5 Year Update ***** Exceptional Doggie Door
I have had this dog door installed for about a month now and I couldn't be more impressed. The build quality is exceptional. I have had PetSafe doggie doors before, both standard and extreme and this one is on a completely different level. I know it's expensive at $300, but it is well worth it based on build quality, looks, and most importantly the seal. My dog door faces due north. This weekend brought weather in the 10's-20's with winds over 30mph and standing on the inside of the door there wasn't a draft. The PetSafe Extreme doggie door that I had previously would flap in the breeze with winds like that, but this one's magnets held it completely tight with not a bit of a draft. I was so impressed. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the snap of the magnets when my dogs go out the door. It is a sharp snap, not the sound of flapping plastic, due to the way it closes. That is completely acceptable from me due to the fantastic seal. If you have any concerns with energy efficiency of your pet door or drafts from wind blowing in, buy this door. It is well worth the money. This doggie door even looks professionally done and well built. It doesn't look like a cheap piece of plastic stuffed in a hole cut in your door. It looks intentionally put together, and the smoked plexiglass for a door lock insert is a very nice touch. I will update this review if the thing doesn't last (I've only used it for a month with two 25lb. dogs), but I firmly expect it to last for years based on the build quality that I can see. 2 Year Update: Outstanding build quality. this is the best dog for ever. I've had it installed on my north facing door for two years now and I'm as happy with it today as when I first bought it. Yes, it's expensive but it's so durable. Two years of daily abuse by two to five dogs blasting through the door at full speed and it still seals as well today as new. It gets dirty, so I clean it. There is no draft, no adjustments needed. It makes a fantastic seal that has stayed 100% sealed in 60+ mph north winds. The only negative that I can find is the sharp, loud snap when it closes, but that's what makes the seal so good. Highly recommended. Love it. ***** 5-Years Later - This dog door is outstanding. I have had two dogs sprinting through this thing daily for more than 5 years now and I haven't repaired a single part. The flap and magnet are much dirtier than the day I bought it, but that's all. Nothing has frayed or cracked and the door works the same today as day 1. I would say I will buy another, but it's not looking like I'll ever have to. The quality is impeccable. The magnetic seal still snaps tight and holds up to our high north winds without a draft. I'd give this more stars if I could.

Durable and attractive
The BEST dog door. We have purchased this same dog door 4 times as we have moved homes. This door is sturdy for our large breed dogs, weather proof and with the security insert a very secure locking door. It’s very easy for even small dogs to use. Door flaps are of sturdy weather proof fabric that is very easy to keep clean, just spritz with your favorite all surface cleaner and wipe dry. We used our last door for 12 years and it looked like new when we moved out of the house. It is a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Very weatherproof but vinyl flap tore after 4 years’ use.
This is the most weather proof dog door I’ve found. It is expensive but worth the price. After 4 years of use, the vinyl window did rip, so I had to replace it sooner than I thought I should. I do have a dog with minor walking issues, so he probably got tangled up in the door at some point, but I think it should a a bit more durable at the price. However, I live in Vermont and even on the coldest days, there is minimal heat loss through the door. I have my dog door leaving my mud room and with my older dog door, the room was a good 10 degrees colder. Now there is minimal temperature drop. Part of the problem with the old door is that the builder did not cut the hole perfectly and crammed the dog door into a slightly too small hole. Regardless what brand you buy, it is ESSENTIAL that the hole in the door be perfect, so the magnets close the door properly.

Great dog door! It has held up for many years!
We purchased this dog door in 2012, and it has been in use continuously since then. My husband installed it himself easily, by cutting a hole in the lower part of a door leading out to the back yard, and following the excellent installation instructions. It took some convincing for my husband to agree to it at all, as he was convinced that any dog door would have air leakage and lead to higher electric bills. I did a lot of research and found that this door addressed those concerns and was highly rated. He has since admitted that his fears were completely unfounded. It is truly weather and air tight and we have seen no leakage at all. It is extremely well-built and sturdy and has not deteriorated in any way. The only maintenance that is needed is an occasional wipe-down with a spray cleaner and some paper towels. Most importantly, the dogs have no trouble using it. We had two 35-pound dogs when we first got it, and they got the hang of it almost immediately. It was wonderful not to have to constantly get up to let them out. Those two senior dogs have since sadly passed, and we got a new puppy last year who also took to it right away. He is now a year old and weighs about 20 pounds. Our son’s 30-pound dog also uses it when he visits. We recently misplaced the pin that locks the acrylic panel in place, (used for when you want to temporarily stop access to the door) and I emailed the company to ask if I could purchase one. They emailed right back and were kind enough to send me one for free! So great customer service as well! The dog door has held up beautifully for many years and the company is a pleasure to deal with. I heartily recommend this product!

