These ear buds may have saved my marriage!
I can finally sleep in the same room as my husband! After 11 years of trying everything short of surgery on him and using all kinds of ear plugs for myself, we are finally both sleeping well next to each other. I used to use silicone ear plugs plus a really loud noise machine and his snoring would still keep me up. The sound quality is amazing, it instantly soothes me and is far better than the white noise app I had on my phone. The buds never fall out, though I sometimes take one out in my sleep and I wake up with it in my hand. Of course there are a few cons: my ears get a little bit sweaty, but not nearly as bad as with earplugs; they cause a tiny bit of soreness, especially the first few nights or if you use a stiff pillow. The price would seem like a con, but the quality is just that good. The charging case uses magnets to perfectly align the buds on the charging dock, ensures they never get lost, and uses lights to indicate the buds are actually charging, so if they are misaligned you know; plus the case holds a charge for an extra night or two for camping, etc., when you can’t plug it in. You might think it would be a disadvantage that you can’t listen to music on them, but that prevents you from getting annoying alerts through the buds. I’ve never once had any sounds other than white noise come through. They come with three slices of soft silicone fittings that easily slip around the hard inner mechanism, so they should fit any ear. My only complaint is that the hard piece could be thinner—it sticks out of my ear a bit, causing a little bit of discomfort when side sleeping, though I’ve gotten pretty used to it. Other than that, these tiny buds may have saved my marriage! Update: After months of use, I still love them and recommend them to everyone. All the complaints I’ve read seem to not be thought out—they want something that would actually hinder good sleep. Not sure what all the complaining is about with having to charge them every day in the case and take it with you for a weekend trip—is there really anything that small that holds a charge more than a day? And why would you travel without the case, you’d lose them so fast! I love the sleek little case and the fact that I don’t have to bring a plug with it for a quick getaway or campout since it holds 3 days of charge. Yes, they hurt a tiny bit and they do cause warmth and sweating in the ears, but a LOT less so than silicone or foam earplugs. If it did have the absolute noise canceling capability people want, but it would be way more hot and sweaty, plus you want to be able to hear really loud ambient noise, such as a screaming baby (I sometimes have those at my house.)Those complaining about the limited sounds don’t realize you can download dozens of new sounds any time. I downloaded a rain shower that wasn’t on there originally and it’s the only one I use. Not sure why you’d need to swipe through sounds or control noise on the earpiece itself since you simply set it and go to sleep. If you could control with the earpiece, it would have a lot of accidental changes as you’d roll around at night—or at least I would. The only time I have to change the settings at night is when I need to adjust the alarm, which you wouldn’t be able to do on a controllable earpiece anyway. Bose has really thought out these little things. The only thing I would hope they change is the size—make it a little more flush with the ear and squishy around the ear hole.

I'm doing my HAPPY DANCE! Sleepbuds are back!
