Great lock for interior and exterior residential doors and even server rooms
This is the second time I have purchased this particular lock. And the first time was in an apartment back before I moved. So when I started renting a room and I needed to secure my electronics and other valuables, this lock was the first lock I went to because of its ease-of-use and the auto lock feature. Considering that I have substantial customer data on my laptop and external hard drives, getting up to use the restroom or fix a meal in the kitchen/go out to eat, and ensuring that the door locks behind me complies with all of the data security policies that I have to meet. Further, these are the same exact locks used throughout the building at my volunteer job so I am already familiar with them. 10 out of 10 would buy again. High-quality, and absolutely a steal for the price. Operation is simple, either use one or both of the pre-programmed user codes, or take a moment and program up to 19 codes at a time. This is absolutely wonderful considering that in an application like a front door building maintenance staff, building management, as well as myself and members of my family can have their own code. And applications such as an interior door for the room I am renting this is not so much something to write home about, but with staff coming in and out to assist me each of them can have their own unique code. An extra bonus feature is the so-called vacation mode. If you want to blanket deny all user code access to your house or other secured area while you are going to be away for an extended period of time this is a great feature. Hell, I’ve even used this before I went to The hospital, as I did not know when I would return. That even a compromised user code would fail to operate the lock. While I could have opted for the higher end model that has the ability to disable the auto lock functionality, or a higher end model that can communicate with my smart phone these features to me would be overkill in my particular application and as a result, this particular FE575 lock is just what I need. I would encourage that families with children coming and going from school get this lock as for the fact that you don’t have to worry about the keys being lost or stolen or wrooring that a rushed or forgetful child or spouse would forget to lock the door behind them. This also works great for if you have an Airbnb rental property or if you have service providers coming in or out as you can add a temporary code to allow them in and when their access is no longer required the code can easily be deleted.

Very Solid
At the time i bought this, i also ordered for another door a 'Kwikset 90915SMTCP SmartCode Single Cylinder Deadbolt Featuring SmartKey, Satin Nickel' so although they are different items, i will be mainly comparing the differences in the style, quality, and ease of use/installation since they are both Keypad style entry units. Overall i would buy both products again. they are both pretty straight forward on the installation. the instructions are thorough and easy to follow if you have ever installed a door handle/deadbolt before you shouldn't have any issue with the install. you will probably already know aligning the hole for the strike plate is the most challenging task, but shy of that i actually found this unit and the kwikset deadbolt easier to install than my previous standard door handle/deadbolt set. Comparing the 2 units in quality, i would have to tip my hat to the Schlage. It feels like a super solid and strong unit. the programming is easy if you are following the instructions, and can store several codes. also the LED back light for the keypad is extremely bright, yet another nice feature. the handles come not attached so depending on what way your door opens you can actually just flip the piece on the inside of the handle and then install the handle the opposite way, so this would work on a left or right opening door, very nice. im not sure what it is about the Schlage rather than the kwikset, but i love the way the Schlage handle and the entire unit looks. It just seems very crisp and clean, maybe its just the color even though i did get the same color for both units. My biggest and only complaint with the Schlage vs the Kwikset is the battery compartment. on the kwikset it is (1)on the interior of the door (since this would more than likely be where the heat is coming from it would probably extend battery life) and (2) is accessible WITHOUT removing the Deadbolt. Where as on the Schlage it is (1) NOT on the inside of the door, but on the outside in the weather constantly and (2) you MUST REMOVE the entire handle in order to access the battery compartment. this is the only reason this unit gets a 4 star instead of 5. Shy of these things, both units have a Key-ed back up, so if you batteries die before you can get them replaced you are not locked out. So to sum up, both have pros and cons, but for me, i think both are very good quality, and i would buy either one again, however even with the lack of ease of battery compartment access i would still probably lean towards the Schlage because of the feel of Quality. You do GET what you PAY for. best of luck in your decision. Edit: After one year i am altering my review and changing schalge to a 5 star. My kwikset crapped out on my and the replacement that they sent as a warranty replacement unit didn't even work on its arrival. The Schlage has been a champion. after 1 year of use, even with the battery compartment being on the outside, doesn't matter. haven't even had to change the battery once( in the winter where i live it is between -10 and 10 degrees F.) After my anger had subsided with my Kwikset unit, i bought the Schlage Deadbolt equivalent of it. I expect the same value and quality that i have received with this unit.

