Really fun and went a L O N G way :-)
I'm a total beginner when it comes to Shibori dying. I studied up on it through Pinterest posts and it was a huge success. I bought all cotton painters tarps from Amazon and soaked them in bleach for 8 hours then rinse and washed them. It made a lovely linen like material. Then I did my dying. When the tarps were all dyed and dried I made porch swing covers and pillows for the porch as well. This little kit has everything you might need to do basic dying but because I wanted to do two Shibori dye techniques I used rope (Arashi Shibori) and also a PVC pipe (for pole wrapping) and twine. The instructions are really well written and they even give you a short version and a detailed version along with the history of indigo blue dying.I used a 5 gallon bucket with a lid to do the dying. I was able to dye for 3 days but the best results were on the first day.I prepared my projects, soaked and squeezed them out first. I stirred the vat as directed and hand scooped the bloom foam stuff off to one side of the vat. I was able to dye several things at once being careful not to let them touch the bottom of the bucket where they might get undissolved dye on them. I just held them for 5 minutes while they were in the dye bath (you might get yourself a little chair to sit on for the long 5 minutes). Once they were dyed 3-4 times with a 20 minute oxygenating process between the dye baths I then let then took off the wrappings and spread them on the grass to dry. Once dried I put them in the washing machine and on the rinse cycle then ran them through a wash cycle. I did 3- 6 x 9 foot drop cloths, several t shirts, a white sheet and 2 dresses. I could have dyed a lot more. It really dyes a lot and the results are fantastic just be sure you only dye cotton fabrics. If it has polyester in it it won't take the dye. I just poured the unused dye on the grass and it didn't even show or hurt the grass at all.It was so much fun!!!Well with the $$$

Easy and fun
This is a great kit, we dyed a bunch of items!! Really easy to use and super fun! We did buy some extra rubber bands because we knew we were doing a lot of tie dye.

Worked fine
We bought this in order to tie-dye some cotton napkins. It worked very well, the color is quite nice, and we have managed to tie dye 13 napkins, one T-shirt, one apron, and a couple of socks without running out of dye. There is more dye left and we will finish off a couple more T-shirts today. We pretty much failed to follow the directions in terms of mixing and dyeing the napkins, but it didn't cause any problems. We dumped the ingredients into the bucket in a random order, then stirred and let sit for about an hour. Then we dyed the napkins and things for 8 minutes and immediately put them into a water bucket with a little detergent. Finally, we hung them out to dry over night, though they actually were still wet in the morning. Anyway, when we finally washed everything, very little dye came out; I imagine they'll fade a little more over time, but the indigo color is nonetheless pretty strong and more or less the color we wanted the napkins to be.The kit came with some wood blocks, popsicle sticks, and rubber bands. I'd recommend getting more rubber bands, and also maybe binder clips — those were fun to play with to get some neat patterns. The booklet inside had detailed instructions, as well as a short history of indigo dyeing, which was very interesting.

LOVE it!
LOVED this. This was my first try using indigo & shibori dying. I suggest using a dust mask when mixing the dye - it's pretty strong..and also continues to smell :P The only issue I had was that a 'bloom' never developed on my dye. I mixed properly, then waited in increments of 30min for up to 2 hours and still no bloom. All I had was an oil like film. I was worried about the dye not working, but decided to give it a shot anyway. I gently pushed the film aside to access the dye beneath. It worked wonderfully!!I dyed 10 pillow cases and 4 shirts with one vat. I probably could've gotten some more out of it, but was out of fabric & could tell that the dye was weakening at this point. I used a ton of techniques for binding...some from the included booklet and others from web sources like Honestly WTF ( http://honestlywtf.com/diy/shibori-diy/ ) - one of my absolute favorites is the Kumo pleat & bind - comes out with a cool spidery effect. My results were fabulous and the fabric color came out as a dark denim blue with just one dying (manipulating under the dye for about 1-2min) and after washing and drying. The results of indigo dye are so much more beautiful than a regular 'tie-dye' would be.You have to see for yourself! I'm definitely a believer and will probably turn into the 'weird indigo lady', I love it so much. Some tips I would give is to make sure your work station is protected. I dyed in my bathroom and had some trouble removing the stains from my bathtub (had to use bleach, unfortunately). Also, buy some tall kitchen gloves. The small gloves that come with the kit aren't appropriate for handling your fabric under the surface of the dye - you need taller gloves! The dye does wash off skin pretty easily, though I can still see some blue around my nails one day later.I will definitely buy again - I'd love to do a set of bed sheets!

fun and easy introduction to indigo
This kit was easy to use and came equipped with everything you would need. This was my first time using indigo, but the friend I did it with had done it before several times. We had about 15-20 items we were dying including some large pieces of fabric. We wanted to dye the items several times to ensure a deep colour. We only got about 3 dips in before the dye exhausted itself. Nevertheless the deepness of colour we got was really nice. Very happy with the results!Binding your items is what takes longest! This was a 2 day activity with the binding of all the items and the dying process. We took it easy though. The other thing that should be mentioned is this process is v messy and requires a lot of water especially for the rinsing portion. You really want to do this outside and access to a hose is ideal.
