It's so NICE I bought it TWICE!
Oops, I may have just bought the last one! Started off with the brand new shiny model, fancy knobs, sleek look, and all that jazz. Nice little gadget, except it’s actually way smaller than the old model. Yep, they went backwards! Trying to cook for a family in convection-microwave-sized shoebox? Yeah... not gonna work. So, I went retro and grabbed the old, much larger model. At around $200, this thing is a steal. The new one’s dial to set time is neat, though it feels like it could snap off if you look at it wrong, and it’s whisper-quiet, like it’s sneaking around the kitchen at night. But besides that, the old faithful beats it in almost every way. Now, the programmed settings on both? Utterly bonkers. I swear Toshiba’s secret mission is to make microwaving feel like rocket science. Who remembers all those confusing presets? It’s the 21st century, Toshiba! We have smart fridges that can order pizza, how about a microwave that functions without a PhD in buttonology? And the clock? Oh boy. It loses time every time the power blinks, which is like three times a week in my house. I have a computer from the 1970s that remembers the date better than this microwave. Seriously, it’s like a time traveler stuck in a time warp. All in all, though, it’s a great microwave. I now have two of the exact same model in the kitchen which is a blessing, one set of crazy programs to memorize! The convection function is fantastic, so if you can find one still floating around, grab it before I do!

Perfect for me. I like it very much!
Received and unboxed a few days ago. No damage. Well packaged. Plugged in. Used microwave and convection function. Engaging these options is a little nonintuitive, but I will figure it out. Both the microwave and convection options work great. Toshiba is very quiet when running. Unit replaces a 22 year old Amana Radar Range unit which I loved that died. This unit has the same exterior look and dimensions externally and internally as my dead radar range. Even the control panel is similar. I know many have complained about the air fryer functionality on this Toshiba unit. I do not air fry, so not an issue for me. I always bake items that can be fried instead of air frying with maybe a light spray of oil. Same end result as air frying, maybe a little longer cooking time with little splattering and cleanup versus air frying. The rack that with came with the radar range extended to the edge of the turntable. The ones that came with the Toshiba are not the diameter of the turntable to support a big pizza or larger baking pans or casserole dishes. So I am using the old larger rack which fits perfectly and is more heavy duty. So I think that Toshiba should provide racks that extend to the edge of the turntable. I know this Toshiba unit has sensor options and combo cooking, that some have complained about. Will not use either as I follow instructions on product packaging and recipes and manually set temp, power level and cooking time. So this is not an issue for me either. I would never rely on a preprogrammed sensor/ computer chip to cook my food. Using this as a basic microwave and convection oven works flawlessly, and it is a great replacement so far. Not sure about longevity. However, $244 total cost with tax shipped to me as a Prime member with 7% cash back using my Chase Prime VISA card works for me. The Amana Radar Range which is no longer made cost over $600 more than twenty years ago. Also, some complain that the exterior get too hot. My old Amana got hot on the exterior. This is an appliance that heats up when using convection or air fry. It is counter top. It has to heat in order to cook. Your full size ovens heat up and do get hot on the exterior albeit with maybe more insulation for less heat transfer. Complaints about heat build up are irrational if you want cooked food. Some complain about the repeated "beeps" at the end of the cooking cycle. That sound can be disabled. Read the manual and follow steps to disable. Read and make the adjustment. Why complain when there is a work around? I think many folks want to be able to call a manufacturer to order an item custom designed and programmed for them which is ludicrous and reflects entitlement and maybe laziness or not wanting to "think".

A great asset to have in any kitchen
This is a dual Toshiba micro/conv oven. My brother has a similar one and he recommended it. I am still experimenting but so far it has been great. There5so many options, and it does what it says, and does it great. I would definitely recommend this rather than getting just a regular microwave. The extra money is well worth it.

