How to Make a Treadle-Operated Wood-Turning Lathe (Workshop Equipment Manual, 6)

The foundation of a whole shop!
I live off grid, and have very restricted electric. As such, I have to find alternatives to power tools whenever possible. While I may choose to modify the design presented in this book to accomadate other tools, the basics are excellent and very usable. The book contains step by step instructions that are clear and very do-able provided you have basic metal working skills or know someone who has them. Very few parts are specific, so you can adapt to whatever you have laying around. Purely a how to instruction book for one specific tool, but once you know how to make things turn a clever person could turn this into a bandsaw, scrollsaw, sander, buffer, grinder, or any number of other devices. A very good book all in all.

Very informative
This book has a very detailed step-by-step plan for building a treadle powered lathe. It wasn't exactly the plan that I was looking for (uses to many modern parts for my taste) but is still very easy to read and follow the steps. If you don't mind a more modern version of a treadle powered lathe then this book is definitely for you.

Modern version of a classic tool
Excellent instructions to build a modern version of a classic tool. Be forewarned if you are in the US all dimensions are in metric. Also this requires having the ability to weld metal parts in the assembly. These instructions tell you how to build a lathe from metal angle stock and an old bicycle.

You need to be good at welding to make this all metal lathe
This design has no crank so the bicycle wheel that drives it presumably 'free wheels' between strokes. I didn't find it clear.
