Her best yet
This book is completely different from every other Steel novel I've read. Twin boys are complete opposites, one the wild child who leaves town as soon as he is finished with college. HIs childhood was not idyllic as nearly everyone thought he was stupid (he was actually dyslexic) and because of his educational frustrations that resulted from his disorder, he didn't do well in school. Diagnosed in college, he overcomes and excels in his career until the financial crash of 2008 causes him to lose his job and all his wealth. Returning to his hometown to live in the only place he owned outright, he reunites with his twin brother who had inherited everything their parents had, including the love and respect of the other townspeople. While there he becomes involved in the investigation initiated by his nephew who believes his father is slowly killing his mother. Yes, his father is the well respected medical doctor brother who was the good son. What I liked about this book is that it is so far removed from Steel' regular offerings. We don't see women who are beautiful, brainy and successful but who has a penchant for falling into bed with a new romantic interest almost before she's met him. This is more of a mystery rather than a romance novel and it was refreshing to see this from the author. It almost is as if she didn't actually write it.

Ugly mean people do exist.
It is terrible to hear or even think that people this mean even exist in today's world. I much approve of ending.

This one is worth the read
I am more and more convinced that Danielle Steel does not write all her own books any more. The previous two I had read were absolutely awful-Second Chances and Big Girl. They were two of the worst books I have ever read.it was like someone was trying to copy her writing style but not doing it well. This book was a refreshing change. The plot was interesting and not what I expected. I enjoyed reading it. I had decided I was not going to read any thing else by this author because of my past experience, but now I don’t know. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the ending drops off a little bit. It wraps up quickly and I wished she would have fleshed it out a little more. But that is true with a lot of books I find. This one is worth the read.

Another good Danielle Steele book
Lots of twists and turns but a great feel good story. Predictable but a good read. Really summed up everything by the end of the story

Another entertaining read by Danielle Steel
I turn to Danielle Steel when I want to read a light read after reading many more literary pieces of work; and lately Ms. Steel has not disappointed me. Her last several books have been good and she appears to have returned to writing entertaining stories with a nice message. I liked this book because it was not a typical love story and it dealt with men - two twin brothers: one good, one evil. The tale of these brothers is believable and is suspenseful. A love story exists but it takes a back seat to a most intriguing read. I would recommend this book to all who want a nice two day read and who enjoy good storytelling by an author who constantly delivers.

Who was the Prodigal Son? Read and find out!
Other than Danielle Steel repeating herself quite often (something she does in most of her books nowadays) I thought the book was excellent. You really didn't know what was going to happen and next, nor were you completely sure about who the 'good' guy was or 'bad' guy was. After Peter lost everything he had because of that disastrous stock market crash in 2008 which affected so many, he found his wife, loved him for his money only. THere really weren't a lot of surprises, until the very end when you find out who was really the 'bad' twin. It was a bit obvious that something was wrong when everyone was saying how much they loved Michael. You were sure that couldn't go on forever. But it did keep you there until the last page of the book, when the ugly truth was confirmed. Like I said, not many surprises, but the book was well written and was a good read.

Prodigal son by Danielle Steele
What can you say about Danielle Steele books? Apart from the fact that it seems repetitive at times (which has often made me wonder if there isn't a ghost writer alongside), her stories are always good - and this story line certainly is that. For Danielle Steele lovers this is excellent -for others it's quite a good story to read. Maureen Rowland-Aitken, johannesburg, South Africa
