Perfect companion for the PS5.
As a dedicated tech enthusiast and PS5 owner, I had the opportunity to test and experience the Samsung 980 PRO NVMe SSD, and it has unequivocally proven itself as the quintessential storage upgrade for Sony's gaming console. Compatibility and Installation: The Samsung 980 PRO seamlessly integrates with the PS5, thanks to its M.2 NVMe form factor. Installation is not complicated but you need to be confortable with this kind of operations. To install it in your PS5, you will need to follow these steps: -Install the heatsink to the SSD -Turn off your PS5 and unplug it from the power outlet. -Remove the side panel of your PS5. -Locate the M.2 expansion slot. -Remove the screw that secures the M.2 expansion slot cover. -Carefully remove the M.2 expansion slot cover. -Insert the Samsung 980 PRO into the M.2 expansion slot carefully but firmly. Make sure that the connector is facing the correct way before pushing. -Secure the Samsung 980 PRO with the screw that you removed in step 4. -Replace the M.2 expansion slot cover and the side panel of your PS5. -Turn on your PS5 and follow the on-screen instructions to format the Samsung 980 PRO. Performance Boost with PCIe 4.0: Leveraging the PCIe 4.0 interface, the 980 PRO delivers blistering data transfer speeds. This translates to dramatically reduced load times for games and applications. In my tests there is no difference between the internal ssd and this one. Heat Management and Heatsink Compatibility: Thermal management is critical for maintaining consistent performance, especially during prolonged gaming sessions. I wisely paired the 980 PRO with an effective heatsink, which complemented its intelligent thermal control. The combination managed to keep temperatures well within the optimal range, preventing any instances of thermal throttling. I used this heatsink: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08QD93S3F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 1TB Capacity: Offering a capacious 1TB of storage, the 980 PRO is more than adequate for housing an extensive game library. It provides the freedom to install a multitude of titles without fretting over storage constraints. Overall Verdict: In conclusion, the Samsung 980 PRO NVMe SSD is a really good choice for the PS5. Its compatibility, performance, and robust thermal management make it a stellar choice for enhancing your gaming experience.

Solid buy - PS5 compatible.
I bought this for my PS5. I'm currently using the (PS5) beta firmware and one of the enabled features was the activation of the m.2 port. I wasn't lacking in available space as there is not a real lot of ps5 games released that actually interest me, I was getting by with my 4tb external drive and the stupidly small amount of internal SSD space on the console itself but I figured I would go ahead and buy a drive anyway. Sony recommend you attach a heatsink to your nvme drive if it doesn't come with one as standard, After looking at factory heatsink nvme drives specifically the WD-Black SN850 1tb, it became apparent you pay a heafty price on top for the heatsink, At the time of writing it was £150 for the 1tb WD black and £235 for the same drive with a heatsink attached, probably hiked in price due to a Sony guy tweeting it was his drive of choice. Anyway I decided to buy the 980-pro (this drive). It was marginally more than the SN850 and I'm presuming other people were showing interest as Amazon's price algorithm jumped from £176 to £188 (then back down to £179 immediately after I bought it).. thanks for that, just my luck. The heatsink I paired it with was the 'EZDIY-FAB M.2 2280 heatsink' (ASIN: B086X79CSN). £11.99 at the time of writing this. Installing the heatsink and installing the drive was really straight forward, it fits in the bay nice and snug and the cover screws back down fine. The drive installs (into the PS5) Samsung label/chip side up (facing you/installation door), so install the heatsink accordingly. I have a external harddrive for PS4 titles which I will continue to use. I moved all my ps5 titles from the console SSD to the m.2 and set the console to install to that drive from here on in. I have been playing pretty long and hard today and not noticed any laggy frames (apart from a little screen tearing on AC: Valhalla, which happened occasionally when using the built in SSD) Overall load times and performance is no different than the Sony SSD. I do think the prices are outrageous, £350/450 for 2tb and the best part of a grand for a 4tb, hopefully the prices will come down in time, but as demand increases (when the firmware goes public). It wouldn't surprise me if they get worse before they get better. The SN850 is a little cheaper (none heatsink) and maybe a better choice. Both drives offer the same limited warranty (5years or 600TB written, whichever comes first). I can't think of anything else to say, I should of taken a few pictures before I closed/plugged in my ps5. I will maybe open it up and take a few in the next few days.. Edit: There seems to be misinformation floating around regarding the removal of the Samsung sticker, It's my opinion that you should not do this for two reasons.. 1. It's a thermal sticker designed to redistribute the heat, so it's only going to help the tape/heatsink. 2. More importantly removing this will void your (Samsung) warranty. Of course in the end the choice is yours. Buy with confidence! I hope this review helps in some way.