I purchased the original Sleepbuds when they came out to try to help me deal with my wife's snoring which can be horrible. She says mine is bad too but I don't hear that so it doesn't keep me awake. :) The original Sleepbuds were great. They were tiny, battery life was all night and then some unlike my Airpods, and they are pretty comfortable. Like the Airpods, it was pretty easy to forget they are in after a minute or two. Unfortunately, the original Sleepbuds also had a major problem. After a couple months, the batteries started acting wonky. They would charge, then one wouldn't charge, they often had trouble connecting. It turns out that the new battery technology they used wasn't working out. Bose recalled the whole batch and refunded the money of those that purchased them, in full. I was happy to get the money back but very sad to lose the Sleepbuds. In the time since, I've used my Airpods on the really bad nights but I can't lay on my side and the battery life isn't enough to get through the night. They even make an annoying sound that wakes you up right before the battery dies. Then I purchased a set of Jabra 75t that promised 7 hours of battery life (not quite, more like 5 hours). They were a little better at blocking noise but at the end of the battery life they screamed "Low Battery. Low Battery" at me. While the Airpods were comfortable (but not very good at blocking sound), the Jabras were not as comfortable, sometimes causing me ear pain where they rubbed. Some nights I would use the Jabras and when they died I would switch to the Airpods. Not ideal. I've looked at some of the other options out there but none of them appealed to me. That's why I'm so happy the Sleepbuds are back. Bose has changed to good old, reliable NiMh battery technology. I'm not sure why they didn't go Li-Ion but I'm sure they had reasons. The new Sleepbuds II actually seem smaller than the originals but maybe that's because I'm used to the much larger (though still pretty small) Jabra earbuds. They don't stick out of my ears at all so laying on my side is no problem. I've only used them one night but assuming they have the battery problem worked out, it will be so great to have them back. I slept for 8 hours last night and the battery charge still showed at 40%. They are very comfortable. I find the selection of sounds more than adequate. I just need a noise masking sound. I like the Brown Static since it helps block the low sounds of snoring better than some of the more "bright" sounds. These are really expensive. And the charging case is too big. I'm not sure why it can't be Airpod or Jabra case sized. That would make them easier to travel with. But they work, at least for me. Let's just hope we don't have battery problems again... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: Two+ months in. I'm still loving these. I'm sleeping SO good. I use them every night and in the 2+ months I have had them, the right one has fallen out twice, probably because I didn't get it put in quite right. A few nights ago I had some pain in the right ear, probably because I didn't get it put in quite right :). Most of the time, once they get settled in after a few minutes, I can't even feel them, even when laying on my side. I'm still using the Warm Static sound and it works about 99% of the time to keep me from hearing any sounds from the other side of the bed. If I do hear it, I bump the volume up a touch and it goes away. So, I'm definitely still happy. There does seem to be a bug either in the software or iOS where allowing phone calls to make it through to the buds doesn't stay turned on. If I get it working one night then it doesn't work the next night. I'm not sure who's fault that is, Bose or Apple. I definitely recommend them if you are a light sleeper that can't tolerate any noises in your sleeping environment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: 1 year in Darn it. The left bud has stopped connecting to the app. I was thinking that they were two years old and these things do have limited recharge cycles. So I checked and no, they are only a year old. After slogging through the Bose support site and trying everything I was finally able to get to the place where they will replace them under warranty. That's nice but they are saying UP TO FOUR WEEKS to get the replacements. How the heck am I supposed to get any sleep for the next four weeks without these things? Hopefully it doesn't take that long. I'm still loving these things. They work very well for me. I hope this new set lasts more than a year.

Stopped working.
They stay secure in your ears all night, and they do seal pretty well so you can sleep through most noise. Also, I'm a side sleeper and have zero comfort issues with sleeping on my side because of how thin these are. I have two complaints: charging is VERY slow - takes 6 hours from zero to 100 and can't be used for the first time until you let them sit there for 6 hours so if they arrive late, you won't be able to unbox and use them right away because the app doesn't allow it until they've reached 100% the first time you get them. Also, on one occasion, an earbud wasn't perfectly lined up with the magnetic connector and when I went to bed I discovered it didn't charge one day. So you really have to sit there and observe the flashing charge light for a few seconds and make sure it's secure to the magnetic connector. My second complaint is that most of the sounds these come with aren't all that great and have clearly noticeable "loops" to them. I was able to find one that works for me where it's not really noticeable, but I wish there were more options both with deeper bass to mask car doors shutting/people going up and down stairs and I wish Bose would work on making sure there isn't a noticeable loop on any of them. On the plus side, I received a notification that new sounds were added to the library the other day, so Bose is actively updating these and supporting them. Aside from that these are excellent and the #1 highlight in my opinion is comfort and security. I forget I'm even wearing them when I lie down yet they plug my ears very nicely. 2022 Update: These failed on me. They consistently had issues charging and I’d have to sit there and unstick them from the magnetic connector, set them back in the case, pull them out, set them back in…sometimes 10+ times. After about a year of having them, one of them randomly became extremely quiet and virtually useless, so I could only really hear the sound out of one ear. After over a year now, last night I grabbed both earbuds from the case before bed, clearly both fully charged (no flashing lights), and the left earbud has completely stopped connecting. Now they’re no longer under warranty and would cost me $185 to replace. I’ve abused $150 pairs of Beyerdynamics and Audiotechnica headphones that have lasted me 7-8 years and show no signs of slowing down. A $249 pair of earbuds should not start dying after 12 months. These do not last.

