'Source' is the multi award-winning saxophonist and composer. A collection of sonic mantras to live by, 'Source' is a deeply personal offering in which Garcia maps cartographies around the coordinate points of her identity, her family histories, grief, afro-diasporic connections and collectivism. 'Source' is fundamentally about getting grounded within yourself, so that you can be present with others. It's about a realisation of personal and collective power: the evolution of the saxophonist's values as she re-connects with herself, her roots and her community. Garcia digs deep to present an album with a global outlook: from London to Bogota, Caura to Georgetown, it's a record drawing inspiration from the many places Garcia calls home.

A Great Debut Album Release
Finally London tenor saxophonist Nubya Garcia releases her first full Jazz album on the concordjazz label and i's called ‘Source’. It features Joe armon-jones on piano and Wurlitzer, Casimir Daniel double bass with Sam Jones on drums. I think they were the main stay of her band on her last tour in 2019.This album kicks off with a track called ‘Pace’ and keeps it going as it doesn’t let up on the 3 tracks on side 1 and the title track ‘Source’ is a reggae infused Jazz track for the feet. Side 2 opens with ‘Stand With Each Other’ and features 3 : Mr Maurice, Cassie Kinoshi and Ritchie Seivwright. La Cumbria Me Esta Llanmdo ft. La Perla is a slice of South America and i immediately it conjures up people dancing in my mind. The album will take a few plays to fully take it all in as there’s a lot to listen to as the lady has woven quite a few influences into the album. Nubya plays and in doing so also lets the rest of the band have their roles without stifling them. Not fully finished this review but will add more once I've fully taken in the album, which usually takes a couple of weeks for me. However on the first couple of listens it's a great album release.I think this might win an award or two and it’s in my top 10 for 2020 so don't be surprised if it wins best jazz album of 2020.Finally the artwork is beautiful, great photo and I love the colours they have used, which are all very earthy. The vinyl is 2xLP and I had to crank up the sound on my amp to get the full resonance of the music.

superb tenor sax, and interesting wide ranging mix of music
Nubya Garcia and fellow musicians create a great sound across a slew of styles, with straight ahead modern jazz feel, light reggae and latin - really great trumpet, and double bass - excellent production, and worth listening to quite a few times to get to the root of what is going on musically in some pieces - very Camden/London/now, and therefore excellent.

Great Jazz album
One of best jazz records of this year so far! Nice blend of modern, post bop, intenational and I really can recommend this record for all jazz fans.

Saxaphonist Nubya Garcia.
Bought after reading a favourable review in The Week. "Boldly original,... melding Calypso rhythms, two step, hard bop...". In my (humble) opinion of the first two tracks, the players all seemed to be doing their own thing. It got a little better but not my scene.

Amazing new talent
This girl knocked me out when I saw her in concert on TV a while back so it was inevitable that I would buy her album. She is certainly a great new talent who I reckon will be around on the jazz scene for years. If you like modern jazz with some great sax and a bit of a twist then get this, you will not be disappointed.
