Lovely stories & illustrations.
My son loved this book & we read & re-read these stories many times. This is a beautiful hardback copy with lovely illustrations, very appealing in that tradional story kind of way. It's become a classic in our house now & I bought this as a present for my nephew. Very happy with it.

Mike Mulligan
I read one of these to my children when they were little. Gave this one to my son to read to his boy. It is wonderful and I was so pleased to find other stories she had written. I love the drawings too.

Wonderful book
I saw one of these stories mentioned by Michael Morpurgo as one of his favourites, couldn't agree more, lovely old fashioned tale and the bonus here of several more.

I can remember this from my own childhood and it remains a lovely bedtime story book. The drawings are lovely and the stories engage young children.

Machinery for children
The distinctive artwork of Lee Burton give this book a special character. She illustrates the machinery, geography and organised activity of industrial change and development. Three of the stories, with a steam shovel, a house and a tramcar show a nostalgia for the past and a desire to preserve industrial heritage. One, with a snowplough, shares a common theme with the steam shovel, of the triumph of hard work over adversity and the benefits of machanisation.Children will love the detailed pictures which show the parts of machines and the work that they do. The drawings are straightforward and it is easy to spend as much time talking about them as reading the stories. They are a good length for children who are ready for slightly more complex picture books and take about 15-20 minutes to read. Having four stories in a quality hardback makes this book good value.