I Bought One, Loved It and Bought a 2nd One
I purchased this for my tool shed. I did not like having a key lock because I often go out to the shed without my keys in my pocket. The shed is on the back of my property which is not fenced, so it needs to be locked. I considered hiding a key, but that is not an optimal solution, both because others could find it and because the keys tend to rust. This lock solved the problem perfectly! It is outdoor rated and the keypad is lighted. The lock installs easily into a normal door hole without modification. NOTE: There are two "types" of this lock. 1. HAS a Lock-Out Override 1. Does NOT have a Lock-Out override Each has it's purpose. I bought one of each. The one without a lockout override is installed on my shed. I rarely use that shed and never want to forget to lock it. This one without the override will lock every time you close the door. Period. I like that for my purpose. The lock WITH the Lockout-Override is being used on the indoor garage door to my mud-room. Even though I try to remember to shut my garage door all the time, I hate leaving the indoor garage door unlocked all the time. Since I don't always carry my keys with me when I walk into the garage, it's a pain to used a keyed lock on that door. The Schlage keypad lock works perfectly for this situation. The one WITH the Lockout-Override is great because I can leave it unlocked for the kids to come and go or for when I am going back-and-forth between the garage and the house. But as soon as I disable the override, it will lock every time the door closes. Either type of Schlage keypad lock is strong, durable and attractive. With the lighted keypad they are easy to use in low-light situations. They work very easily and I've never had a problem with getting them to unlock on the first try every time. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Impressive with a few less than ideal "features"
I've used a bunch of these over the years. My Electronic Keyless Door Lock Set finally broke after 12 years (almost to the day). I would have repurchased the same lock, but it's no longer available. I tried the (less expensive) Buoan Electronic Keypad Door Knob , and it only took me a few hours to realize it was more trouble than it was worth. Then, based on reputation and reviews, I got this Schlage lock, and I'm happy I did. This lock is built like a tank. Installation was quick and easy. Best of all, using it is a snap. The buttons are large and brightly illuminated. Best of all, the lock operates smoothly. In fact, it operates silky-smoothly. And that includes both handles and the latch. As I mentioned, I used another "substantial" lock for a decade and then a budget version for a couple of days. This Schlage lock has them both beat, and the difference is amazing. Now, some things I didn't like so much... Other keypad locks I've used have the battery on the side of the door without the keypad, with a wire snaking through to the side with the keypad. This lock has its battery contained in the keypad. That means when the battery needs replacing, you must take the lock off the door completely. The good news is that the 9V battery is supposed to last for several years, and there is a clear indication of when you need to change the battery. Also, many of the electronic keypad locks made in the past several years allow you to provide external power from a USB battery for when the battery dies. Sadly, this lock hasn't caught up to that technology. The keys beep when you press them, and I wish the beeping sound was a bit louder. You can also disable the (barely audible) beeping if you like. The keys for other digital locks I've used will light when I press the first button of the combination. With this lock, I need to press the "Schlage" button first if I want the keys to light. However, Once they do light up, it makes for the easiest-to-read display I've seen. You can see an example in the photo I've included with this review. You are limited to four-digit entry codes. You can have up to 19 of them, but they all need to be four digits. After several unsuccessful code entries, the lock automatically disables itself for a few seconds. I would still be happier if it allowed at least a five-digit entry code to reduce the chances of someone figuring out the code.

Easy to install and works great
I have it on by back patio door. I had someone try and just walk into my home once while I was outside. This person was not in their right mind. Fortunately I was getting ready to leave and door was locked. However when home and running between inside and out I leave my doors unlocked. Now they are locked all the time. Some times I'd go to bed and forget to lock my door. Again nice. Last not least, not getting locked out. I have dead bolts to augment the door lock. If am home for night I use dead bolts, or leaving home for a period of time I lock dead bolts. These lockes help me make sure I am never unlocked. The code is easy to enter and get access to home. If you want door to stay open you can turn lock off, and leave in always open mode.