A blisteringly fast, rock-solid SSD that’s well worth the investment
This Samsung 980 PRO 2 TB NVMe drive has genuinely elevated my PC’s performance. Slipping it into the M.2 slot was utterly straightforward—just insert, secure the single screw and enable PCIe 4.0 in the BIOS. From there, boot and load times have been slashed, and I’m consistently seeing read speeds up to 7 000 MB/s and write speeds around 5 000 MB/s, exactly as advertised. The build quality feels premium, with a low-profile heatsink that keeps temperatures in check even under sustained workloads. Whether I’m editing large RAW files, compiling code or launching games, everything happens almost instantaneously, making it a genuinely useful upgrade for any power user or photographer. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but for the performance gains and reliability Samsung is renowned for, it represents excellent value for money. I’d happily buy this SSD again and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a durable, easy-to-install, high-speed storage solution that truly delivers.

Cons: Price Point: The 980 PRO, being a high-end SSD with cutting-edge technology, comes at a premium price. While it offers exceptional performance, budget-conscious consumers might find it relatively more expensive compared to other SSD options.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Amazing Upgrade - Blazing Fast and Instantly Noticeable
The Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD is an amazing upgrade - genuinely transforms your system. With PCIe 4.0 speeds hitting 7,000 MB/s read and 5,000 MB/s write, boot times, game loads, and file transfers are lightning fast. Installation was straightforward, and it runs cool and stable even under heavy use. Ideal for gaming, video editing, or just giving your PC a serious performance boost. If you're upgrading from SATA or older NVMe, the difference is night and day. Highly recommended for anyone chasing top-tier speed and reliability.

Fast and reliable workstation drive
I use this in my workstation and it has been fast and reliable. The capacity is enough for larger projects, and transfers are quick enough that I never really think about the drive. Newer options are faster on paper, but in normal use I have no reason to replace it.

Extremely good and overkill.
I am currently using this in my new build that has a Gen 4 Slot for this drive. The speeds are as advertised and sometimes creep up past the advertised ones. The drive is tiny almost the size of my pinky and absolutely wafer thin so you must be careful when handling it. In terms of windows boot times, I noticed no difference coming from a 2016 960 EVO NVMe which is to be expected because once you reach a certain speed point the difference is negligible. Games loaded almost identical with the newer drive loading milliseconds quicker. This is a good purchase alongside another SSD used for storage. I wouldn't use this as the sole drive in the PC unless you get the largest storage capacity they have to offer. One benefit of solid state memory that I see others fail to mention in their review is how it helps your download speed stay consistent. For example I have a 1Gigabit download speed and when downloading games on steam to my hard disk drive it will only download data as fast the hard drive can write. With an SSD 2.5inch or NVMe your speed will be consistent all the way through. Overall 10/10 and exceeded my expectations.

Great Quality
250GB and 2TB This is the second 980 Pro I have bought. These drivers get very hot so you will need a suitable cooler. They are fantastically fast. The speed increase over the PCIe 3 is really amazing. You won't notice much until you copy files or load very large applications, but if you need the speed then you really are going to notice the performance increase these drives bring. I think the one thing that is slightly annoying about the advertising for the PCIe 4 drives is that they often describe them as gaming drives. I replaced a SATAIII drive with a 980Pro PCIe 4 and I can tell you there was almost no noticeable increase in performance. However, in one game I noticed a distinct advantage using the PCIe 4 drive. In the game Destiny 2, if you know that game there are points where you cross boundaries and it loads in more of the map. With the SATA III drive there was a delay of one to two seconds. With the PCIe 4 drive this reduced to "a slight glitch". The difference was very noticeable and gave you several seconds of advantage over other players. Whether you consider that worth the cost, well, that's up to you. Highly recommended, but don't upgrade just for speed, you may not notice any increase at all.
