Bought these to get a good understanding of pH, nitrates, alkalinity, etc for a pond I recently built and am adding goldfish and koi. I have not taken a pond sample to a lab to compare accuracy of what I'm seeing on the strips but I assume they're accurate (or at least in the ballpark). Two seconds in the water and 30 seconds to read the result has really helped me understand what treatment I needed to add to get pH and Total Hardness down a bit.

This test kit was completely unreliable. After one of my small koi fish died, I bought it to check my pond’s water quality. When I tested with this kit, it showed no alkalinity and a pH below 6, with a dark orange color. Alarmed, I added baking soda, but the pH reading stayed low. I then bought a pH increaser, but after 24 hours, it still showed the same low reading. Just before adding more of the pH increaser, I decided to try another brand of test kit. I ended up ordering two more kits from Amazon, and to my shock, both showed a pH close to 9! By then, my fish were visibly stressed and hiding. This kit almost led to disaster with my koi. I’ve now spent over $100 on multiple test kits and pH products, and will probably need to spend even more to lower the pH back down. Unbelievable! The pictures show the test results after a 25% water change—the pH is still high, but this test kit still reads orange!

I’m not sure I would trust this test strip. After several tests, each test showed high chlorine in my pond. It showed high enough chlorine to kill fish, but my fish are alive and well. Also, I noticed the dyes run into each other on the strip, creating discrepancies in results.
