After struggling to center the chuck on my old 12 inch Craftsman lathe, I decided to look for a new self-centering chuck. This chuck is remarkable. It is a heavy chuck for the size and the pinions performs perfectly to center all the jaws simultaneously. The price is very reasonable and the quality of the workmanship assures that this chuck will last many years. It holds my wood in place securely.

Good beginner quality chuck. I’d rated this as on the higher end of Chinese made products. Seems like good steel was used. The gears are not as smooth working as some higher end chucks but they get the job done. Considering the price of higher quality chucks, you cannot beat this one for value received.

Good quality well made

This lathe chuck works ok. Not amazing by any means. It does have a tendency to loosen up while working (or at least mine does) so I constantly stop and check, I have had at least 4 peices go flying off the lathe. Peices have a tendency to shift off balance on occasion, especially if you have a catch with your turning tool. It also Does Not Have A Setscrew so don't expect to be running this chuck in reverse safely. That being said, it is decent for the price, and if you buy the kit with all 4 jaw sets you are getting ahead of the game value-wise. Just remember to periodically stop and check for tight.

First off, I love that I didn’t have to overpay for a good quality gear chuck! Second, I love that it fits perfectly on my WEN benchtop lathe! And best of all, it holds its grip well! Was absolutely drenched in grease in the box so no worries about rust. A little excessive really as there were grease spots on the outside of the box, but I guess better safe then sorry. The ONLY downside is that sometimes the key will slip a little when tightening. The teeth of the key are not as deep as I’ve seen on other chuck keys. Overall, I really love it and would definitely recommend!
