Great overview of the history of Catharism
I'm not sure why the previous reviewer was so critical of this book. I found it to be an excellent introduction to Catharism. The book is clearly written, and presented with interesting and relevant graphics to support the narrative. Although details of the Cathars beliefs are sketchy (because they were literally wiped out by the Roman Catholic Church), what is known is described well in this book. The book also offers an extensive description of the history of persecution that the Cathars suffered through, and the key figures involved in the Albigensian Crusades and Inquisition against them.

Exquisite book about the Cathars and their extermination
This is an exquisite book about Cathar history, well-documented, and very pleasant to read, thanks to the generous illustrations and Sean Martin's elegant writing style. The Cathar movement in both Italy and France is covered from its beginning to its agony, and the author makes it very easy to follow with ten clearly delineated chapters, an index, a bibliography and a list of important terms. I would recommend this book to anyone willing to learn about the Cathar spiritual movement. I previously read Mark TJ Griffin, The Cathar Prophecy, which is primarily a fictitious account of what happened at Montsegur during the last few months of the siege, and the two books complement each other very well for the reader avid of historical details and insights into Cathar life.

Superb Treatment of Our Dark Past
Excellent book for the understanding of the Cathar heresy and history. The photography of both the scenery and the artifacts are stunning. The text is well written but not exhaustive.

Well written and gripping saga for the Cathars
Well written and gripping saga for the Cathars. Sean Martin is fast becoming my go-to-guy for Medieval European history (I read his Knight Templars book too)

OK but no more.
This book is OK as a short & light & easy read - it does not provide an in-depth coverage.
