They are like the ones at my son’s doctors office. Thicker like spaghetti. The fiber optic lights are nice and change slowly from one color to the next. The unit does not come housed in a box where you could just unpack it and let your child play with it. You will need to purchase or build something for the unit so it can come out of a wall or hang down. We are placing this in a protective box built onto a corner rounded low seating area that I will pad with sturdy foam and cover with vinyl. Will place a bubble lamp beside it and non glass mirror behind. This was purchased for a sensory room and my son loves it.