HIDDEN MALFUNCTION UNTIL...
Loved the blue LED lights. Other than that... The microwave appeared to work well. We had no idea how to use the convection or air fryer functions, so we waited until a weekend when we could sit down with the manual and follow step by step. 1st Issue: NO MANUAL. OK, that seems to be the way of the world these days, we'll find it online. Nope. No real manual online either. Ok. Just basics. We can figure it out. (Note: not really. With a unit such as this, a manual is required with how-tos and suggested recipes to get you started.) We wanted air fried chicken wings. Yum! We sprayed the rack, put the chicken on it, placed it in the unit, turned it to convection - here's a lesson: air frying is really convection only done on an elevated rack. Really?? So what? We put the dials and settings as instructed, and tapped start. Suddenly, CLANK, CRASH, BAM, BANG, CLUNK-CLUNK-CLANK!!! It sounded like a box of nails was let loose inside We turned it off immediately, unplugged it, and cooked the wings in the oven. I hate when an expensive item comes broken! Where's Quality Control? Anyway, it took 3 physical attempts for a return pick-up (No Shows, no calls, emails, or text notifications while we sat at home, as required) each one further delaying the pick up date, and many more telephone chats (and long, long hold times and robot gate-keeper refusals to put my calls through to a human) to get Amazon to finally remove the broken unit from my porch, which also delayed my refund, of course. If you're interested in buying a new microwave, I suggest buying one that has just one function, simply to microwave. We bought a Farberware to replace the broken 4in1 and, so far, it is working quite well. I read somewhere that Toshiba had been bought out by another company. Perhaps this is a reflection of the new standards for Toshiba products going forward. Buyers be warned.

Excellent product. I would certainly purchase it again.
Delivery was exceptional with great care taken. I bought the Silver model, at a great savings but I can not tell the difference between the black or silver model. As a aise note… Push the Time button twice to set the time, ;-)

Fantastic! Toshiba ML-EC42P(SS) 4 function Microwave / Air Fryer / Convection / Combination
Fantastic! Toshiba ML-EC42P(SS) 4 function Microwave / Air Fryer / Convection / Combination Before I get into MY review I'd like to address someone else's review. ==================== When I was checking out the Microwaves, I stumbled across a review for THIS one that claimed that you couldn't type in the time to microwave, and so were stuck with 1 to 6 minutes, and then you were forced to press the "More" or "Less" buttons raising or lowering the time by one minute. Or using the "Start / Play" button to ad 30 seconds. Limiting the times you can microwave starting at 30 Seconds, 1 to 6:30: .5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5 Minutes. Though you can add more minutes by pressing "More". If this were true, this would be a HORRIBLE microwave, as we know that a handful of seconds can be the difference between perfectly cooked food and burned or overcooked food. She doesn't know what she's talking about, obviously didn't read the manual OR EVEN LOOK at the keypad. You CAN work it like she described, though I don't know WHY you'd WANT TO! First, she describes ONLY using the Quick Start buttons, which are the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and, if we're being honest, the "Play" Button (adding 30 seconds to the total, each time you press it). In conjunction with the "More" and "Less" buttons, adding or subtracting 1 minute at a time. All of this is explained in the manual. But, if you're not a "Manual" kind of person, then you only need to read the keypad. If a person does that, he or she will run into 3 buttons directly above the number-pad: Micro, Conv, and Combo. (With an Airfry button one line underneath the top left row.) With just the lightest application of "the Little Grey Cells" a reasonably intelligent child would be able to be able to make these associations: Micro = Microwave Conv = Convection Combo = Microwave then Convection Cooking If you press the Micro Button, the unit displays, "00:00:00" and if you start typing in the time that you want, it will start filling up time by inserting each new number at the right-most spot. So if you type "100" the unit will display "00:01:00", and if you add a number 2 the display will show "00:10:02", or 10 Minutes and 2 Seconds. As you can see, it's not too complicated. Review review is over. My review continues below. The ML-EC42P(SS) is a fantastic machine! I had some concerns about this machine: 1) Microwave is only 1,000 Watts. Danger of under-cooking. More and more foods say they "Require" 1,200 Watts, 2) Air Fryer might be wimpy. 3) Some reviews say the manual is confusing. PROS: 1) Manual isn't bad. I've read MUCH WORSE. Just read it a few times, and keep it handy for referring to it when you're confused. 2) That it is a 1000 Watt oven is rarely an issue. But when it is, you can extend the time by a few seconds, or minutes. 3) Air Fryer does a really decent job! Sometimes it takes MORE time than using the microwave (for instance, "Hot Pockets") would be. But it's a "Set-it and Forget-it" deal, and produces MUCH better results. (For instance, microwaving 2 Hot Pockets takes 2 or 3 minutes, while "Airfrying" takes about 13 minutes. But, the unit turns itself off after it's done. 4) The Convection function can either heat to a specific temperature (Press: Conv->Set Temperature->Play->Play), OR it can cook for a SPECIFIC length of time (Press: Conv->Set Temperature->Play->Type in Time to Cook->Play). 5) Auto Defrost works like a charm! CONS: 1) Flat, smooth, bubble Keys / Buttons kind of to press / find. No bumps or lines to distinguish where they start or stop. I slide my finger across the button I want to press. 95% success. 2) Only 1000 Watts. 3) Keypad NOT backlit. 4) Keypad / Display can be hard to read. 4) Not smart.

