The Best Of The Goons

I still love them after all these years. British humour has something American humor can't touch. Maybe it's the missing "u"! Ageless because of the fast thinking, ad-libs and ingenuity. although these were recorded for radio, much of their fun is visual, but all in the mind of the listener. You can't beat it!

They are one group that require more than just two CDs (or LPs originally). Their show, I believe, was 30 minutes, and that's not like the National Lampoon or Firesign Theatre. But what you get is brilliantly insane.

The best of pre- Beatles humor! Funny (for those who rember radio), I'll be ordering more of the series.

If you are unable to find humour here, it would be best not to enter the "time warp" these fellows weave.

Most of this is can not be understood by any one that does not have a very heavy British accent. The little bit that is intelligible to American ears is not funny.

I don't quite know which brought a smile to my face more, buying this for my Dads' Christmas present (along with the best of the Goon show no-2) was it the knowledge that my Dad can finally listen to all those so fondly remembered antics from yesteryear that he has whistfully craved over the years, or the fact that my Mum (like all women on the planet, including myself) hates this rubbish & will have to sit through it because number One Daughter bought it & it's a Christmas present?!!! Cruel, but a little bit funny too! :o)

The goons and Hancock come from my childhood when we only had a radio. I just love the silliness about them.

I'd already bought this for Dad before, my altzheimers creeping in there then .... but Dad is delighted with the Goon CDs - very pleased with his 87th birthday present - bought with a few others, brings back memories for him & for me too I have to admit ! The perfect gift it seems, for the man who thinks he has everything & I have now ended up with it & it's hysterically funny to listen to again and again.

Dad was very pleased with his gift and has played it many times.
