Love it! Fairly quick installation and it works great!
I had a friend install this so I can't say exactly how easy it was, but Schlage has installation videos on their website and my friend was able to answer the one question he had by watching it. I think it took him about 30 minutes to install this and a few more minutes to install the handle lever below it (separate product). He is a bit of an expert in building maintenance and security and recommended that I get a keyless lock that controlled the deadbolt, not the door handle, because it's harder to break if you're using force. So, I needed to purchase a separate non-locking door handle. Of course, this one has an alarm that will go off if anyone tries that. There are actually three alarm settings you can use, but I chose the alarm that just goes off when someone uses force because my condo is in a multi-unit building and I didn't want my alarm going off unnecessarily. Once installed, it was easy enough to use the supplied six-digit programming code to add my own codes and adjust the settings of the lock. I also plan on getting a Z-wave hub so that I can add and monitor codes from my phone. I occasionally create codes for guests and maintenance/cleaning people so it will be nice to know that I can monitor their usage. I can also delete them after they are no longer needed. I have a few things stolen in the past and I'm fairly positive it was by people I know so this will give me the peace of mind of knowing who I can trust. It really sucks that I have to do this, but living in fear is not fun. Once I have the hub, I'll expand my review to let you know how well that works. Also, it may be a small thing, but I really appreciate that this came with batteries. Good ones, at that. This is not the type of installation where you can leave your house during the process to go get batteries, so that was very appreciated. One thing, it is a bit loud when it locks. But at least you know it's locked. If you have teenagers, they won't be sneaking in and out with this lock at your front door ;) I've only had this installed for a few days so I can't say how well it works over time, but I'll update my review if anything changes or becomes an issue. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Works great standalone or with Wink Hub 2
I've been using this lock for six months in a vacation rental home. I love it, and am thinking of buying a second one for the same home for redundancy (don't want a battery to die and a customer can't get in). I installed the lock myself. I'm a fairly handy guy, and was able to do the work with the help of a drill, driver and dremel tool. FYI, my prior deadbolt was installed really well, and this deadbolt liked where the previous one sat, so the installation almost went according to plan. Schlage has an extra set of lag bolts/screws for extra security, so plan accordingly. Also, there was a small step that I missed, and the lock initially wouldn't work. I had to re-read the instructions several times, and eventually found a step that I hadn't done correctly. My fault, so no ding to the rating. Programming the lock manually isn't too bad. Give yourself some time, and make sure you keep the instructions and the existing codes. I recommend you change the programming password. I recommend you take good notes. For five months, I manually added/deleted codes for my vacation rental guests, and everything has worked great. Its so easy to lock and unlock. About a month ago I installed a Wink Hub 2, and now I love this lock even more! I was able to easily pair this lock to it. All the existing codes did show up in the Wink app, but I couldn't see those codes. I was hoping to rename the codes. There is a way to wipe all the codes and re-enter new ones, so that's what I did. I recommend you store these codes in your notes elsewhere! Once I learned the Wink App, I'm now using it to see who accessed the door (guest, cleaner, my family, ect). I can see the activity in the wink app, and I'm fairly certain that my guest is checked out, I can then use my Wink Hub and other smart power plugs to turn off other devices in my vacation rental home to save power/gas! Update - Dec 8, 2018 The battery sensor in this lock is NOT accurate. I've been checking this lock's battery status with my Wink app. After six months of usage in a vacation rental home, the lock went offline. I checked the battery status a few days before it happened, and it was at 97% (and still was according to the Wink app). When I took the dead batteries out of the lock, I checked the batteries with a regular battery tester, and every battery was halfway in the red zone. Now I'm going to be very meticulous to test the batteries when I find that the battery level is below 100% in the Wink app. Since I'm using this lock with a Wink 2 hub, there could possibly be a problem with the integration w/ the Wink hubs (bad code/driver???). Once I changed the batteries, the lock came back online, and worked perfectly. I considered taking a star away, but it's been a great lock otherwise, and none of my vacation rental guests have complained about (its really easy to use).

