui est de maintenir la charge, il fait parfaitement le job !
