Make the sticks different heights to avoid crowding. To those that already have this product, a good tip is to get a good pair of snips and cut them to different lengths. You usually only need to remove a 1/2" at a time to offset most pieces that are being held.Otherwise very sturdy and secure. Good clips and decent base. I further weighted mine down with a plate of 4 x 6 x 0.25 6061 aluminum I had lying around but I'm guessing most people don't have that.

The alligator clips are larger, sturdier, and overall better than the ones you get in the packets with little clips and bamboo skewers that you need to assemble. Also, the clips come attached much more securely than can be accomplished with the bamboo ones without a special tool. And as an added benefit if you need it, they can be bent and have protective, removable covers for the alligator clip jaws.The first pic shows a comparison with the bamboo ones and also a demo of a bent metal one (from another set). The other pic is to show how wicked sharp I made them.The opposite end is squared off, i.e., not pointed. I ended up sharpening mine so I can use them with a block of styrofoam and have never used the block. When airbrushing, it's easier to take the piece you were just painting and jab it into a piece of styrofoam or whatever than to precisely insert into the base. I also have a set of unpainted metal ones, which also needed sharpening, and I think I like the black better (for what it's worth).Unfortunately, due to price, I only have the one set of these nice metal ones and, aside from the other five unpainted metal ones, I end up using a lot of the bamboo ones. Maybe the seller could start selling the stems and clips without the base? I think the problem with that is that, because they are metal, sharpened they could be dangerous (though in truth, no more so than the sharpened bamboo).

Metal clips and shaft on the alligator clips. Rubber protectors need to be installed manually but that is not a biggie. The base is solid and stable the clips seat into the base snugly no wobble once seated. Overall quality product, with good value.

These are extremely helpful when airbrushing scale model pieces and lead to a much cleaner finish by avoiding finger prints. There's more than you'll ever need at once, the base is very solid, and the grip is very reliable.

I has two sets and I ordered 3 more so I can build and paint multiple cars at one time! I only use the stands to hold the clamps and when I affix a part to them I prefer to use a thick Styrofoam board that I save from packages I get. I never throw out thick Styrofoam as it has so many uses in scale modeling!These alligator clamps hold the parts very securely and pierce through the board effortlessly. I tried other clamps but these are the best in my opinion.