Save money and just get a basic microwave only
Pros: mute function is awesome. Runs super quiet as a microwave. Eco mode when not in use is nice. Cons: stains super easily especially at the fan in back and hard to clean off. Not as powerful as my previous Panasonic microwave only with the same wattage, leading to longer cooking times for food to still come out undercooked. The massive amount of steam from every use started getting between the two glass panes. Air fryer function is pointless if you have a stand alone air fryer. This takes almost twice as long and you need higher temperatures to boot, but if you’re okay with that it does a decent job. I ended up returning it and getting a cheaper microwave only, with more space and more power, and pulled my air fryer back out of storage.

It almost does it all!
This is (almost) the Swiss Army Knife of microwave ovens. This is our second "all-in-one" unit, the previous one was called the "Toastwave" from Galanz. The Galanz died (twice) faster than any other microwave oven-like-device we've ever had. The first Galanz died after one-day and was replaced without issue. The second one arrived in good working condition but all of the functions except the microwave died in about two years. Pity the Galanz was a beautiful appliance. If you want: 1. Microwave 2. Convection oven 3. Combination (micro+convect) 4. Air-fryer 5. Capacity over 1.2 cf This Toshiba is the unit for you. There are PERHAPS some "better" units but they always seem to be .9 cf to 1.1 cf. Now if that size works for you, then you might want to consider the Breville (about double the cost) that is a member of the Premium Class of appliances. And it's about $450 or so on Amazon. If the thing had been even 1.3 cf, we would have gone with the Breville. But it was 1.1 which was smaller than the Galanz. At 1.5 cf, you are pretty close to having two ovens if you also have a conventional range. The great thing about these units is that they have the Air-fry function so you can (if you have another stand-alone air-fryer) air-fry corn-on-the-cob in the Toshiba and air-fry your protein in your stand-alone air-fryer. If we had one "con" about the Toshiba it's that the microwave is 1,000 watts and an increasing amount of recipes call for or assume you have at least a 1,100 unit. It's a relatively small complaint, we just usually add 10% to the time called for. Love the combi feature, too. Over all I'd give this Toshiba a 4.8 if that rating was a choice. Hence the 5-stars. One last thing: at less than $260, this unit is a value!

Looks like and works like a regular microwave oven but does much more.
Unlike my previous multi function microwave that required a week of retraining to figure out, this Toshiba has the same functions of a regular microwave and the extra features can be learned in minutes. I really like the bright light inside and the clear safety glass on the door (some others are darkly tinted) so that I can easily see what is going on inside. When I put a cup of coffee in to warm up the turntable brings the handle back to where I left it. The turntable is the same clear glass type as a regular microwave (my old one was metal and Teflon coated which was easy to scrape.) All the other functions and buttons are pretty much the way one is used to so you are in business with almost no learning curve. Another thing I like is it looks the same as a regular microwave which is handy when guests need to use it. My only beef is the Instruction Manual which tells you how to use the various functions but not why and when you would use them. For example there is an Eco function but nothing in the manual tells you what it does (it turns off the display to save a few cents on your power bill). There is also a "combi"function with instructions of what buttons to press. Nothing on why I would need to use this however. I found out elsewhere that this can be used to reheat pizza and have it crispy like it was originally. There is a lot of information online if you know where to look but I wish I didn't have to do that.

Michelyne Blais
