Now a Netflix film starring and directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, this is a gripping memoir of survival and perseverance about the heroic young inventor who brought electricity to his Malawian village. When a terrible drought struck William Kamkwamba's tiny village in Malawi, his family lost all of the season's crops, leaving them with nothing to eat and nothing to sell. William began to explore science books in his village library, looking for a solution. There, he came up with the idea that would change his family's life forever: he could build a windmill. Made out of scrap metal and old bicycle parts, William's windmill brought electricity to his home and helped his family pump the water they needed to farm the land. Retold for a younger audience, this exciting memoir shows how, even in a desperate situation, one boy's brilliant idea can light up the world. Complete with photographs, illustrations, and an epilogue that will bring readers up to date on William's story, this is the perfect edition to read and share with the whole family. Review: A Story About Dedication and Success - Written by my son: I recommend The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. The book has an interesting story line. I like that Geoffrey was a nice friend and was loyal. I also recommend this book because it shows that dedication can get you to success. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is a great story. Review: Great book - I’ve seen the film, but I think the book is much better. I’d also recommend the audiobook—it’s very pleasant to listen to.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Thus far it a great book, it teaches you adversity, family, friendships, hardwork, love, education is important and perseverance. I really like the book. The six graders read it before and did a project on a windmill. I'm looking forward to finishing the book and watching the movie on it real soon.

This book is a great model of what one person with an idea could do
This book is a great model of what one person with an idea could do. “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind,” is an autobiographical novel written by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. It focuses on how WIlliam Kamwamba tries to make a windmill from scraps even though he could not continue going to school. When William’s tiny village in Malawi, Africa, was struck by a horrendous famine, he and family could barely feed each other due to the loss of crops, leave alone paying for school. Forced to drop out of school, William found a library book that gave him a huge idea - he could build a windmill for power made out of scraps and not only could it help his family, but it could also help the village. It is truly a story about an inspiring boy that changed many lives. It takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion with a lot of twists and turns. “I tried and I succeeded” is one of the best quotes. The problem and the words William Kamkawamba used were so realistic, it made the book come alive. I recommend it for people who want to hear about overcoming problems, a different culture, and a hero’s journey. People from ten and beyond should read this. I rate this a 5/5 book because of its plot and word of choice. I really liked the ending of the book when he described what he changed. Also it gave me an important realization of how people struggle to get education. If you read this, you will be inspired.

Inspiring for all ages.
JJ and I read this book online. JJ says, this book made me take more challenges to things love (designing). It is really cool that people with creative minds can make things out of nothing but limited supplies.

Really enjoyed it!
I found this was a great book for any age. I’ve used it as a class novel study and the kids enjoy it. It’s great for connections to the science curriculum, not just language. Paired with the movie, it works as a great school resource or just an interesting and inspiring story for anyone to learn about.

Excellent book to read for young reader
I purchased this book for my son. The book starts with William's childhood, which portrait his village condition perfectly. Slowly book turn towards famine in Africa in 2001. How people struggled to get their daily live? How does starvation looks like? How comfortable are we? Then next segment comes, which is real meat of the crazy boy. The book has been written with simple English & emotional enough to understand his pain & their village pain. Dont forget to watch his video in TED talks, also find 2009 video as well. You can visually feel how he turned himself in 2 years of time period.

A discovery
This book is a true story, describing lives many of us could not even start to imagine. An excellent book and an eye-opener for our entitled young generation. A truly moving, encouraging, and motivating story.

Beeindruckend
