Mostly it puddled and rolled off. Did three pours in a row. Did not touch the chair, though each pour compromised top a bit more. So you might be OK with an occasional spill, but better not to spill at all. **Q: What is velvet made of?** A: I think it might be micro fiber I'm not positive. It's very nice. Soft and durable. **Q: Two questions. Would this stay in place on a leather recliner? Also, how much protection does this provide against dog nails?** A: 1st question. Yes I think it would stay in place on lrather. The back has a texture that grips well. 2nd question. I'm not sure. The fabric seems durable, but the thread that makes a diamond pattern on fabric is very thin and I think a pets nails could snag it very easily. If the thread breaks it could just be a cosmetic problem. I have had my cover for 11 months and use the chair with the cover every day for many hours a day and it shows very little wear. I don't have any pets so my comments are speculative related to damage a pet may do. **Q: Have a 20 inch seat on the chair. Will it work?** A: My chair is 20" in the back part of the seat and 26" across the front. I bought the large, and I'm happy with it. The large fits the whole way across the front of my chair seat 26" It won't fit like the photo except for the first time you put it on. It moves into the chair. The bottom rides up and the top rides down into the chair. I have to 'fix' it every few days because I use it all the time. Even so I like it much better than the worn out fabric on the chair. I would buy it again. With this backing (feels sort of like something you would put under your rug to keep it from sliding) it does not slide much on the chair. I don’t have to rearrange it every time I get up. Maybe about three times a week I have to arrange it a little bit. Very comfortable, holds my cell phone, channel changer and the controller for the lift chair in handy dandy side pockets. Very soft and comfortable. Love love love it!UPDATE 4/2022 - Just ordered another cover as wanted an extra one for when washing the first cover. LOVE these. So soft, fits wonderfully and works well for my needs. Happy to have 2. First one was beige, second one is green. The color navy blue is beautiful. The backing is rubbery so it stays on the chair even without the straps provided. The back strap goes on fine. The other strap for the seat seems like it was in the wrong place so I'm not using it. Maybe because I got the large size based on other reviews even thought my chair is just normal size. This fits the whole way across the top. The pockets would be better on the left side instead of the right so as not to interfere with the lever to raise the foot rest, but that's not a big issue. All the newer recliners have a lower lever so that might not be an issue for you. Can't say for sure about water resistance because I didn't spill anything on it yet.Update: Jan.2, 2021 - I still love it, but it does move.
