## Description

TotalBoat Gel Coat creates a durable, super-smooth, high-gloss coating on boat hulls, RVs, composite parts, and even repairs to fiberglass showers and tubs, pools and more. This high-quality boat gel coat contains a premium-grade ISO NPG polyester resin more durable than orthophthalic resins, and is preferred in boat building and as a gelcoat repair kit for boats due to greater strength, flexibility & protection against damage from water, weather, and chemicals. Gelcoats are available without wax for use in layups, and with wax for finishing. 2% MEKP catalyst is best, but in cooler conditions, add up to 3% MEKP. In warmer conditions or for added working time, add 1% MEKP. Cured gelcoat can be dewaxed, wet sanded & buffed to a high-gloss, protective finish. Gelcoat without wax is used for the initial layer of a layup, but for a tack-free cure, mix in a paraffin wax additive (sold separately) at a rate of 20 drops per ounce of gelcoat without wax (16 oz. of Gelcoat w/o Wax = 1/4 oz. of Wax Additive, 32 oz of Gelcoat w/o Wax = ½-1 oz of Wax Additive, and 1 gal. of Gelcoat w/o Wax = 2-4 oz of Wax Additive). TotalBoat Gelcoats can also be tinted to achieve a desired color. For neutral gelcoat, add 10% polyester resin or gelcoat colorant (12% for yellow, red, purple, light green and orange). For white gel coat, use up to 1% gelcoat coloring agent. Always mix colorant into gelcoat before adding MEKP. If thinning, use styrene. If applying inside a layup as the first layer, use a release agent first. If applying over TotalBoat TotalFair epoxy fairing compound, apply TotalBoat 2-Part Epoxy Primer or TotalProtect before applying Gelcoat boat paint. Compare to Gelcoats from West Marine, FGCI, Fibre Glast, Fiberglass Supply Depot, Polymer Planet, Hi-Bond and Evercoat Gel-Kote. Gelcoat should be part of every boat fiberglass repair kit. All TotalBoat products are developed for boaters by boaters to provide great value and great results. 100% made in the USA.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a jetski with pits in hull, can i just paint this on and apply a couple of coats, after prepping it and what would be best, with or without wax?**
A: the wax in the gel coat allows it to cure. The advantage of no waz is you can come back hours or even the next day and add additional coats. For a simple repair, I would get with wax.

**Q: Will this product run, or can it be molded to hold the desired shape?**
A: It is a liquid, so you will not be able to mold it.

**Q: Can this gelcoat be tinted with pigments?**
A: Yes, the gelcoat can be tinted with pigments. If you are not matching a white color, you may want to select a neutral gelcoat to tint. Adding pigments to white will create pastel colors.

**Q: can this be sprayed on? And how many square feet does it cover?**
A: It it can be spray but you'll need a large tip like your numbers four or six probably six Leavy better it's got about 12 to 15 minute jail time. I think 1 gallon we cover about 400 ft.² And 10 mil thick.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Waxed gelcoat as the final coat *Sunfish sailboat
*by C***S on September 7, 2025*

Great product, very easy to apply to the hull as a final coat. This gelcoat is much easier to work with around 70-80*. I used a 1/4 inch nap, no lint roller to apply the gelcoat. Now it’s time to sand and buff.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Gel on Amazon!!!
*by K***R on September 19, 2025*

What I have to say is, this gel coat comes through every time. I sands great, is out performs any other gel on Amazon. I made the mistake of trying a different brand and got burned. It didn’t sand well, ate up most of my sand paper, even my 40 grit airfile paper gummed up.So don’t be fooled, this is the only gel I’ll ever use again and I’ve been doing boats, gel coat and fiberglass repair for 40 years.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Adheres well! Great for non-skid gelcoat surfaces.
*by F***N on April 30, 2019*

Could not have renovated a sailboat that went through Hurricane Michael, without this stuff. The biggest complaint I have heard in the past is that gel coat that is not molded onto fiberglass does not adhere well. My boat was completely bare of polish or wax, and pre-sanded with 220/400/600/1000/ and 1500, because my existing gelcoat was in horrible condition. Took more sanding at the coarser level, and very little at the fine, finishing level. Don't know about a boat with wax, but I did find if I inadvertently dropped a drop on virtually anything, this stuff adheres to the point I can't remove it, plastic, cement, stainless steel etc. I got the no-wax because I have an older boat and did not want a standout shiny patch. Having said that, I would speculate that a pure plastic (then coated with wax after drying) would be stronger than a plastic mixed with a foreign material like wax. There is an art to using gelcoat over epoxy and filler. If you are not a skilled sander you may have trouble. I put on with a paint brush quickly in a space surrounded by painters tape. I also did a few less drops of MEK than was recommended which extended my dry time, but also "working" time. Then I removed the tape even before it dried, because when I had let it dry, it pulled up the edges of the gelcoat paint job. Started with 160 sandpaper and went to 400 for final finish--all wet sanding only. Takes patience, and you have to be careful around the edges where the old finish is.This stuff is dynamite on non-sked surfaces. Did not even have to get rid of the dead gelcoat--just cleaned with soap and water. Used a high quality paint brush that I had to toss after each application, and worked quickly. Non-skid has two sets of lines--one down and to the right, the other ninety degrees off and to the left. I brushed on to the right and finish brushed into the other set of lines to the left. Makes a more uniform looking surface. Hard as nails and stain free thus far. Sealed with several coats of Star-brite marine polish. Looks brand new. And, almost forgot, had to tape around each non-stick surface to make it look professional, when applying.