Noise masking, most comfortable for sleep 💤
I've been through a few types of devices to play sounds to sleep before buying the Bose 2 sleep buds. I've tried: noise cancelling headphones: impossible to sleep on ur side bc they're bulkly even though cancels out noise. They make u sweat. With do not disturb on my phone would still ring in headphones. Noise cancelling earbuds: they go too deep into ur ear and hurt a lot after time, painful to sleep on side. Only lasted 6 hours. All the pain wasn't worth the fact they cancelled noise. Sleep mask with headphones: didn't cover any noise at all & mask was big & bulky. The Bose sleep buds are the most comfortable option. There's a lot of sounds to choose from. There's white & brown sounds. One of my favorite is the Railroad. It's a static sound with subtle sounds of riding on a train. The tranquilities are soft & slow melodies. Like meditation or relaxation music. The naturescapes & tranquilities don't mask noise as well as noise masking options bc their volume varies a little. Noise masking options have a constant volume. The naturescapes are nature sounds. I once slept for a little over 13 hours with the sleep buds so they do have a long battery life! They're magnetic so it makes it little less harder to lose one. There's a lot of different clever nicknames. When u go in & out of the app there's a different sets of nicknames. These buds are made for sleeping only. You cant talk on the phone. If ur phone rings, it'll only ring on ur phone. Not in the sleep buds. That's why they have such a long battery life. There's 4 alarm sounds. They're calm but enough to wake u up. Unlike buzzer alarms that shock u out of bed. I get 3-4 charges from the case. I have a tragus piercing. It got irritated after a while so I don't put it in anymore. But, remember they're noise masking not noise cancelling. I live with friends and I sleep in the living room. The one wakes up btwn 5 & 6 am! I have the sleep buds at the highest volume & on play all night. They mask a good portion of noise. I sleep pretty well. They mask out ppl talking from the next room. But I can hear cabinets closing in the kitchen, dogs claws on the floor, doors closing. I don't know how well they'd work with a snoring partner... These sleep buds were not cheap, but worth the money. When I was searching I saw Anker had made earbuds for sleep that were a little cheaper. I like Anker for music. Since they were new & didn't have reviews yet, I went with the Bose sleep buds 2 that are 2nd generation & have good reviews. The only thing I don't like is when u have play sound after alarm it won't play. Like a few alarms to snooze. You have to play it manually snoozing doesn't work. Overall, I'm happy with the Bose 2 sleep buds. They mask the majority of noise. I have bad insomnia & take 2 controlled sleeping prescriptions plus supplements. These help me sleep with less interruptions. They're the most comfortable option and have a very long battery life. Even though they were expensive, they were worth it. If ur looking for something that will cover up noise & help u sleep I highly recommend the Bose 2 sleep buds! 💯👍🏼 ***1 year update***: All of the sudden the right sleepbud dies before the right one. When the right is at 30% the left dies. So, I only get about 9 hours out of the left bud. I use them daily. I require more sleep than the usual person. They were fantastic when I first got them. I didn't buy the warranty and I definitely cannot afford new ones now. Very disappointed!!!

