Cook Brothers should be ALL of our book boyfriends!
I'm mad at myself for taking so long to finish this book. This book is currently free on Amazon (as of 10/4/22) and book one through five are on Spotify! Not part of the audio-books feature that Spotify just added, just look up BJ Harvey and you'll find them! All of the narrators did a fantastic job, *chef's kiss*.Okay enough about the audio-books! LOL I was really glad to read this since I had already listened to it, it really made me love the Cook brothers even more. This first book starts off with Jamie and April, Jamie took a risk, left his job to start house flipping. April is his neighbor with an adorable son named Axel. The story follows how they learn to let themselves go with a new person and how they fall in love and become a family. Both characters are sassy, witty and very relatable. Yes it's a fiction rom-com, but I felt like this is a love story that could happen to anyone. Harvey did a great job with the character development and I really appreciate how she made this book's timeline. I don't know if I said that right lol But I liked how this book was a span of a few months. Yeah I'd say it was basically a love at first time of thing, but Harvey gave us more than just the beginnings of a love at first time romance! And that is what I LOVE. I want the mundane moments between the two love interests, it makes it feel more real to me! There were some spicy scenes, so keep that in mind, but I'd say they were like a three out of five? I don't really know how to rate spice LOLI don't have anything bad to say about this, only that I'm now wanting to read all the others ones and wouldn't mind have the full collection in physical book form! I will also be re-listening to all the audio-books now and probably reviewing them as well because Cook Brothers. If you read them, you get it. They are swoon worthy!

Divine rom-com that made me beyond happy!
Work in Progress is the delightful start to this Cook County series. This tale of Jamie Cook and the woman who would turn his world upside down and around simply made me happy! BJ Harvey once again gives us characters who can't help but be wonderful while finding a rightful place in our hearts. As Jamie treads lightly with his neighbor April while rehabbing a home right next to hers, it is just a matter of time before these two find themselves falling for the other while on a journey filled with the very best in humor, affection and joy. What I love most about this book is that Jamie and his irresistible family may kid each other a ton but they always have each other's backs. These are not super alpha men. On the contrary, they are wildly sexy when necessary yet have big hearts and know the right thing to say when one is having some trouble. With Jamie having his share of issues with the very determined, very feisty April, those crazy brothers of his provide the right amount of advice and understanding. And that right there is what makes them even more attractive.April is a great character and I adored her for her independence and wisdom in knowing that Jamie could very well be the man for her even when she fought her feelings early on. Her son Axel is the ultimate scene stealer and it's no wonder he became an honorary Cook long before his Mom fell for Jamie. Harvey's wicked humor shines through that little boy's words and he not only kept me entertained but every person he came into contact with in this book had a hard time resisting his charm. And OMG...Jamie's parents. Those two have the whole 'embarrassing our adult children with our info about our naughty trysts' act down pat. They are frisky and fun and add the perfect touch to an already fabulous time.BJ Harvey continues to create divine storylines that not only warm the soul but add that swoon factor that is beyond addictive. Watching as Jamie and April go outside their comfort zones in order to feel love again is exactly the kind of romance I can't get enough of. It's sweet and touching with just the right amount of passion. There is no extraneous nonsense to bog the story down. Just the story of a man and a woman who find they can't live without each other and find the love they deserve. You can't get much better than that!5 solid stars!

Well written. Classic style.
This is a nice little stress free romance novel. Everything is in order, the editing well done, too.I nearly gave it three stars. It's lacking in oomph. No conflict, just a steady little HEA. Meh. For me, too vanilla. It falls a bit short and flat.

Books like this give me a sore head.
So started off ok.....then I got confused coz so many character's introduced with too much info on each that it was distracting. I understand wanting to lay the groundwork for other books but don't distract from the story.Sometimes I felt pieces of the story were missing, like the author thought about what to write but just forgot to write it. Example: axle and his mom (omg just finished reading & already forgot main character name!!!!) too many characters does that!!! - anyway they go to Jamie's house to help him work and there standing talking in his living room and next thing (in the same paragraph) there outside talking and it a week later?????? Also ot was confusing when more than 2 people where involved in a conversation coz she seemed to forget to tell you who was talking?Don't mind sex scenes - don't mind if there's no sex scenes - this book however had just one sex scene that lasted about 20 pages and was just an uncomfortable read. The womans son (still cnnt remember her name? ) is supposed to be 6 but speaks like hes at least 12 at times. The book seemed to reach its end at about 80% but just kept going and the whole thing was just flat. No real substance or main story point, so felt alot of things just repeated to fill the book.

OK
This is an easy read without any drama or angst. It revolves around two neighbours who want to do the best they can for themselves and those they love. The first meeting between Jamie and April is unusual, but the instant attraction between them is apparent. Jaime has an impressive family. They are there for each other despite the fact that they like rubbing each other the wrong way at every opportunity. The romance is slowly developed and endearing. Little Axel is typical six year old. It's an interesting story.

A SWEET NEIGHBOUR ROMANCE
A sweet neighbor romance. While I enjoyed Work in progress that's all I can say about it really. It's a sweet neighbor romance.Jamie buys a house to renovate and sell in the process he meets his neighbor and they get to know each other and eventually fall in love.No drama, no angst just a heartfelt romance with likable characters. My first book by this author, I think if I am to read more books from this author I would need just a little bit more to keep me turning the pages. While a normal no dramas romance read is nice it's just that to me, a nice read.

A sweet story that could have turned sour.
Jamie is determined to get his new business up and running, and with the help of his brother's he's on his way.April is a nurse who works long shifts, but luckily has her ex mother in law living with her to help out with looking after her son. With loud noises commuting from next door she makes her way there to find a gorgeous looking man with a filthy mouth trying to stem the blood running from his hand. This is truly a Rom Com Romance.
