## Description

HYBRID DRIVE: Instantly add 128GB of lighting-fast onboard flash memory storage to your 15” unibody  MacBook Pro with Retina Display. TarDisk combines with internal volume to add this storage space directly to your SSD. HARDWARE: Seated inside of a precision UniBody Aluminum enclosure, TarDisk takes advantage of next-generation flash memory controllers developed for high-definition 4k filming. The cooling effect of the Aluminum enclosure enables the use of premium, high-density, MLC flash memory modules to be used -- the same as those found in many SSDs. PERFORMANCE: When ”installed”, performance is matched to the standing performance of your existing Hard-Drive. This is achieved through dynamic storage, allocating frequently used files to your pre-existing Hard Drive and caching any large file before it is written to the TarDisk. With these processes occurring in the background, the user experience is seamless. PLUG-AND-Play: Slide TarDisk into the side of your MacBook computer and you are done. No tools necessary for installation or removal and no effect on existing AppleCare. TarDisk is the worlds first plug-and-play Hybrid Drive: a Semi-Permanent Storage Expansion Drive. SUPPORTS: This TarDisk supports any 15” Retina Display unibody-aluminum MacBook Pro with an SDXC port. Confirm that your computer has a 15” retina display or use the below model identifiers: 15” MacBook Pro Retina: MacBookPro11,215” MacBook Pro Retina: MacBookPro11,315” MacBook Pro Retina: MacBookPro11,415” MacBook Pro Retina: MacBookPro11,5 Please be aware, that for the ‘older’ 15” Retina MacBookPro 10,1 you will require a different TarDisk; R15A

Made my MacBook Pro's hard drive a Fusion Drive preventing the use of the T.M. backup.

*by M***✨ on Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2018*

In anticipation of the Tar Disk arrive I made a copy of my hard drive (MacBook Pro 2014 retina) and a carbon copy® of it as well. I rebooted, put in the disk and awaited my instructions."You cannot use this TarDisk on a hard drive that has been partitioned" (paraphrasing). A little freaked because I know the process is hard to reverse and I never partitioned my hard drive (I suspected it was Apple's place to put the restore disk). So I wrote tech support and a very responsive Luiz writes back that it's a High Sierra glitch and I should follow these very detailed instructions to the letter and we can fix the problem. He was standing by and he did. I managed to get into terminal and delete the problem files. Now I was ready for the back up to TimeMachine.Plugged the external hard drive into the side of the pro, rebooted holding the r key where I selected Restore from Time Machine backup. I was then given this notice This disk can't be used to reinstall this backup of an APFS system because the disk is not an SSD". It goes on to suggest I reinstall the OS and use migration assistance.I wrote Luiz who said I "In that case, you need to quit the Restore from Time Machine and reinstall your OS. See if you can downgrade it to Sierra, Yosemite or El Capitan, so we can upgrade to High Sierra after that."Retsored to Yosemite -- Same Message. So Here's the deal, And I wish they would make this clear. In my instance, (I don't have an altered computer in any way) the Tar Disk turned my hard drive into a fusion drive and apparently Mac treats Fusion drives very differently and since it is now turned into a Fusion drive, it can't read the old hard drive that I used to put Time Machine on.I wrote tech-support and basically got some instructions on how to un-pear the system but I didn't want to because I did get an increase of 128 hundred GB and when I think about it that's not that much. Did be at his of the tar disc is that it does allow you to have more space without the extra equipment such as an external hard drive. You are however giving up the SD card slot. After about two days I was done moving files and downloading previously purchased applications. I don't mind having to do a clean slate and it was useful to have the time machine backup because I could still plug that in to the MacBook and find files and folders that I needed. But two days is a long time to simply add hundred and 28 GB of memory. And the additional 256 GB is a tad expensive at just under $400.I know I have the option of returning the tar disc and on pairing it but it did give me the extra space I needed and now I can make a time machine backup with the fusion Drive. That will require, however, the purchase of a new hard drive because I don't want to overwrite the old Time Machine because of the files I may need. So TAR disk does expand your hard drive but you give up the SD slot permanently. If it seems worth it to you then you won't mind the extra hard drive space. Everything has been working fine and to tell you the truth, I know I could return it but the thought of reversing what I just did isn't very appealing. If I were shopping for one of these I would want to know about the fusion drive issue and the fact that Time Machine back up won't work. I was surprised at the lack of conversation about this but then maybe I am the exception and not the rule.In the end, I was able to use my Time Machine manually. All the files were there I just had to open them and drag them onto my Mac book Pro. The process wasn't a catastrophe from me because I made a Time Machine backup and the carbon copy clone so I knew I could get my files if I needed them. Downloading old software programs, keeping some off the computer, and the process of having to ask myself if I really want this program back, gave me the feeling of a general overall clean up of this and MacBook Pro.

So far so good on the TarDisk

*by T***P on Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2016*

So far so good on the TarDisk. I have a MacBook Pro with 256gig ssd. I kept running low on disk space but didn't want to spring for the 256gig TarDisk. I got the 128GB and it works great. No noticeable difference with speed. This was a great purchase!

    Solves the Problem

*by W***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2015*

I needed some headroom - always bumping up against the capacity of my 512GB SSD on late 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina. There's no other way I know of to effectively increase the capacity - or upgrade - the internal drive. The TarDisk elegantly solved my problem. Easy installation and very quick & effective product support.