Sleep through construction noise
I work in a hospital on night shift, and I sleep mostly during the day, when the world is noisy. Normally foam earplugs have been enough, even through the noise of a loading dock on the street level below me. However, recently, construction started on a new apartment building across the street from me, and I needed something much more effective. I considered options between active noise canceling (ANC) or an option like this with noise masking where the noise is drowned out. Having other noise canceling earbuds and headphones (top of the line examples of both), I knew there were a lot of things that those don't do well at driving out: particularly percussive sounds. Moreover I needed an option where I could get sleep without missing my alarm and missing my shift completely or something terrible like that, so sleeping with pillows on top of my earplugs was out. These sleepbuds seemed to fit the ticket! For the foundation of the building they were starting, they had to drive huge beams into the ground with a great deal of percussive force for about a week. Imagine a jackhammer sound but much much louder. I wasnt even sure these would work as I could hear the construction driving home, but to my surprise, these sleepbuds were able to mask the sounds of the percussion! Without me needing to go max volume!!! I was thoroughly impressed and able to get full, rested sleep before my night shift! The rain sound option was the ticket especially for this kind of percussive noise, and otherwise for other humming noises outside (like heavy trucks or machinery moving), ocean sounds have worked well. If I could, I would take awake half a star for some incidental type things. For one, the buds are quite slow to connect to the app and now as a precaution I turn Bluetooth off and then on before opening the app, which has helped quite a bit with the timing. Otherwise, as a side sleeper these are mostly comfortable to have in your ears when laying, but over time, depending on the angle the pressure can push the buds against your ear canal at certain angles which can sometimes be uncomfortable (I find this happens maybe 20% of the time and I have to shift position). Finally, my other small gripe is having to go into the app to turn up or down the volume, which means opening a bright screen and possibly hurting sleep a bit. I wish pushing the up/down on my phone's volume buttons just did this. Otherwise these exceeded what I thought they could do and served their purpose of helping me sleep in spite of construction going on outside my window, and allowing me to be rested and able to think for my shift at work!

They are good when they work
Pros: drowns out my partners snoring and drowns out when he gets up super early for work and allows me to get sleep when they actually work. cons: they are very finicky. for example, sometimes the buds will have been on the charging port all day and i even will double check when i put them on that they’re both flashing. When i get ready to use them at bedtime only one will be charged and the other one will have 30% battery. this is with the charging port being plugged in all day. Another time i’ve had an issue has been the charging port actually freezing up and registering that a earbud is still on it even when it’s not and will not allow me to pair them to my phone. I had to run around at 11 at night to find a needle to reset the charging port. annoying after an exhausting day. The pairing on this thing is just really slow sometimes and wish it would be more streamlined. It takes a few tries some nights. Another con i knew going in to buying them is that they don’t play any other music and only play the audio stored on the earbuds, it’s the only way to have that battery life on something so small, but i feel these are overpriced for what they offer. Don’t get me wrong, when these work they’re great... i bought them one night when i just could not sleep and was frustrated. I saw others have issues with them falling out of their ears or feeling uncomfortable. I sleep on my side and they don’t really bother me and don’t fall out. I use the smallest size they had for the earbuds. They’re pretty noise cancelling to me, i can’t hear anything with them in. On weekends i give my ears a rest though with just regular ear plugs since the partner won’t be waking up super early on those days. They have gotten a lot of use and have helped me. I just wish that A. for how expensive these ear buds are they wouldn’t be so frustrating with the charging and the pairing. and B. would be able to at least be used as actual headphones in a different type of mode or something. I’d price these at $125. Not the $250 they’re charging.

