It depends not only on weight but how your cat acts in a carrier. I had no problems with my 13 pound cat in the carrier but she is shy and quiet. I would not use the carrier for my eight pound former feral Torti that panics when put in a carrier. It is not the sturdiest carrier but it is well made for a plastic carrier and I love that it folds nearly flat for storage. **Q: Will this fit under the seat in a plane** A: No it won't. Its pretty spacious for a cat carrier which is a plus for it. It's really both too tall and wide to fit under a plane seat unfortunately. It would be nice to see a "travel" version of this carrier for that purpose. **Q: Is it gray/tan or grey/blue? (Previous answers say both, which is confusing)** A: The body of the carrier is a slate blue/gray and the door, handle and locks on top are beige. I hope that helps. I must say everyone at the vet's office loved how easy it was to get the cat in and out. It was also easy to secure with a seatbelt in the car. **Q: What type of latches does this carrier have? Are they secure?** A: The door handle is a swivel latch. Very secure every time I use it. I have several carriers of this type. I have used the carrier for cats weighing up to 12 lbs with no problems. The wife opening door makes it very easy to get a cat in the carrier, especially for cats who do not like getting in the traditional box type carriers. And it folds flat for storage.
