Art Forms from the Abyss: Ernst Haeckel's Images From The HMS Challenger Expedition Paperback – October 25, 2015

Excellent book in fine condition.

A great book in its own right! With lots of gorgeous pictures in large format this is a companion volume to Haeckel's monumental " Kunstformen der Natur ( Art Forms in Nature )" because it shows a number of plates that are missing in Art Forms in Nature, for instance, on page 130 ( Radiolarians Plate 117 with Circorrhegma dodecahedra). It is desirable to publish a sturdy hardcover edition.

This is a beautiful book for a coloring book. The covers are harder than paper back and the art is just incredible. I almost don’t want to color in it. Some of the images are grey (black & white) so I’ll have to figure out how to color those but it’s a great buy!!

...bring to mind H.R. Giger paintings...AND THEY'RE ILLUSTRATIONS OF REAL THINGS!!!

Best book I have ever bought as an artist. The forms provide limitless inspiration. You need to also buy Art forms in Nature.

Fantastic

If you like natural history illustrations, here are some wonderful images nicely reproduced. The radiolarians are my favorite and Haeckel did a supurb job delineating them as well as jellyfish and siphonophores . These images are slightly different in form and function compared to Haeckels masterpiece Art Forms in Nature. Here the plates are earlier works and more purely representational while in Art Forms...where the images are arranged in a more sophisticated way and a little more styalized.If you like Haeckel you will have fun with this book.
