Merrell Delivers Again for Wet Trail Use
Merrell has long been one of my favorite boot brands. When I started browsing for a pair of shoes or boots suited for warm-weather wade fishing, Merrell was one of the first places I checked, and they did not disappoint. -Fit & Wearability: I pair these with a sock liner and quality synthetic socks (check my other reviews), so I sized up half a size and got a perfect fit. On or off trail, wet or dry, these shoes are both comfortable and secure. -Traction & Water Performance: These double as trail shoes and water shoes, and Merrell nailed the traction. Whether on dry trails or slick creek stones, the grip holds up. The low-cut ankle offers great range of motion and keeps them lightweight, though you'll trade off some ankle support compared to full boots. They also drain efficiently and dry quickly while still offering the structure and durability of a proper trail shoe. -Style: They’re nearly identical in appearance to my Moab 2s (which I’ve used and loved for years). I bought these for function, not fashion, but they actually look pretty good too (opinion). Overall, I am very impressed with these hybrid water/trail shoes. If you plan on doing creek crossings, wade fishing, or just need breathable, fast drying footwear for hot weather hikes, these are a fantastic option. I wear these any time I wade or fish for hours at a time, and they have held up to the abuse without getting my feet chewed up or weighing me down, not sure I could ask for better.

Great Quality but Wrong Shoe for My Purposes
I purchased these for a canyoning trip at Kawasan Falls in the Philippines (beautiful and extremely fun trip that I highly recommend) but I found out rather quickly that they were wrong for the intended purpose. First, lets talk about why these are great water shoes. Even Superman has one weakness and mine just happens to be the bottom of my feet, which are very sensitive to pain when I step on things like pointy rocks, Legos, etc. While planning for the trip and watching some videos of those who have gone before, I knew that I would need to plan on having a pair of water shoes that would decrease the potential of pain while walking over stones of varying sizes so after reading the reviews I went with these. The size was true to my standard shoe size, and I was really impressed by the quality of the shoe for the prince (I paid $69.99 for mine, but I see they went up in price recently). The waxy coating on leather gives them a rugged look and solid feel while the neoprene collar keeps your foot nice and snug. The sole on these suckers is hard! I didn't feel any discomfort caused by stepping on stones through the sole during the 2 hour canyoning excursion and would highly recommend these as great shoes for hiking when stream crossings are required. Note the end of my last sentence: "... I would highly recommend these as great shoes for hiking when stream crossings are required" because honestly I wouldn't recommend these for canyoning. In fact, the constant immersion of my feet in water softened my skin and the hardness of the sole gave me two of the worst blisters I have had in my life right on the ball of my feet. Our guide had opted for and even offered us anti-slip diving boots, but we turned them down because we had our own shoes, and hindsight being 20/20 I should have noticed and mimicked the seasoned professional rather than thinking I knew better. The other reason why I regretted my choice is because while the soles were fantastic at gripping the dry portions of our trek as well as protecting my sensitive soles, the hardness of the sole did not help out with the slipperiness of the constantly emerged stones. At times it seemed like I was trying to walk on ice with how often I slipped on the algae coated stones and I'm positive that having a more flexible sole designed for constant immersion would have been much better suited to the canyoning adventure. So in sum, I learned my lesson the hard way but these will still be amazing summer hiking shoes on trails that I know cross streams. With a little breaking in I also anticipate that the soles will be come a little more broken in and increase the grip potential, but I will update this review later if that isn't the case once I get an opportunity to test the theory!

