It is real wild rice AND it is probably paddy-grown, because "wild rice" is the common name of the species, not a descriptor of its habitat. You're more likely to get wild-grown wild rice from Canadian producers, but you'd need to verify the specific source.

I have no idea. I dont believe it is sprayed with chemicals. Maybe its the bag it comes packed in. I for one pay no attention to the prop 65 warnings as they seem to be put on absolutely everything. I have eaten wild rice for more than 20 years with no adverse effects. This is the best on the market as far as I am concerned. Mark

It says "Minnesota Grown." I take that to mean cultivated. I have been on a year's long search for wild rice that is actually wild and can no longer find any. There was a company in rural MN that I bought from for many years that sold real wild, wild rice (actually a grass). The grains I got from them were nearly an inch long. The grain length described for this product is almost certainly cultivated. As far as I know much cultivated wild rice is grown in MN and Canada but some comes from other places. The traditional growing regions produce the best product.

Q: What is the carbohydrate/sugar content? Could it be used for brewing or distilling?

A half cup serving has 16 grams of carbs and .60 grams of sugar. Wild rice is actually considered a whole grain and not a rice. It just looks and cooks like rice, therefore the name. I dont know if you could brew with it. It is considered 75% carbohydrates according to the data I have read. It is very tasty mixed with mushrooms and onions. Mark