Better than expected.
I had installed a much cheaper dog door a few months ago and while impressed with the installation instructions, I was disappointed in the construction and materials used. It is still in use today and seems to work ok. Definitely not energy efficient but then it goes from the garage to the outside. Needing a second (more enery efficient) door to go into the garage, I decided to give the Freedom Pet Pass a try. MUCH more expensive but definitely a better value with much heavier construction. This door does not 'flap in the wind' like the previous door (originally installed in the same door as the Freedom unit). I was surpised as to how little packaging was involved. Basically the unit was wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a shipping box. More than adequate but not all that 'professional'. Written instructions were vague but the web site has a number of installation videos that are very good. One tool that would make installation much cleaner is a good file (as shown in the video). I did not have one but wish I would have. One dog uses the door with no problem but a second dog is hesitant due to the weight of the flap. Slowly she is accepting it though. If you need a good energy efficient unit go for this one. Will it hold up to hurricane force winds? Dont know but I would have bigger problems if that happens.

Stop buying those cheap dog doors and get this one!!
This makes our third Freedom Pet Pass dog door with the first two purchased almost 15 years ago. I will admit these doors are not cheap, then or now, but they are definitely well worth the money. They are extremely easy to install if you are a DIY'er as I've installed both in a door and in a wall and I'm no professional carpenter. If you are worried about security, these doors are way more secure than those cheaper plastic ones that have a single, weak magnet. If you are worried about the magnet quality or stiffness of the door, we just had -14 degree weather and a 5 month old Beagle pup had no issues. We live in northern Colorado just 30 miles south of Cheyenne Wyoming. We get wind gusts multiple times a year that get up to 70-80 MPH. Enough to blow semis over on I-25 but not enough to blow these doors open or blow rain or snow through them like those cheaper ones do. Been there, done that. The attached pics show one of the old doors between our house and garage and the new one I recently installed in a door from the garage to the backyard. Our previous dogs were older and bigger and knew how to use a dog door but our new Beagle pup is only 5 months old and weighs 14 lbs. and both were a little hard for him to go through so I applied strips of duct tape over the magnets to reduce their strength. This allowed our pup to get used to dog doors and be able to push the doors open in both directions. Once he go confident I slowly removed the duct tape. It took about a week to get him used to pushing on them but now he flies through them like our older dogs did. We love these doors and would give them ten stars if I could. If we ever need to replace one we will definitely be buying FPP.

Nice door but
Nice looking door but not worth $400 plus $20 shipping. Prime member or not (large dog door) The Dog door does not have any way to adjustable to thickness of your door. If your door is a little thinner or thicker than a stand door, this will not work. Thicker door, you will have to cut spacers to make the door fit or the security panel will fall out. Thinner door you would have to cut spacer for around outside of dog door. Either way, there is no way to adjust if your door is not the exact thickness of dog door inner frame. Says it is built with pride in Michigan, USA. Might be built there but pretty sure uses Chinese parts because when I had to make spacers all the MDF is metric dimensions. The security panel is not clear, it's off white plastic, which is good it is not clear or your dog would not know it was there. Insulated flap? about 1/8 to 1/4 inch foam so better than nothing. Nice looking door but install was a nightmare because my door was a little thicker. Hope it durable, time will tell. Definitely not worth $400, I'd say more like a $200 door.

Awesome door!
Awesome!! So glad this is the door I chose. It works great and is very energy efficient in Houston’s hot summer heat!! It was definitely worth the extra money! It keeps the cool air in and the hot air out! It opens and closes easily and seals up immediately behind the dogs and they come in and go out.
