There are more lead pencil sketches than there are full -color pictures. Those sketches are good. The full-color picture that are there are very good too.

I loved the Robotech shows as a kid. These book are a collection of art work from the series.

It needed more of the beautiful art used in Japanese books. Soft cover book and hard cover book for collectors. Should try Megazone 23 1,2 and 3 and use the Japanese book Art of Megazone book 1&2. Bumblegum Crisis series, Gall Force series etc

This is a one-of-a-kind document containing design drawings that have never been published in Japan.Thirty-seven years after the release of the This is the animation series number 10 : "Super Dimension(-al ) Cavalry Southern Cross Special Guidebook ," the one and only Japanese language resource aside from magazine articles, the first complete collection of aired episodes was released in the US, albeit an adaptation of the second generation of Robotech.The book follows an editorial policy similar to the series of the name is "Romance albums" of former Tokuma Books anime series: an episode guide for each episode, setting pictures (characters from the planet Glorie, and the Zor or Tirolian side), and mecha's design line- drawings (unpublished designs and early concept sketches from "Studio Ammonite") .What is particularly noteworthy is that the guidebook does not contain any information on the Zor (Tirolian) side.In particular, since the guidebook was published right after the broadcast of the series, it only contains the contents up to duration of episode 03 , while this book covers the design drawings of the entire series.However, it is unfortunate that the original design drawings of the "Super Dimensionn(-al) Cavalry Southern Cross", including the cityscape and other art settings, are omitted from the book because the limited number of pages includes all of Robotech's episodes and Robotech's original setting drawings.In addition, the English translation of the commentary by studio UDON is riddled with misrepresentations of the design drawings and aircraft, especially with regard to the mechanical design.As other reviewers have written, I hope that the errors in the design drawings that were omitted in the first edition will be corrected and compensated for by publishing a second edition.It is frustrating to have to read in English the original blueprints, which have never been published in Japan, but I still believe that the value of the blueprints, which are published only in this reference book, is worth reading even with a dictionary, even for non-native English speaking readers.

This is the second volume of Udon Entertainment's take on the visual art of the Robotech trilogy, covering plenty of information on Southern Cross's story chapters, characters and mecha.This book, together with volumes 1 (The Macross Saga) and3 (Genesis Climber Mospeada), is indeed a better source for fans of the classic anime trilogy than the Robotech Art books published by Starblaze Editions back in the mid-1980s.I will highly recommend it to anybody interested in Robotech or in the original Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross series.

Excellent looking collection of early concept illustrations & diagrams to the actual material used for the innovative animated series.Great series synopsis of all episodes & background material.Must own for anyone interested in 80’s breakthru animation series.

アニメ雑誌記事を除けば唯一無二の日本語の作品単独資料である 超時空騎団サザンクロス スペシャル・ガイドブック から37年後の2021年、翻案版であるアメリカ合衆国のロボテック『第二世代篇』（マスターズ篇）ではありますが、全景放映話数を完全収録した本としては初の資料本が発売されました。この本は、かつてのアニメ「ロマンアルバム」に似た編集方針、つまり各話のエピソードガイド、設定画(登場人物：惑星グロリエ側→ ゾル人側)、登場メカデザインの設定画〔スタジオ「アンモナイト」による未公開デザイン画、初期構想段階のスケッチ画ほか〕で構成されています。特に重要なのは1984年当時のガイドブックが本放送直後に出版された為、概ね第3話までのデザイン画しか掲載されていないのに対して、シリーズ全23話に関する全ての話数に対する決定稿のデザイン線画を掲載対象にしている点です。しかしながらページ数の制約、特にロボテック版の前夜祭を含む全話解説とロボテックシリーズ独自の新規作画の設定画を掲載しなければならないため、原作「超時空騎団サザンクロス」の日本原作デザイン画のうち、主力可変戦闘機「オーロラン」の降着装置〔首脚と主脚〕操縦計器盤〔正面及び側面〕、美術設定画（街並み、喫茶店、ピアノラウンジ、ゾル人の遺跡）等の大半が省略されているのが残念です。加えて編集部である「スタジオUDON」による原典の日本語から英文に翻訳された解説は原文の日本語が消去されているのは発行国の特性上仕方ないとしても、特にメカデザインに関してデザイン画と機体の解説か誤って付されている箇所が複数回も散見されます。他のレビュアーの方も書いてますが、これらの間違いを訂正すると共に、今回の初版にて掲載が漏れたデザイン画に対しては改訂版としての第二版を出版することで是非とも補完してほしく思います。「日本未公開の原作のデザイン画」を、原文の日本語が消去された後の英語解説文で読むしかない状況は歯がゆくもありますが、それでもなお、この資料本のみに掲載がされたデザイン画の価値は日本人として英語を辞書引きしながらでも読み解きする価値があると思います。 超時空騎団サザンクロス スペシャル・ガイドブック
