My old electronic chiming clock would chime near when it was supposed to, sometimes. Except at 7:20 AM it chimed the hour of 7. As it got older, it required time adjustments regularly, which didn't affect the chiming that seemed to have a mind of its own. These faults wore me down and I decided to replace it. There is not a lot you can fix on an electronic device. This Howard Miller is rock solid. I have a digital watch with an analog face and when the chime for the hour goes off I look at my watch and it's that hour straight up on the second hand. I love that accuracy. It is solidly made, looks good, and worth the money. I saw a review that worried me. It said the chime sounded electronic. Well, an electronic clock is playing a sound file through a speaker. With the volume up, you do hear an electronic background noise while it chimes. I adjusted the volume down a little and you can't hear that background as well. It's still there, but not very noticeable. So if you are real picky about that, this may get on your nerves. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm well aware it's not a mechanical chiming clock. Good news is you don't have to wind it and it costs a fraction of a mechanical clocks price.

I love my clock. I had a wind up mantel clock and replaced it with the battery. I love the chimes and it keeps time.

So for many years I've had a very anemic sounding mantle clock. I hated it. This week we just decided to replace it. We read the reviews and went with this one. The face is beautiful. The shape is nice. It's not too big or too small. We have it in the living room but can hear it all through the house. There is a volume adjustment so we were able to make sure it wasn't heard in the bedrooms. In any case, it's possible to leave it chiming all 24hrs or set it to turn off at 11pm. back on again to chime at 6am. The only con is that it is much lighter than I expected. For its size I was expecting a little more substance. That being said, the chimes sound like a grandfather clock...deep and rich. We are happy with it.

This clock was damaged beyond belief!!!!! It came in an Amazon box with the original box that the clock came in. The original box had a good 13 labels all over it and looked like it had been dropped a few 100 times. I went ahead and looked at the clock and it was damaged on the "wood" parts. The clip to hold the clock itself was broken off and sliding around in the glass. The back panel wouldn't secure shut and if I would have bought this thing new with its cheap plastic look and feel, I would have been livid more so than I am right now. In fairness, I did buy the warehouse returned version where the description stated that the box would be damaged but said nothing about the clock looking like it did. This is not worth $249 even if it was brand new.

I love this clock, but I have to give a five-star review with stipulations. The clock arrived in perfect condition. We set it up following the easy directions (It needs two 'C' batteries), and it began keeping perfect time. We loved it. About a week later, I decided to change the chime to see how a different one sounded. After that, it would only strike the hour, and not the quarters. I checked to make sure that it was on the proper setting, but it would not strike. So I contacted Amazon, who sent a speedy replacement. The new one works fine. We love the deep rich sound and it keeps perfect time. It also looks like a very good quality vintage clock.So I would recommend this clock. I figure the first one just had a something that 'happens' once in awhile.

It’s a nice Clock. I like Howard Miller clocks, and wanted to love this, but it looked too “ “plastic”. For the price I paid, I couldn’t see the value.

Although I just returned this clock, it was only because of it's volume control. Even at its lowest setting it is louder than the level of a normal conversation and could still be heard on the 2nd floor, although barely. I feel that any volume control should start at dead silent and go up from there. The outside finish on the clock is so smooth it feels like plastic for the most part (I could be wrong on that) except for the legs and the access door in the back. The inside feels like some kind of wood composit. The access door in the back has a latch with an oval metal ring. In order to gain access one would think it needs to be pulled straight out to be released from the clock. Actually, you need to just turn it. There are no instructions or arrows to guide you.Now the good part. We have a full size grandfather clock and this little jewel sounds just about like it. Amazing sound quality from just using a small speaker and a digitized recording.The glass over the dial does not pick up much light reflection, if present, and one can clearlysee the numbers and hands in all conditions. The face of the clock has a diameter of about 6 1/4"The clock uses two 'C' batteries and one of its fixed options is to shut off the ringing between 11:00 pm and 5:45AM after which it resumes ringing. The inside battery compartment seems to be of high quality construction compared to others I have seen. Overall, I really liked this clock and it kept perfect time the few days we had it.

This is a beautiful, well-made clock. I will agree with previous reviews. It is a bit tricky trying to open the back. It is an easy process once you figure it out. The chimes are beautiful and sound as good as my parents' grandfather clock. It keeps good time. I am very pleased with this clock.

I bought this for my hubby's birthday - we like it very much.
