Do you have to detach the tank to use the hose?

Not at all. You can use the hose while attached to the whole vacuum, but for higher up spaces I would recommend detaching the tank and holding it as you vacuum. The hose isn’t super long.

can you turn off the power fins when vacuuming hard floors?

Yes you can. The hard floor setting on the handle stops the power fin roller and increases suction. That with the soft roller is awesome on hard floors.

Can you turn odor neutralizer off?

If you don't want the odor neutralizer feature, think about ordering the model that does not include that feature. I have the model without the odor neutralizer, and it is certainly the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned!

How does the Roller work on carpet and can I lift the roller up

The roller works great on carpet. No you cannot lift the roller up.