Nice lock, works well, needs new batteries and close location to pair with Wink
I’m a bit OCD about making sure the door is locked before I leave home. My wife gets a good chuckle out of it, and is sometimes gets annoyed. What’s worse is getting somewhere and then worrying about whether or not you locked the door. Should you jump in your car to run back to check it? Are you just being paranoid? Can you enjoy whatever you’re doing without worry about your doors being unlocked? The Schlage Z-wave Camelot door lock eliminates those questions. The touch panel gives you a positive checkmark when the door locks, and if you’re out and about when you start worrying whether or not you’ve locked the door, just pull out your phone and check. If it’s not locked, simply slide it to the locked position and be assured that the command has been received and executed at home. The lock has a lot of great features. It can autolock after being open for 30 seconds. It has alarms for tamper and break-in with various sensitivity levels. You can use the open/close status in a Wink robot. You can assign different codes to different people. And you don’t have to worry about getting locked out of the house without your keys. Now, if only pairing with Wink were simple. In theory, it’s supposed to be. In reality, it can cause hours of frustration. If these tips had been spelled out, it would have been very helpful: - Move your Wink hub as close to the lock as possible when starting the pairing. I thought 10 feet line of sight would be fine, but it wasn’t. - Be sure you put brand new batteries in the lock when you start pairing. Don’t rely on the batteries that came with the lock, even if they’re brand new. I worked for a day and a half on one lock. It wouldn’t pair even with the Wink hub 18” from the lock. I finally used a DMM to check the battery voltage. It was 5.97, so I shrugged, thinking it was fine. Later, out of desperation, I decided to change the batteries. With new batteries, the voltage was 6.28, and the lock paired almost instantly. - The Schlage Z-wave relay doesn’t really improve the reception - The Wink app will often say it has paired with the lock, but the green checkmark on the lock doesn’t confirm the pairing. The Wink app is wrong—the lock isn’t paired. - Be sure to use the Z-wave exclude command to delete the lock upon an unsuccessful pairing. This came directly from the Wink help support line. They claimed the exclude feature is more complete at removing the prior failed pairing parameters. - When the lock finally successfully pairs, you may not see an accurate battery level indicator for many hours. This parameter took overnight to read correctly on both my locks. - When you are paired correctly, the locked status should show up in about 4-8 seconds in the Wink app after you’ve opened or closed the lock. Also, changing the lock’s settings, such as the security or number of digits for entry codes, should receive confirmation in the app within 10-20 seconds. - Note that you can’t run the locks through either the scheduler or robots, but you can include them in Wink shortcuts. Wink claims this is for security and safety consideration. - The activity report only shows when the lock has been opened with the Wink application, not when it’s been manually unlocked or when someone has entered with a code. This was quite surprising to me as it means there’s little point to the log. If you have a robot set up you will get a notification on your phone when the lock toggles, depending on what you request. Pros for the lock: - It’s easy to install. - No one has had problems learning how to enter their codes. - It seems quite sturdy and comes with a strike plate that certainly exceeded the security of my doorframe original equipment. - I think it looks great, though my wife thinks it makes the doors look like hotel doors. - The auto-lock feature wherein the lock shuts automatically in 30 seconds is appreciated. Just be sure your door is closed when the lock slams home. Now, some cons for the lock: - The lock only reports the deadbolt’s extended or retracted status. If the door is not closed, but the deadbolt is extended, the lock will say it’s closed. It would be great for the lock to actually sense whether it’s mated to the strike plate. - Using the button on the back to turn on and off the alarm or set the mode never worked very well for me. Maybe I just couldn’t get the hang of it from the instructions. The Wink app works much better to set the alarms. - The tamper alarm is very sensitive. I have the “bludgeon” (forced entry) mode activated. - The programming code for the lock is only 6 digits long, yet you can program in 8 digit entry codes. What’s the point of 8 digit entry codes when guessing the right programming code can get the burglar in the door? Come on, Schlage, the programming code should be 8 digits! - There’s a bit of a security risk since Wink could be hacked, but then again, it’s not hard to pick a lock if you know what you’re doing. Someone who really wants in will just break a window. All in all, I’m pleased with the locks. Update Sept 2015: My Wink hub was damaged by a transient caused by the power company and wouldn't connect to Wifi. There was no way to delete the existing devices from the old hub. Eventually, Wink deleted my account and let me start again with a new hub. I had to use the Z-wave Exclude function to delete this lock. You don't have to reset the lock to "factor condition." Just exclude the lock under the Hub's Z-wave commands, then use the inclusion mode to re-add. If you use the inclusion mode rather than the Add Lock command in the Wink app, you get Schlage specific options such as add users, set alarm types, etc. After initial protest, my wife loves the lock. It lets her get into the house without fumbling through her purse for her keys.