Didn’t work
Product was broken, rattling inside the lock, missing screws and the code worked but the latch was not opening and closing as described in the instructions. I kept wondering if it had something to do with the drop in price or maybe just bad luck…

Absolutely perfect for my side garage door!
I'll start with the most important thing -- make sure you always stick to companies like SCHLAGE or Kwikset because these two produce residential locks with ANSI and BHMA certifications (Grade 2 which is one certification closer to Commercial grading). Everything else Made in ... you see all over the Internet does NOT carry such certifications. It's very important if you're looking for a true safe lock. Make sure you buy this lock knowing that it's designed for certain type of applications which is a door that you want to me sure remains LOCKED when accessed from outside using the keypad but remains always UNLOCKED from inside the room/enclosure (the other side of the door). We have a breezeway which has a door opening into the garage. I wanted that door to be always locked but didn't want to use a "key" every time I needed to go inside the garage to get something. This lock is perfect for it. It keeps the door locked as it locks up automatically after only 5 seconds after using the keypad to unlock it. It's quiet. There's no "deadbolt" to move in and out. It only "click" quietly allowing the outside handle to open the lock, and it locks automatically after 5 seconds. The inside handle will always remain unlocked, which allows the user to open the door from inside without any issues, then close it behind them and not have to worry about it. It lights up. The buttons are perfect. Nice layout. Intuitive even when in complete darkness. You'll never fumble for the "light" button once you use the keypad once or twice. Easy to punch in the codes. Four digit codes. Very easy to program. You can only program the codes and the master code (the master code is needed to program the individual entire codes, so make sure if you change it from the default one, that you DO NOT misplace it or forget it somehow because you will not be able to program anything without it!). The 5 second automatic locking timer cannot be changed or paused. At least, at this point, this is what I think based on what I read and researched on the company's website. It doesn't bother me at all as I think, the type of application this lock was made for, having an auto locking timer is essential. Even if there was a way to change it, I wouldn't have done it. Super easy to install. Clear and concise instructions. Comes with everything you need. It covers every possible install situation (type of door, etc). It does include a 9V battery. Battery lasts a few good years (as per reviews and product instructions). Swapping the old battery out (when needed) will include taking the main (keypad) unit off and putting it back again, as in with first time installing the unit. Very simple thing to do, as they're only 2 long screws very easily accessed and easily dealt with. The entire unit is made of heavy duty metal. The only thing plastic is the individual keys on the keypad. Very sturdy unit. Beautiful design. Simple but very nicely thought out. Comes with a single key (which is nice, just in case something goes wrong with the electronics). It's not a re-keyable system but you can make more copies of that one included key (if needed). Overall, I'm very happy with it. Nice unit. The price was nice. I love the simplicity yet the sturdiness of it. A great purchase. Three year warranty and lifetime on the mechanical/finish.

Self lock is an excellent security option
Bought this for our daughter, who lives with roommates. We were concerned about roommates coming and going during the day/night and forgetting to lock the door behind them. We put this door handle/lock on both exterior doors and the consensus is that everyone LOVES them. Very easy to install...in addition, we also installed deadbolts on the doors for extra security. This is a great and inexpensive product for doors that you want to remain locked at all times.

No tienes que prestar tu llave.
Solo das una clave y luego la borras. Muy bueno. Más fácil de instalar y programar que otras marcas. Compraría otro sin dudarlo.

Top Quality!
Works perfectly! Would like to have been able to turn off the auto-lock when the door is closed. Time to unlock the door when you're only stepping outside for a moment is a little pain. But all in all a great install!

Solidly made, so easy to install.
Beautiful piece of mechanics. I was a bit trepidatious about installing - you know how these things can often go wrong. I myself was wrong - it was stupidly easy! Four Phillips head screws and bingo! I really didn't have to use the new latch that it came with which would have meant only two screws - but I did. Can't recommend it highly enough! Now, after over 3 years' use on an outside, exposed, door (one purchased earlier than this one) there are signs of corrosion on the stainless body and the soft keypads are showing some deterioration. I hope they do not become unreadable. Otherwise, no issues at all with either and I'd purchase again.
