reasonable effort but unexciting
I couldn't get excited about this story which wasn't substantially different to many others I have read in this genre. It was just ok and I would not be interested in a sequel. Characters were pretty boilerplate and two dimensional so there was no fleshing out to hook one's interest. That left the story line which was ok and nothing special. Writers in this genre have to think hard about what they can bring that's different to the norm if they expect to make any significant impact.

Not a waste of money
I really enjoyed that the author used everyday people as the characters and not former Navy Seals or Army Rangers. The characters had not major skill sets and had to learn on the fly. Loved that. However the characters felt very one dimensional. Not a bunch of details on them. I couldn't find myself interested in them. The story itself was interesting. Loved how the plague starts. Loved the descriptions of the zombies. It just seemed at times the story time line is choppy. The book was interesting and not a bad first outing.

great story
I really enjoyed reading The First 30 Days. I like that this book started on day one of the apocalypse and not in the middle of things. It is realistic to think that something could go wrong with a simple thing like the flu vaccine and the virus develop, thus making everyone sick. Stop reading here if you don't want to know anything about the plot. I thought it was interesting that Alex wanted to examine Shawn's scratches once they reached the sporting goods store stronghold. The idea that someone may be immune or there may be a way to fight off infection if one is scratched will lead for good plot ideas in future installments. I enjoy just about everything related to zombies, so this was a pleasant easy read for me. I like that the zombies decay. The newer ones are faster and smarter than the older ones.

Good story
If you are looking for a really well done read, this is the book. It keeps you rooting for the main character's, but also wanting to do terrible things to the bad guys. A good read.

Not bad, not particularly good either.
This book has decent writing, but incredibly flat characters and cliché plot. I didn't really care when any of the characters died because the author spent no time developing the characters into people, not did they bother developing the relationships between characters. The protagonist repeats over and over how these people are her family but she has 1-10 lines max between her any any given person besides the other main character. The action sequences are also set up like these big scary challenges, but they're so repetitive that I'd find myself skipping over them because they all played out exactly the same. This book adds nothing new or interesting to an already over-saturated genre. The author has potential, but I'd skip over this one if you're a veteran of zombie literature

ACTION, SUSPENSE, HORROR
I really enjoyed Lora Powell's zombie apocalypse novel. It had all the perfect mixtures of suspense and horror. Without giving anything away, I have to say that I enjoyed the beginning part of the book as the protagonist, Bri, finds herself in a dire predicament. When she finally escapes, the story really takes off. There are never any dull moments along the way. Solid writing, I would definitely read more from this author and hopefully, there will be a sequel to this book.

Loved this story!
Can't wait for the next one in this series? When's it coming out again? :o) I loved that these were ordinary people fighting zombies and unordinary humans. I loved that they made themselves a family. Family doesn't end it blood and it doesn't start there either.

Very solid and a good read
Nice characterization, very strong 3/4 then it failed off a bit at the end but still worth a read, 50/50 on 2nd volume.

The first 30 days
Loved this book, I'm a huge fan of this genre and really enjoyed the story being told from a female perspective. The characters were well rounded and believable and I was routing for them from start to finish. A real page turner. I was gutted when I realized I'd reached the end. A great read for lovers of zombies, Gore, horror, suspense and all things apocalyptic. Left me wanting more.
