Finding Your Roots: The Official Companion to the PBS Series Paperback – September 15, 2015

An engaging continuation of the stories presented in the PBS series. While one reviewer was disappointed that this book was not another "how to" guide to genealogy, I found it insightful, delightfully written, entertaining, and enlightening. There are some take-away genealogical lessons in this book for the astute reader. Dr. Gates' writing style is as pleasurable as his on-camera persona. I hope Professor Gates provides us with a similar volume for his next season of stories from Finding Your Roots.

This book is a great resource for anyone finding their roots.

Whether you are a history buff, genealogist (professional or amateur) this is a fascinating trip into history and an excellent explanation of DNA research. What else can I say? Professor Gates is simply outstanding. Read his other works as well. He is also an excellent author.

A must have if you love Finding Your Roots! :)

Book copy was not easy to read and not put together well.

Fascinating to learn about others' roots, and the wide variety of historic perspectives and surprises found in each person's family trees. This is a perfect companion indeed, to the series, and is so well done. The title is misleading because it won't help anyone find their roots. I think what was most striking about each section in the book were the DNA tests done, and the family groups and explanations provided, which adds great new insight into genealogical research that wasn't available even 2 decades ago.

I enjoyed reading "Finding Your Roots", by Henry Gates Jr. His book held my interest at all times. Today, many people want to know about their roots. With the advances in DNA, it is possible to do so. As a reader, I found it interesting how many known figures were able to trace their family tree back in time. I felt I learnt a lot about American History as well. In addition, the TV program "Finding Your Roots", is worth watching.
