PECOHO Scale Code 100 Insulfrog #6 Left-Hand Turnout

I have been a model railroader for a long time , and found that the PECO Turnouts are some of the best on the market . These turnouts have a positive locking when thrown , which is an added plus and a minus . On the plus side , You are assured that your trains will go through without any problems . On the minus , if you want to place a slow motion switch machine on it , then you have to dismantle , and remove the locking mechanism to make it work .When planning your layout , you have to remember that the PECO Turnouts are shorter than your standard turnout . My suggestion is , to buy one of each right and left turnouts . Then make copies of them , and lay them on the layout table top . That way you have a feel of the layout , and how many turnouts you are going to need .

There is no question these are "quality turnouts", but *only* in terms of manufacture quality and scale appearance. I was very disappointed over the preponderance of what are referred to as "wheel shorts" (to a DCC power system) when wheels cross the frogs and some electrical continuity issues associated with consistently powering the point rails. It turns out - according to various on line model railroad forums - these are common problems for this particular variety of turnout. I had to extensively modify my Peco Insulfrog turnouts to get them to function reliably. In fact, some are still giving me trouble and I'm thinking seriously of removing them completely and retrofitting them with turnouts from another manufacturer.

These function perfectly and even have the ties on the ends prepared for rail joiners. Perfect for dcc with no insulated rail joiners needed.