Helps me sleep with tinnitus, bought a second set
I developed tinnitus overnight in 2005 - while it doesn't bother me much during the day, I found it hard to get to sleep without some kind of distracting noise. I went through many, many types of "sleep sound" devices, but all of them irritated my wife to various degrees. (The one that she could cope with was the Marsona/Dohm with a fan in a box.) I then got the first version of Bose Sleepbuds, and they were great. I could play my distracting sound and my wife didn't have to hear it. I loved the alarm feature and that they muted external sounds. But I soon had problems with the buds not charging and thus running out of battery in the middle of the night. Bose replaced the set twice, and finally admitted that the new battery tech they had put in the buds wasn't working out. I had thought Bose was simply discontinuing the Sleepbuds, but they then came out with the Sleepbuds II that had a NiMH battery in the buds. While these are not rated to last as long as the first version, the reality is that they last plenty long enough and I've had no problems with them for two years now - I use them every night, including while traveling. I like that the new charging case, while it looks and works the same as the old version, has USB-C for charging. The magnet system also is more reliable than the first version and there isn't noise from rubbing on a pillow that bothered some with the old model. Recently I read that Bose was shutting down its "Bose Health" division to concentrate on better selling products. I don't know that the Sleepbuds will be affected by this, but I didn't want to risk it, so I bought a second set to serve as a backup (I'll use these for travel.) There is another product on the market that claims to be a competitor to the Sleepbuds, Kokoon's Nightbuds. I had backed this on Kickstarter before I bought the Sleepbuds II, but it didn't get delivered until more than a year later. The Nightbuds are a complete failure in my opinion - the masking sound loops poorly (fades out and in every 30 minutes), there is no alarm, and the control box that sits behind your neck can be annoying. But if you're someone who wants to stream to your buds, the Bose Sleepbuds aren't for you as there's only the sounds uploaded to the buds. I do like that Bose added the "phone-free" mode that starts them up as soon as you take them out of the charging case - this is what I use unless I want an alarm (alarms don't work in phone-free mode.) This mode also shuts off the Bluetooth radio after ten minutes, in case that's a concern. I hope Bose continues making the Sleepbuds. For my purposes, I don't see how they could be improved - they're so comfortable I sometimes forget I have them in when I get up. There is a wide variety of sounds you can select from, but the simple "Warm Static" is the one I choose.

Finally, I can sleep!
Let's just say someone sleeping close to me snores....I'll leave it at that. I have tried white noise machines, earbuds, ear plugs, all to no avail. I saw these on a CNN review. At the $250 price point I was a little nervous to try these but I pulled the trigger. Boy am I glad I did. Noise blocking aside, these are by far the most comfortable earplug type devices I have used for sleep. These effectively drown out the snoring to the point that I can sleep. While I can still hear the snoring to some extent while I am awake, the snoring no longer wakes me up nor does it keep me up because it is so muted. Depending on the sound you choose, these do however completely drown out all other noises. Important to know because I would not hear an external alarm clock for example, nor would I hear someone in another room. Cats hungry at 4am though? No longer a problem. A lot of reviews have complained that these do not support sounds/music outside of the app. Well, this is what allows them to be so small and comfortable. To be able to get all the other stuff you'd have to give up size and comfort and that kinda defeats the purpose of these. There are about 40 sounds to choose from. Some block sounds better than others depending on what it is you need to block. Some of the sounds are terrible and sound artificial but I am sure you'll be able to find some that work for you. Pros: Small Comfortable in any sleeping position....at least for me. I sleep on my side They stay in my ear all night and have not once come out Battery life...I get three nights out of them before I have to recharge the case Lots of sounds to choose from They have an alarm feature that will function in the earpieces Cons: Expensive...you have to be sure these are worth the price point for you. For me they were. Some of the sounds are terrible but as noted there are lots to choose from I have used these for 10 nights in a row with no issues. I will update this review down the road if any of this changes.