Here is how you fix this lock if it does not work on arrival.
I wanted to take a moment and talk about the lock but more importantly since many reviews exist I wanted to share my experience with installation. When I received my first lock it did not work. When the motor engaged the deadbolt never turned so I assumed I received a defective unit and as always amazon.com was right there to replace the item with no delay. Much to my surprise and a little dismay the second lock I received did exactly the same thing so I thought to myself....maybe I'm juts doing it wrong. So first of all the lock looks sleek and when it works its exceptional and if I hadn't had this issue on installation I would have given the device 5 stars, which I will give to their support people. I decided after my second lock and subsequent failure of said lock I'd call the install help hotline and I spoke to a very nice agent (Christi I think her name was) who when hearing the lock knew exactly what the issue was and how to fix it and told me if I didnt mind to do a few steps she'd have me working in 10 to 15 minutes. A promise she kept quite well I might add. So I'm here to share with you what was wrong and how to fix it if you receive one of these issues. The Problem: The Agent told me during the first production run of this lock or so they found that one of two items was simply not pressed into place well enough as it had been done my hand and is now done my machine. So either the circuit board or the motor underneath it (in my case it was the motor) were not tightly into position. Tools required for the fix: A simple fillips-head screw driver. A good thumb for pressing You time...about 15 minutes worth. The fix: I will put photos up in the product page (See Link Below) to go along with my fix instructions. http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B00AGK9KOG Start by laying the inside housing face up with the lock handle down and removing the batteries. Then remove the 3 screws (two on the bottom and one in the middle) . Once the screws are out the circuit board assembly as a unit easily comes out. Hold the circuit board assembly with the board facing up and from right to left gently push the 4 clips (see pictures as the fourth is in the middle and not along the bottom edge) and swing the circuit board like you would opening a door. You will not need to disconnect the wiring harness. Once done simple push the motor (seep pictures) with your finger and you will most likely here and feel it click into place. Take a moment to manual turn the motor until the center gear (with the notch) is in the correct horizontal position with the notch up (see pictures). Once complete reverse the process of dis-assembly by swinging the circuit board closed and pushing the clips in left to right. Ensure the board is securely installed. Re-install the unit in the metal housing ensuring the notch is also facing up (see pictures). Insert the screws and reattach the device to the door. A reset is recommended once you have completed this. To reset the lock simply hold the Schlage Logo on the keypad while reconnecting the battery pack. you will know the reset is complete when the unit flashes the green check-mark twice on the keypad as well as inside the red alarm button will flash. Now you are ready to use the lock and you won't need to return it. I hope this helps anyone who receives a lock with this issue.

Please read all of it,, its helpful
Hopefully schlage will contact me!! Batteries keep dying Installation took about an hour on an existing deadbolt. 5 stars on the ease and installation instructions Finish, appearance and fit 5 stars. Heavy quality, looks good fit existing holes perfectly Programming at the keypad 4 stars. Simple, instructions tell you where factory user codes and programming codes are and thru worked. Easy to add users, easy to turn on alarm function and other items. NOTE write down what function you change as there is no lookup of changed parameters you'd have to enter a function again and see if it was changed and in that case when you do it changes it back, if it wasn't the one you changed then you just changed it instead. Alarm features.. 2 stars.. It's easy to change and they do work BUT you can only have 1 of 4 options. Default no alarm sound, 2 beeps when door is opened, 3 alerts when tampered with and 4 alerts when heavy breaking in... You shouldn't have to change everytime you go to bed. I'd like an alert when family comes in BUT also the other alerts without changing to one of the other 2.. It was late when I installed but will test this some more and change review as needed. Phone app.. 0 stars. Documents and videos and internet searches reveals a lot of misconception.. This connect unit has NO native connection to an android phone app. It is NOT wifi or Bluetooth. So out of box it's a simple keypad entry with separate user codes and 1 key included. If you want to connect to Android you need a z wave hub and the corresponding app and then sync it with this lock. I've got a smartthings on its way. I was under impression that I could be home and unlock from phone sitting on couch but not in its native included form. I've got a lot of standalone wifi devices that do this but this one needs a hub. It doesn't connect to the SENSE APP. And there is no CONNECT APP. I'm guessing the sense version of this lock will do this BUT needs the wifi module to connect to a hub. Smartthings works ok, a little finicky. I don't have all the features on it, but I could if a restarted door and reset everything according to other people complaining of same. But for now, between Snartthings and ifttt its very good.. NOTE it's now 4/19 and batteries have expired and lock stopped working abruptly and without battery warning. Replaced batteries and again it says 100% and all is working so roughly 4+ months of high traffic use. NOTE AGAIN... DEAD BATTERIES AGAIN.. SOMETHING MUST BE WRONG

