This two-book package is incredibly good value for its very low cost. Book 1 begins with scales, then most of the book is confined to a description of basic chords and their uses. There is information on how Roman numerals are used, the circle-of-fifths (and its different uses), a basic chord progression and a list of numerous three-chord songs. Book 2 includes color chords, chord substitutions, secondary dominants, upper-chord extensions, open harmony and another basic progression.The books provide useful charts. Neither book provides exercises and answers to practise what is learned. Although the information in them is concise, they seem to be longer than they really are. This is because there is a lot of unused 'white space' in them.

Written for piano, which I knew going in.If you have keyboards handy it will be a help. Not totally needed, but it would be better. Hands on always helps in my experience.Still a very good set of books, although I would rather she had spent book 2 going more in depth.There is a lot to music theory, no one book of this size can do justice to all of it. But again, well worth the price, especially for a beginner.

While learning to play piano from instruction books and Internet resources, I've been taking notes and trying to figure out the logic system on which piano music is based. I'm pleased to report that these two e-books succinctly present a great deal of such information in a well organized way. These two books could serve as a valuable reference that enables piano students to see the forest and not just the trees, so to speak. Playing piano with understanding increases one's proficiency and adds a new level of enjoyment to the "finger exercise". I have purchased a number of Rosa's piano instruction videos, and I appreciate the emphasis she places on the music theory behind the know-how that she shares with her students.

I took these courses of Rosa's some time ago, and also many many of her courses since, and can tell you that as a teacher, she far excels any other I have found online or for that matter anywhere out there. Her courses are always totally comprehensive and easy to absorb, as the takes the time to go through every aspect of it thoroughly, leaving no room for doubt or confusion. Everything is clearly demonstrated, reviewed, etc. as she seems totally dedicated toteaching her students at whatever level they are. Also, she is always there for support, which is a priceless bonus! Thank you, Rosa!

This book provides ideas for easy drills and building knowledge that work. It's dry and doesn't have any graphics to make the book more inviting, but the information is great and really works.

Got these for my wife who was starting to play guitar. After only a short time she was explaining terms and definitions to her teacher who is an excellent player and teacher. He was amazed at the level she was at in Theory. These books seem simply written but pack at lot of info in an easily understandable format.

I studied piano as a child for 15 years. I was never taught music theory. This book is an easy read with good explanations of music theory. It is fairly well written and I am moving through it quickly. And the price is right!

This combo proves that you do not have to pay a lot for good musical information. I'm always happy to gain knowledge from an expert and Rosa has never let me down while sharing her knowledge with others.