Worth it, if you can live with the drawbacks
First: Everybody should be aware of this but if you aren't already... these do NOT play your own music. They can only play sounds from the Bose app. I was aware of this going in, and I'm perfectly satisfied as a result. I've been having sleep difficulties for the past 2 decades at least. I've tried pretty much everything to mask sound, and it all just ends up blending together. Every white noise machine, every app, every speaker all blends in to the ambient noise around me and my mind keeps wandering. Most recently I've been using a Google Home ("Hey Google, play water noises") but if I turn the volume up too high it disturbs my partner. Other options like headphones (uncomfortable when sleeping on side), earplugs (always fall out during the night no matter how carefully I insert them), or other earbuds (too bulky / uncomfortable when sleeping on side) never seemed to fit the bill. So I've have these particular sleepbuds on my radar for quite a while but with a sceptical eye... it's a lot of money if it doesn't end up meeting my needs! Finally during Black Friday sales I saw a price that made me pull the trigger. I've now been using these for around 6 weeks now and feel ready to write a review. Comfort: I have never had a more comfortable pair of earbuds. They fit perfectly in to my ear and it's like I'm wearing nothing at all (nothing at all... nothing at all!) when trying to sleep. I can comfortably rest on my pillow no matter the position and fall asleep with ease. Even better they've stayed secure throughout the night on every single occasion. Sounds: I've mainly been using Warm Static (closest to white noise, which I prefer) and it's great. I note other uses have mentioned "clicks" or noticeable repeating sounds in other programs, but I can't comment on those specifically. Sound dampening: My partner is a fairly loud snorer, let's not beat around the freshly sawn bush. These do the trick. I don't have the volume up full (I have it just at the point that it gives you a warning in app that it may block too many ambient sounds, around 75%) and it's very comfortable. On the odd occasion when sounds have broken through it's just a small whisper and not at all disturbing. The sounds itself seem to "fill" my head and even if my thoughts start to wander it's just this all-encompassing presence which helps me come back out of the thought spiral. This is what's been missing for me with other white noise generators; no matter how loud I had them I could still ignore them. I also found that I have to start using the "in-app" alarm instead of my usual phone alarm because I woke up one weekend with my regular alarm going off and I hadn't heard it for 20 minutes. Not a problem while on holidays but not going to cut it when trying to go to work. Battery life: These have always still been playing when I wake up. I don't know what my longest sleep-in has been, but it's always been enough. Overall: I'm very happy with these. I still think they're probably too expensive overall but I can't argue with the results.

Transformed my sleep - for the better
Firstly, as other reviewers have mentioned, these do not feature active noise cancellation. Think of them as earplugs that play a quiet, looped sound. As earplugs, they do block out a lot of background noise. My SO snores (payback for all the years that I did). Having the Sleepbuds in without any sound playing and the annoying sound is greatly attenuated - allowing me to get to sleep. But, they are not designed to block out ALL sound and no device (even with ANC) can do this! (Total absence of sound is actually uncomfortable) Via the App you get to choose from a large range of sounds that the Sleepbuds can play. You can only play one at a time - it's not a playlist; you can't play music. You can ONLY choose from their list of sounds and can't download more unless Bose themselves supply them via the App. You do transfer/download some of the sounds onto the Sleepbuds. This can take several minutes. The Sleepbuds only have so much memory - so you may have to remove some before you can add more. But you can preview the sounds in the app before committing to which "library" to have on the buds themselves. There are 2 modes of operation. 1. You put the buds in your ears (they turn on when removed from the case and usually connect instantly - but can, albeit rarely, take a minute to connect to the app). Using the app you choose which sound (of the ones you downloaded to the buds) to play and the volume. You can set a timer after which the sound stops. 2. Via the app you set the buds to autoplay. Once removed from the case they will start playing the sound you choose at the time you enable the autoplay feature and you can configure the timer too. I prefer option 2 - I just put the buds in my ears at bedtime and settle down to sleep. No need to open the app and send all that blue light into my already drowsy eyes ;) I always used to take a LONG time to get to sleep most of the time. Rarely would I drop off within minutes. Since buying the Sleepbuds I find I'm dropping off very quickly and into a much deeper sleep. Most nights I have a great sleep. My only quibble is that my ears can get quite warm and sweaty after a few hours - so I usually wake up and take the buds out. I find I drop off again very easily. I use alcohol wipes to clean the buds and can't imagine not having them as part of my bedtime routine any more.

A literal life saver if you have trouble with noise
These things are amazing...worth every dollar even with the steep price tag. I had alot of trouble sleeping because of a noisy environment which was causing my health to actually take a dip. I can finally sleep a full night without being woken up. They are also very comfortable and I can sleep in any position without discomfort. These block out all noise and I don't even think I would be able to hear my fire alarm if it were to go off...that could be a pro or a con, However since I've got these I have slept great every night. The app functions work well and all the noises on the app are nice as well. I was worried because you can't upload your own noises but they have something for everyone I think. Now the only bad thing is it seems like the battery drains pretty fast out of the case even when not using it... So id recommend plugging in the case everyday just so they aren't dead when you use them even though there was enough battery for another night.. Anyways besides that one small issue I believe these are the best option out there for helping with sleep.