It just works
I had been looking for a keyless lock that I could connect to from my phone, and, after looking at the August locks, I decided to go with this one instead because the reviews indicated it was more reliable. In the 10 months I've had it, I have been entirely happy with the purchase and have encountered no problems operating the lock. Installation was fairly easy, and I had it all installed and working within an hour. On its own, it has been completely dependable--no malfunctions. While I do have the lock connected to a couple of different smart systems in my house, one thing I like about the lock is that it doesn't need to be connected to a smart home system to work: your key codes work as long as the unit has battery power (and it lets you know when you're getting low long before you actually run out of power), regardless of whether it's connected to your home system, and you can add and delete user codes right from the keypad. Given that a lot of smart home systems can be a little buggy, this makes me feel more confident that I'll always be able to get in and out of my house without needed to carry keys all the time. Shortly after I got this lock, I bought a Wink hub so that I could use the lock remotely, and that connection has been mostly stable: aside from a disastrous afternoon when I tried to switch the lock's connection from the Wink hub to an Almond+ router, the lock has only come disconnected from my hub once. Using Wink's smartphone app, I can add and delete user codes; I can see whether my door is locked or not; I can see an activity log of when it's been locked and unlocked and by whom; and I can create "robots" to notify me whenever a specific key code is used and to turn on the lights when people enter the house. While my Wink system sometimes struggles with my smart lights, it always works with this lock. The lock also works with Alexa, so I can ask Alexa whether the front door is locked when I'm in bed and forgot to check, and I can ask her to lock it if need be. Using Alexa and Wink, I can tell my home system that it's bedtime, and the lights will go out and the door will lock. It's all pretty convenient. Of all the elements of my smart home system, this Schlage lock has been hands-down my favorite and most dependable purchase. It has eliminated the need for me to carry a key every time I leave my house, it allows me to monitor who comes and goes to my home and when, and it allows me to give and revoke access to my home to anyone without giving out and taking back keys. I absolutely love it.

Solid Well Built Lock - Easy to Install and Program - Looks Great Too
Update March 2025 I am getting ready to buy another one of these locks to use on the house my son is renting from my ex wife, so I thought I would do a quick update for the one I purchased over seven years ago now - which is still operating flawlessly. I have codes setup for myself and both my children plus a backup/programming code that I keep in my my password file on my phone in case of emergencies and to reprogram the lock when necessary. I have replaced the four AA batteries two times since the lock was installed. The keypad shows zero signs of wear meaning you cannot see any wear pattern from pressing the pad to activate the lock. Even though the lock cost $50 more now, it's still worth the price in my mind. *************** I've waited to do this review until I have had some time to use the lock. I have had it installed since November 2017. I'm pretty handy so it was very easy to install. Although if you use the instructions it should be easy to install even for someone with basic handyman skills. The lock is very solid and well made and I suspect it will last a long time. The operation is very smooth. It's a little tricky to program, but not overly so. I know a lot of reviews mention the battery life. There are two main things that play into how long the batteries last. How well the dead bolt fits the opening in the frame and if you have it set to auto lock . To address the first point make sure the opening for the deadbolt is aligned properly during installation. Do not overlook this detail. The bolt needs to slide freely to prevent the lock from using more force, which requires more battery power, to move the bolt. Secondly, if you use the auto lock feature, the lock will operate about twice as often. The other issues with auto lock, and the reason I do not use it, is because if the door is left open and it locks, the deadbolt is left sticking out. So if you shut the door not realizing it's locked, the bolt hits the door frame which can damage the frame and over time I suspect the bolt as well. It would be much better if you could set the auto lock to function at a predetermined time to ensure it's locked before you retire for the evening. Not sure what that was not considered. I did not purchased a hub to use the software, but based on what I read, outside of being able to operate the door remotely, it does not do all that much. I would think you should be able to do some basic programming with the software like lock the door at a specific time of day or night. Doesn't seem worth the cost of a hub to me. Other than that, it's a great lock and looks good too.