Best multi-purpose shoes I've owned so far.
I love, love, LOVE these shoes. This will be my second pair in something like 10 years. The first pair took me for over a month in Tahiti and have been everywhere in between since about 2017. I got them originally because I wanted something hikable that would dry quickly as our trip in Tahiti found us on a boat for 2 weeks. I also wanted them to double as water shoes that would do a little more than sandals to keep rocks and gravel out. After that trip they've been out numerous times camping, fishing, and vacationing in other places and have performed very faithful service as an everyday shoe because of their comfort. I Love these shoes. They're definitely a very good mixture of just the right amount of lots of things for me. For my lifestyle they're like a sport utility shoe. Does lots of things well but nothing perfect. Regardless the trade offs are all more than tolerable and beat the pants off of most shoes I've purchased in the past to do one or two things. -First, they perform as a workable water shoe. They will stay a little wet but I haven't had many problems getting them to dry after about a day in the sun. Even when wet they don't stay soaking or sopping wet for long. -I would very easily trust them for hiking and backpacking for long periods of time. Although, I haven't done much of that with them yet I imagine some waterproof socks and wicking socks would complete the ensemble to make these very comfortable thru trip gear. -The comments about them letting in sand is true. Sand yes, rocks NO! I can tolerate a little sand in my shoes but stepping on gravel or sharp shells can screw up your whole day. They kept the big stuff out and that's what I really cared about. -They're very comfortable and light. Nothing overly supportive or gangly and tough to screw up your natural stride. Going on dayhikes are a dream. -Resilliant. These have been in the washer more than a few times. I must have worn them for thousands of walked miles now and they're holding up well. No delaminated rubber or anything unusual considering the amount of wear. The ONLY reason I'm buying another pair, in fact, is so that I have a reliable/fresher pair to take on longer hikes where I don't want to worry about a failure. In all seriousness, these have outlasted a few pairs of Catepillar steel toe workboots and a number of other pieces of footwear I use less frequently. They've been covered in cement, used to kick or push rocks, walked in for god knows how many steps, survived my disgusting foot smell, been washed and dried more than once and they're still in good shape and look decent enough to wear into town on weekends... Just amazing.

Great but limited hiker
I have been on the search for the perfect hiker for my feet for a few years now and stumbled on these by accident. I had developed plantar fasciitis in my feet over time, and found by another accident that I could keep the pain away by wearing no-rise shoes. Most of the shoes in that category are minimalist and make terrible hiking/backpacking shoes. The All-Out series of Merrell shoes feature a low rise (4mm I think?), which isn't perfect, but so much better than the tall rise on most other sporting shoes. Among other shoes, I purchased the standard version of the blaze and was fairly happy with it, though I would get blisters on the top of my feet after long treks because of the way they're sewn together. I had also picked up a pair of these simply because they were cheap (maybe $40 at the time) just to mess around with on the beach or what not. Well, I accidentally grabbed them for a backpacking trip, and the rest it history. Same fit, and beefy sole, but no awkward sewing job across the toes since it's all mesh. Oddly, I think these make for a pretty terrible water shoe. They don't drain particularly well, and they take forever to dry. They're moderately comfortable to hike in while wet, but they'll stay wet for a while. And not surprisingly, the mesh will let in all matter of dirt and fine particles, though I haven't found it particularly bad as others have. I recently took them down the sandy scree of Sawtooth Pass in SNF and didn't find that they took on more debris than any other shoe (vs boot). My feet though, under the socks, are a horrifying dark mess every time I pull these off - the downside of a mesh hiker. My only other gripe is with the grip. Traction is pretty good on wet surfaces, but anything with a touch of sand over rock is a nightmare. I now take hiking poles with me when I know the descents are going to be dusty or sandy so I can catch myself easier when these inevitably slip. But I take these trade-offs because I end up with a generally blister-free foot with little to no plantar fasciitis pain at the end of the day.

Best shoes I've EVER owned
I have massive feet. Imagine Shrek, shoe shopping, in the human village, but looking for ogre shoe sizes ;and that's about the best analogy for my plight with shoes. When I do find shoes in my size, they're rarely comfortable, have any version of arch support, and rarely do they have the aesthetics that I'm looking for. How I have missed out on Merrell shoes, all of these years, is beyond me. I was so impressed with this pair, that I went out and bought another pair of Merrell hiking shoes, the Accentor and they're just as wonderful. These all out blaze, looking stunning. They're very well made, extremely comfortable, to the point that other than having amazing foot support, they feel like invisible shoes, because it feels virtually weightless, like they aren't there. They're extremely tough, durable, and the mesh design makes your feet feel like there's always an AC turned on.i profusely sweat in all other shoes and not a single time had that occurred in these. They look great with my jeans, shorts, dressier attire, I can really use them for anything, but they excel in the woods, around rivers, hiking rocky outcrops.i haven't slipped or felt like I'm on uneven footing a single time. I don't get leg fatigue nearly as much as I used to either, that's the case with both these and the Accentor as well. Merrell is my new go to brand. I've never owned a more comfortable pair of shoes, that are made so ridiculously well. They'll be getting all of my money for shoes from now on. If you're on the fence about these shoes, don't be. They'll work for any occasion, go with any clothing, and you'll feel like your feet are being pampered, the entire time that you're wearing them.

