Just finished Waters Edge.
I loved this book. Detective Megan Carpenter is awesome despite her personal demons, which help her in her cases.I recommend reading this series of books. Can't wait to read book 3 to find out more about her.

Gripping and disturbing
I'm hooked on this series and just downloaded next book! Read in order if you can as a sub-tale of Megan reveals her own life and past.

Things you don't want to find at the Waters Edge
Detective Megan Carpenter is on a new case that turns out to be a serial killer she wants nothing more than to track down and put behind bars. Each body found has a symbol nearby but doesn't help find the killer. While investigating this new case alongside her newly assigned partner, rookie Deputy Ronnie Marsh, Megan's dark secret past continues to give more hints that started in Snow Creek (book 1). In a dramatic climax of events, the case is solved and closed, and in book 2, Gregg Olsen once again leaves the end of Waters Edge on a cliffhanger of more of Megan's personal dark past. On to book 3 it is! I love this series so far and have grown fond of Megan.

a fun book, but missing some depth
I have been enjoying the author’s series, but was a little let down on this one. The story sort of rambled through the list of suspects, and once the true suspects were discovered didn’t really give any valid reason for the crimes they committed. I was left kind of shaking my head.

Vague Ending.
A good read but the ending was too vague. How did Megan know to go to the boat? If Larry Gray's car was parked near the boat, where was Larry when everything was going down? Was Captain Martin in on the murders? If not, then whose boat was used to dump the bodies? Of the six victims. who killed who exactly? Also, was Leann Truitt's dad the father of her baby? Why did Steve Bohleber disappear? Unfortunately, Olsen has a habit of ending his books without dotting all the i's and crossing the t's and this book is no exception.

Water’s Edge
The story of Megan Carpenter/Rylee continues. One aspect is a serial killer murder mystery where Detective Megan accompanied by a brand new reserve deputy, tries to solve who is murdering women who have given up their babies for adoption, coming to suspect a fellow cop is involved. But as interesting as this plot is, it’s secondary to to Megan hidden past where she was known as Rylee and surrounded by deceit and betrayal. In this the second book of the series, we learn more about Rylee’s past and why she — as Megan — chose a career in police work. But with every question answered 2 or 3 more are created. The first book made it seem as if Megan saw her mother as a victim. But if that’s true why does she hate her so much? Megan supposedly killed her bio father but then who is stalking her? Her long lost brother, who just turned up on her doorstep, full of anger for Megan “abandoning” him with Aunt Ginger? What happened to Ginger and how did the brother end up in foster care? Is her brother as emotionally damaged as Megan? And where exactly is the mother — alive, dead, in prison ... where? Hopefully author Gregg will answer all these questions in the next book and pray he writes fast!!

Water's Edge will keep You on the Edge of Your Seat!
Megan, the lone wolf detective, is forced to work with a rookie on a serial killer case. She is not happy, at first! The case brings back ghosts of Megan's childhood, literally and figuratively, but she is determined. The twists in the plot make you think you know who done it, but you will be surprised!

Partners, Serial Killer, Surprise Ending, Trust
Megan does not like having a partner, even temporarily. Ronnie proves herself to be useful, though. She’s got some tech skills and although she talks non-stop, Megan finally takes to her. The case they are trying to close spans a couple of other areas and Megan has to play nice with the detectives. Megan is still being stalked, has issues with guilt about her brother, tries and finds it difficult to date or feel she can trust anyone. One thing we’ve learned about her is, she’s got to close a case on her own and in her own way. This second book has you on edge because of Ronnie’s presence (you’ll see why) and the crimes that can be covered by the very people you should be able to trust. We meet some new people and Megan learns as much as Ronnie this time around. Down to the very last, I thought I knew exactly who did it and why. See if you do better than me.

Brilliant
When the body of a young woman is found on an isolated beach Detective Megan Carpenter is assigned the case. She is also assigned a partner, Reserve Deputy Ronnie Marsh, and Megan works alone! It soon becomes clear the victim is one of three; there is a serial killer on the loose and time is of the essence. While working the case Megan is still making her way through the tapes given to her by her college therapist, finding out more about herself and why she sees the world the way she does. She also thinks she has a stalker, she has never seen anyone but they still make contact and know far too much about her.Once again Gregg Olsen delivers a crime mystery which draws you in, lays the clues out and then leaves you to flounder. I guessed one bit, hoped I was right on another, and missed the mark totally on the rest! The story flows, the tension, as is key in all Mr Olsen's work, increases pretty much without fanfare, and everything comes together as you realise danger is everywhere and maybe both you and Megan missed something vital. There are still things left to be discovered about Megan and her past, her family, and why she behaves as she does. A loner because of fear, a cop because of a need to prevent history ever repeating itself and a deep thinker because who could she ever share any of this with, her way of being is hard to take sometimes. By writing in the first person however, the author gives the reader the privilege of moving through each chapter with Megan to witness the changes even she isn't aware of yet. It is very cleverly and satisfyingly right; I want to know what happens next and I am absolutely sure I will be surprised, dismayed, and cheering her on, every step of the way.I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who read and enjoyed the first book. If you want first class, character driven crime fiction this is also the book and author for you as Mr Olsen is one of the best writers in this genre at present.

"Sometimes I wonder if the beauty of the Northwest is a mask covering the ugly that lurks inside"

Captivating reading
Right after I finished ‘Snow Creek’, the first book in Megan Carpenter series, I knew I wanted to read ‘Water’s Edge’. And it didn’t disappoint me. Intriguing plot, compelling characters, never-ending guessing who the killer is… In this novel Gregg Olsen introduces a new personage, Deputy Ronnie Marsh, who at first glance didn’t appeal to me, but by the middle of the book I took a liking to her. I hope we’ll meet Ronnie in the next Megan Carpenter novel. It should be mentioned that this series has two story lines, one is Megan’s present-day life and the other – her past. So, it’s better to read ‘Snow Creek’ first, to understand the roots of the second plot line.