Great lock, lots of useable features, perfect for a short term rental. Battery life is fine for me. ONE YEAR UPDATE: Still Good!
UPDATE AFTER A YEAR+ of using this lock. The lock occasionally lost contact with my Wink 2 hub (which was 1 floor up and about 10 feet away), so I bought a z-wave light switch for the porch light which is just next to the door. That seemed to do the trick. Z-wave devices create a mesh network so having a hard-wired device very close to the lock worked like a charm. The only thing that might be a complaint is that I don't trust the battery level info that this lock sends to the Wink Hub. Regardless of how long it's been in use it pretty much always says that the batteries are at around 60 to 75 percent. So as I mentioned I keep a bunch of high capacity rechargeable batteries on hand and I just swap them out every month or so. Thus far the batteries have never actually died on me. I love being able to easily add custom codes from anywhere. The Wink hub allows me to set a reminder when a code needs to be removed. I also really like getting info on when the door is locked and unlocked. That way I can quietly keep track of when guests arrive and check out so I can go clean the place. Overall my AirBnB guests like it (over 100 so far). I've only had one guest who couldn't figure out how to use the lock. Let's be honest, if you can't figure out how to type four numbers in a keypad you shouldn't be leaving the house in the first place... ---- So far so good. After reading other reviews my biggest worry was the excessive use of batteries. I bought high-capacity rechargeable batteries to power this lock. So far they haven't run out and it's been in use for four months. Last I checked they were at 54% (I'm not sure I trust that number so I'll be switching them soon, regardless). Note that I connect this lock to a Wink 2 hub that is one floor above and maybe 10 linear feet from the lock. I suspect that the battery drain has to do with the lock's proximity to the nearest z-wave hub, so I put the hub as close as possible to the lock. I use this lock at the private entrance for a short-term rental. I love being able to easily assign a private code to each new visitor. The Wink app allows me to put in a reminder to remove the code which is also a big help. I also like being able to remotely unlock the door. I haven't had to use that feature yet, but I like knowing it's there. The one thing I will mention regarding the install is that the bolt extends quite far, farther than my old Kwickset deadbolt. So I had to grab a drill and a hammer/chisel to make the hole a bit deeper. Otherwise the lock couldn't fully extend so it would close and then re-open. I also had to adjust the strike plate so it lined up exactly with the hole. The bolt was rubbing a tiny bit and that's bad, I had to absolutely ensure that it would operate without any resistance. Overall, not a big deal. That added about 20-30 minutes to the install time. I have yet to receive any reports of problems from visitors, and I've never had any issues when I've used it. Yes, it's expensive but for my purposes it's totally paid for itself several times over. If you run an AirBnB or VRBO, this is a priceless improvement.

Fantastic door lock, very solid and works perfectly
The first 'Smart' device I bought when moving into my new home. When I moved home, I obviously wanted to change the locks and (because I hate carrying keys!) wanted to get an electric lock. Z-Wave compatibility was essential because I planned to get a hub. Arrives in a sensible-sized package with everything needed. Was able to install 1st time on the door using existing holes. What I like - Very unobtrusive, and sleek looking - Numbers don't illuminate until you press the Schlage button, so the PIN-pad is a dark grey most of the time - The screws included for the strike plate were very long for a secure installation - Powerful motor - Clear instructions included - Many options to personalize (intrusion alarm, auto lock, beeps or without etc) - Effortless connection to Z-Wave hub - Efficient battery usage, I've changed batteries twice in 2 years - Works well will 3rd party device handlers for increased functionality What I dislike - The rear portion (the bit that goes inside) is quite bulky, but similar in size to competitors products If this device ever breaks, I will definitely be replacing it with an identical model. Be careful when picking colour online - I originally bought the Bright Chrome thinking it was the best match for my handle, but turns out it was actually Satin Nickel.
