Triple display with extended monitors on new Macbook M1 works perfectly
I just got the new Macbook Air with M1 chip that unfortunately only supports a single extended display natively. I have a dual external monitor in the office, and I needed a usb c hub that supports them. I found this product at a very good price, and I’m glad I bought it.The packaging is just a small brown box with minimal branding, nothing fancy. Inside the box are the usb c hub, a carrying pouch, and user guide. I have used DisplayLink before, and knowing that this usb c hub supports display link, I immediately downloaded the drivers and installed them first. Once I connected my monitors to the usb c hub, they were both detected instantly, but the resolution is a little off. I have to adjust the resolution manually to get the native displays of 3440x1440 and 1920x1080 on 2 monitors. After just a few seconds I now have triple displays with extended mode. It is recommended to have the USB C PD power plugged in to avoid draining the battery too fast as driving 2 extended monitors takes a lot of power. In terms of lag, I could hardly notice any lag on regular multitasking with productivity apps. I can watch a video on one screen, while do some office work on 2 other screens and responsiveness is snappy. The USB 3.0 ports are good to have, I plugged in the wireless USB receiver of my keyboard and mouse, and this hub now acts like a docking station. With just one cable to my Macbook, I’m ready to work with all my peripherals already connected. I use the SD Card reader from time to time, and it’s hard to tell if it is slower than using a dedicated sd card reader. I only transfer at most a hundred 24 megapixel photos at a time and it just takes a couple of seconds. The headphone jack is good to have to connect to a dedicated speaker, but I prefer using Bluetooth headphones as I don’t want to bother anybody in the office.Overall, I am very impressed with this product. I will admit that I was skeptical at first as the other similar products that are bulky and less portable are around $150 and above, but after using this product for heavy productivity and multitasking, I can say I can highly recommend this product.

Will Work for 2 Months
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I use a dual monitor setup with Macbook Air M1 and the lid closed almost 100% of the time. This works most of the time - I am usually able to sleep/wake the laptop from my external keyboard and mouse, and it will automatically wake in dual-monitor mode. There is a bug where the display will flicker on and off or between 1 and 2 screens, or my accessories will turn off. In these cases I have to unplug my laptop from the dock and restart the DisplayLink software, then it works fine.Pros:- When it works, it works pretty well.- It's compact, which is nice for limited desk space- It will work in clamshell mode- Virtually no lag. Not a gamer, but it works fine for me (a college student who codes a lot)Cons:- It gets pretty hot. I actually stuck some heat sinks on the top of mine to help it cool down a little. Not sure if that made a difference other than making me feel better.- It works a solid 90% of the time. I kind of wish that were closer to 100%. Maybe it's better with products that are actually meant for dual display - I understand that the M1 Mac / DisplayLink setup is kind of a hack.- If you move the laptop while plugged in (causing the input to wiggle), the display will disconnect. It's very sensitive. This is not much of an issue for me personally, but it is something to consider.********* EDIT*************I have now had this dock for a couple of months, and it completely stopped working. I read other reviews saying the same thing before I bought it, and I should have heeded the warning.Even after restarting the DisplayLink software, unplugging/re-plugging the dock, etc., it has ceased to function. This is not a lasting product, and I would recommend saving your money for something that will last. Take my word for it.

Perfect for MacBook M1 or M2
There are a bunch of docking stations on Amazon at many price points but if you want to use 2 external monitors with a MacBook Air M1 or M2, this is the one you want. The thing that sets it apart is the support for DisplayPort, which allows you to connect multiple monitors in Extended Mode, i.e., show different things on each monitor. Many products (and even Apple) say this is not possible--DON'T BELIEVE IT! This device does it well.My only gripes are: 1) It's much more expensive than other docking stations (but they can't handle Extended Mode), and 2) when you position a window across 2 monitors it only shows on one, cutting off at the edge of thee screen. I believe this is a glitch in the driver software that I'm hoping will be fixed eventually, but it doesn't bother me much.*** Added Information ***I've now had this for a year and a half, using it pretty much every day and here are a few more observations.1. It does get hot, but that doesn't seem to affect operation. I found a way to sort of hang it from the side of my M1 without straining the cord. This ensures air flow all around it.2. It has not failed at all.3. The manufacturer updated the software a few months ago which fixed a nagging problem where it occasionally didn't recognize one of my 2 external monitors.4. The problem I described above still exists--you cant have a window span across 2 monitors. It cuts off the end. Not a huge problem for me, but somewhat annoying. All in all, I'd buy it again.

Works great with MacBook Air M1
It works great. I'm using 2 external monitors and needed to download the specific driver from the product user manual (just going to DisplayLink website separately did not work). Once the driver added to my Mac, the setup works great however when using the passthrough charging, the hub gets heated pretty quick (hot to the touch). My review would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the heating... not a big issue for me but might for others.
