First Book of Sushi (World Snacks Series)

It’s Okay - Just about sushi
It’s a cute concept but not what I was expecting for a board book. I was hoping for more recipes. My daughter likes it and my son doesn’t mind it too much. The pictures are nice. The sushi words are hard to pronounce if you don’t already have knowledge of their pronunciation.

Defective printing from Knopf
I love this book, and it has been a favorite with a few babies I know, including both of my own. I tried to order it as a gift and got a defective printing, reordered and got the same defective printing. I don't know how to find a non-defective copy. I own an older version published by Tricycle Press. The two defective copies I received are published by Alfred A. Knopf and not Tricycle. The cover shown in the Amazon listing is the old Tricycle cover, and there no indication that I would be receiving the Knopf version instead. The defects are: 1) a color scale covering the picture on page 16, and 2) a line of text left out on the last page. In the Tricycle Press version, the last line of the rhyming text is on the back cover. In the Knopf version, they added a glossary but left out the last line of the poem, so that the second to last line is left hanging and the rhythm and rhyme of the text don't work. Amazon should pull all of the defective copies. I rated the book 5 stars, but the Knopf version would get none.

Cute little food book
Cute little hard back book. Love the use of decorative paper and fabric to make the pictures designs. Also has a little “dictionary” page to explain the different parts be it the Japanese word for a type of fish, roll or ingredient mentioned. I these types of books help toddlers recognize different types of food and in turn makes it easier for them to try new foods.

Use this book to introduce sushi to your kiddo!
I had originally purchased this book as a gift for a friend's baby. That baby was obsessed with this book--loved the colors, loved hearing her parents read the sing-songy text to her. At times it would be the only thing that would calm her down during a cranky fit! So when I had my own kid, I figured I had to get it for him too. He really does seem to love the bright colors. I'm excited for the day he can eat real sushi so I can make the connection back to the book for him!UPDATE: When he was about 22 months and super obsessed with this book, we took him to a low-key sushi restaurant and ordered everything from the book. Then as the food came, we would turn to the corresponding pages and talk to him about the food. He became obsessed with ikura (dabby dots of jelly, salty on my lips, yummy in my belly!) and tamago. In fact, I now have a child who occasionally freaks out because I don't have ikura for breakfast available to him. Pros and cons!

Fun book, ends awkwardly abrupt
Really cute book and definitely breaks up the monotony of all your other children's books. I was disappointed though as it ends awkwardly abruptly. I read reviews and apparently a previous (or newer?) version of this book has an actual last line that is not so abrupt. My copy was not this version. Beware the rhymes are not the cleanest and change from page to page so you kind of have to establish your own method for reading this book- but all that said- I do enjoy reading this to my daughter!

Love the pictures and learning Japanese words!
My 10 month old daughter loves me reading this book her. She loves the colors of the pictures. I really love that is teaching her Japanese words as I read it to her. It is also simple reading as well. I also love that is introducing some sushi to her cause my husband and I love to eat sushi.

Knopf version has been corrected to include last line
I adore this board book and have gifted the original Tricycle Press version of it (which has the title at the top) to many babies and toddlers. I was worried about ordering the new Knopf version of this book as several reviews from 2016 stated that there were printing errors -- including the omission of the last line! Well, I'm glad to report that as of my order in May 2018, the printing errors have been fixed and the last line has been re-instated.

Disappointed that last line of the book is omitted
We own this book ourselves and really enjoy reading it to our daughters so we bought it for a friend's birthday present. We were disappointed to see the cover, in particular the back cover has changed! It no longer says "tomorrow i'll eat with chopsticks but today just with my hands" like with our issue. It was cute because it rhymed with the last page of the book which reads "Tobiko, flying fish roe, flying from Japan"It also seems like false advertising because before we bought it we looked at the photos of the front and back cover which includes that last line.Another problem was about 10 minutes after ordering the book we hit "cancel order" to change the shipping address. Well we ended up getting 2 copies of the book in one box.

Fun read
I bought it as a joke but my nephew actually picks it out for me to read to him.

Colourful, informative and creative
A lovely book that introduces children, and adults, to new food. The unique way that it is illustrated also is inspirational for creative projects with your kids.

Happy with everything!
I bought this for my friends baby shower gift... The quality was great. The illustrations were captivating and the literature rhymed which was adorable. She loved it!

Three Stars
Fun book but it just sort of ends. Not a lot of flow.
