Superb
One of the best style guides ever written. Not as technical as Strunk and White; it is practical at a copy level instead, therefore less dry. (It doesn't go into great detail around how to use a comma.) This is an excellent tool for journalists, to help us carve statues out of blocks of prose. It is available cheap on Amazon in a previous incarnation used -- The Word, by the same writer. I like the old brown book better. But that's a format preference, and nostalgia. The original was required reading at J school. Either version will make any but the best writer better with each read of the book.Highly recommended.

Not just for Journalists
This book is a must reference for journalists. It is small enough to be read and re-read many times. Every journalist should be forced to read this book, and be quizzed on it, every six months. It would save the rest of us from having to read the awful writing in the manistream press. Even a non-journalist would enjoy this book. It will give you some insight into how news stories are written. Also, if you catch a journalist breaking these simple "how to" rules, you can move on to another more well written story.Personally, I would rather read a well written story about a topic in which I have no interest, than a poorly written story about something for which I am passionate.

Excellent content, low print quality
An excellent must have book for every editor/journalist. As an editor with three years of experience, it taught me a lot.The only thing I can complain about is the book's quality. It's doesn't feel durable and the greyish paper along with the contrast lacking ink take a bite off the reading pleasure.

The antidote to journalese and imprecision in news writing
The book is small, testimony to its conciseness, since it shares very useful and helpful information. Information that I found useful even as an experienced journalist. I especially enjoyed the portion dealing with journalese. Most journalists would learn from and benefit by reading this book, since journalese is everywhere.Looking back on my work in the light of this book's counsel, I was able to recognize mistakes I had made that had weakened my reporting. I have started implementing Mr. Cappon's advice in my work and see a marked improvement.

I carry this everywhere with me like a Bible
I used this for my journalism class and for my editing positions, but even if you’re not interested in journalism as a career field, everyone can benefit from the lessons in here — mainly concerning color, eliminating passive voice from your writing and brevity (which I am still working on, clearly. LOL). It’s actually a fun read, which I was not expecting from a style guide, of all things. I appreciate Cappon’s near-constant snark.

Real Journalism
This book is great for any writer looking to try journalism. It teaches the 'old-school' basics, which, unfortunately too many on-air journalists neglect. This book is for the serious print journalist who wants his writing to appeal to the masses.

A decent tool
This is another text that is similar to many others. But it is a good tool for beginning writers to have on their shelf.

Like a Course in Newspaper Journalism
The guide is like a course in writing. It not only points out mistakes in writing, but gives suggestions for how to do it right. Excellent book. Former Editor for Newsweek; really knows the subject.

My go to reminder
Great, to the point book. Should be read at least once a year by every writer, and twice a year by every journalist. Its length allows it to be read in a (long) evening. Glad I came across it when I did. Its chapter on journalese made me laugh out loud.

what it says on the cover.
This is a great little reference book to have around, not so much for reading the whole way through but for browsing regularly. Clear, concise advice about how to improve your writing, lots of things that maybe seem obvious but certainly bear reminding. It can be quite funny at time, as well, especially in the sample articles the author uses to illustrate his point. Very glad I got it.