No break in whatsoever. Ready to go out of the box! Great!
While I only received these today I immediately took a hike through varied terrain (I live in the country), I wanted to post review number one because one of the biggest issues I had was what the heck size to order once I had narrowed my choice down to this shoe.. It's unbelievable how many opinions there are... almost as many as the number of different feet out there! In a nutshell, I wear a 10 and I have a wide foot. I almost ordered a half size larger but that would have been a mistake. Fit perfectly right out of the box and adjusted wonderfully in that years ago I broke my ankle and my left foot is now a bit larger than my right foot. I got these to replace my worn Teva's. I have not previously had 'lace' type footwear, but it's great. I can totally adjust my left foot to an excellent comfort level. Unlike my Teva's (which I could adjust) it's not just a strap, it's the whole. So no pressure points as they are diffused. I read so many reviews on so many different products, and finally narrowed it down to these. I'm not a river guide, I travel a lot in Asia and I wanted highly ventilated footwear that I could wear all day, and if there's water so be it. I usually do a lot of city walking, but I have to say these vibram soles are amazing. I walked through gravel areas and was amazed at the ability of the vibram soles to absorb sharp rock. Walked down the asphalt driveway and experienced a comfortable support. In sum, unless something weird happens in India next month, I love these right out of the box. I've never had any arch issues so I don't know what to say about that. Order your size. Update: Had these for a while now and I LOVE THEM! I'm actually wearing them all day with socks as house shoes. The plan was to break them in before heading to Asia, but I could have worn these out of the box to Asia. I literally have these on 12 hours and then take them off without and residual feeling. They come off so easy with a toe push. They go on easily. As mentioned I have a wide foot so I leave them at full size, although for hiking I tighten them just a bit. Total comfort. After reviewing and agonizing over so many choices, I am happy to say this was as good as my choice could have been. No question... a great product. UPDATE: Back from India & Bangladesh. These are the only footwear I took on the trip. I also took one pair of socks (for wearing on the plane)... well, no surprise. They performed! Whether hiking down a rocky beach or through miles of urban Mumbai, they were comfortable all day. I travel with anti bacterial wipes so I would wipe them down and clean them every other day or so. Kept them nice and fresh. I suffer from Hot Feet syndrome, but not with these. Now that I'm back home, they are my house shoes again, wearing all day with socks. I'm not sure why several reviews mention that they run big. I wear a size 10 and have very wide and chubby feet. They fit perfectly with the size adjusting elastic left wide open! And they are so easy to take on and off. I love them. Every bit the 5 star product.

Must better than I expected. Very happy with them.
Long time Minimus guy here. Once again they stopped making them so I was looking for something close. Light, great traction, flexible, tactile, and tough. These do not disappoint. They're actually better on all metrics but weight but that's a very slight difference. I love that they're as flexible as they are without letting through the pokes and prods of tougher terrain, and the exterior materials seem like they'll hold up better. My only complaint is that the box is a little big for me. Big enough to make me think I could have gone down a half-size. I ordered the same size I wear in all my other Merrells and these seem a smidge big, but not enough to be a problem. All that remains to be seen is how they hold up to life on our mountain, but I love them so far.

Comfortable and breathable hiking shoe. Great for river crossings.
Bought these shoes to go hiking the Narrows in Zion NP. I wanted something with a very open and breathable design versus a semi to fully waterproof design that I see most people go for when hiking the Narrows. These shoes really fit the bill nicely. They were extremely comfortable to wear all day long, in the water and out of the water. My feet did not feel sore after an entire day hiking. They also have excellent grip both in water and in the dry as well. The best part about these shoes is that they are extremely breathable with all the mesh windows it has. I wore them barefoot all day while hiking the Narrows because I hate dealing with wet and soggy socks. After walking in the river all day long and then getting out and walking for about 30 minutes on dry land, they seemed to dry up very nicely, although to fully dry them took much longer obviously. And the best part about it, the odor free sole really is odor free! I dried the shoes up over a camp fire and they did not smell rancid at all. I have done this multiple times now, not just in Zion. BIG plus in my books. What I love about these shoes is that they look just like any other tennis shoe. You can wear these hiking or just casually while walking around town. They make great shoes to wear when it's hot out because of how breathable they are. Your feet really stay cool all day long versus a regular shoe. I can actually feel a noticeable breeze flowing through when walking at a semi brisk pace.

A specialised shoe, not ideal for everything outdoor, but perfect for wet/dry activities
Bought these for swimming the rapids at Verdon Gorge. Ideal if you want something sturdy that you can walk in across rugged terrain, but drains water quickly when taking a deliberate dip.
