Can I hand wash the inside?

Yes, but it is not recommended to wash with water.

I’m confused, the lock does nothing??? If the lock supposed to stop anyone from getting in, it doesn’t?

Make sure the zipper pulls are fully latched on the lock. Spin the dial so it isn’t on your code. Now try to open it, voila, you can’t.
