Forest Gander's work is difficult, but if you let your mind make the connection between the lines that seemingly go in different directions you find that breathless center that lies behind everyday life.His Haibun captured the humor of travel and the pathos of poverty.This book was a good read

Gander’s discursive writing before Be With, for which he received the Pulitzer. A focus on darkness, primal events, travel. An extended journal. A few outstanding very concrete poems. Some generous and some ferocious imagery. Disturbing and maybe enlightening.

This poetry belongs to the 21sr century-- it is hybrid and urgent. Best book I've read all year.

Excellent book by Pulitzer Prize winner Forrest Gander. Personal, heart wrenching, brutal reality.

Having never read Gander before, I discovered an excitingly beautiful, and beautifully exciting, quiet world overflowing from between the covers. I found myself exposed to a beauty that inspires long pauses for reflection.

For me, this doesn’t pass for poetry.Gander’s style is carefree, sloppy, with too much deliberate jumbling, too many unleashed phrases, and too many lonely words.Core Samples from the World has nothing elegant that I could find. of my book reviews hererichardsubber.com Read more
